Story 1: The same as the last 3 times. Mystique and iceman fight. Msytique throws bombs at iceman. Iceman ices Mystique. They both promise to finish it. God, and take away this wonderful dynamic story?

0/5

Story 2: Mercury by CB Cebulski
Mercury is depressed because she is a blob of metal. Which.. fair enough. Then some dudes attack them and she beats them down and x-23 tells her she is a hero! Which makes it all better.

2.5/5

Story 3: Brother gotta work it out.
Nightcrawler is in the Danger Room and he keeps getting beat by all the simulations becase he is distracted by missing Kitty. Then he programs a holo-kitty and gives her a hug. It's sweet.

3.5/5

Overall pretty MEH!

Kurt's story was the best of the bunch, the ending was perfect.
At least the writers understand that Nightcrawler has been under performing.

Mercury's story wasn't much of anything really, its just what we already know. She's ashamed of her powers to an extent. She has issues where she doesn't feel human (not needing to eat, being metal, etc). I wish it had handled her feelings on her current situation instead of a retread of her character.

Iceman's story is admittedly getting boring. It had promise, its just stretched out too far.

It's a shame that his final story before Raven kills him off next issue has been so anti-climactic. As one of the originals he deserved a better send off.

Nightcrawler
Iceman

Mercury.

Wow. for three separate stories, that seems a bit low.

Laura is nice and caring and talkative.

She is not talkative. She may be caring, but she doesn't express that because she doesn't know how. And nice? I'm not sure if that is the right word.

Yes I did read it. Many, many, many times. And I woudn't say she was a blabbermouth in it either. She is not that conversational in it imo and the only times she really says a lot is when she is giving out information like when she was talking her her classes or yelling back at the principal. The only time I can really see that she was more conversational was when she was talking Logan explaining why she had to kill them both. But still in that scene she wasn't what I would call a blabbermouth. Even when she was talking to Megan her sentences were short and to the point. Not chatty like in this story.

And I agree that she has a huge heart. But at the stage she is in right now, she can not adequately express to people that she cares.

I wouldn't call her chatty in this story. She was very to the point in what she said, and she really didn't say a lot. Cess did 90% of the talking, whereas when Laura spoke, she spoke very plainly and simply. She also wasn't overly expressing she cares, though she does and that was her motivation.

Iceman's story: I liked it. I love that she turned into Baby Mystique as an escape route. Adorable.

Mercury's story: I an uninterested in her character, but I like that they've made her so self loathing. It's a good spin for her character development. And I like the metaphor of the silly putty at the end.

Nightcrawler's story: I loved the visual effects for the Danger Room. They should use that always. I don't think he's a mascot, he's just experiencing a lull, and that's what this story's about.

When was he NOT experiencing a lull? Other than Excalibur, I mean. He's been dealing with these issues ever since he got back from there and every time he's gotten a confidence boost, he's been promptly knocked back down. There is never any progress made, they just won't resolve the issue.

I don't see any reason to think it will? It's not about Kurt, he's just one of many players. He's started off by being one-upped and stabbed by Pixie. Doesn't exactly bode well. They were gonna deal with this in his solo, too, way back when, and that led nowhere.
Somehow, being around the X-men is always like poison to Kurt's self-esteem.

i know everyone's got some issues with the story aspects of this issue, but what really ground my gear for this was (don't have the issue on me, as i'm at work) whomever did the art for the Nightcrawler story. His name looked Japanese. The borderline anime style just looks awful.

Yeah, I didn't like the Nightcrawler story much. I didn't really want an "aww, poor Nightcrawler" story. I mean really, why was he battling Apocalypse anyway. How stupid. I did like the danger room effect, but his appearance made look like a kupi doll or a BAMF doll. It was horrible. And I am so tired of Kitty Pryde we miss you BS. She's gone X-Men, deal with it. Nightcrawler and Colossus are two great characters and all the writers know to do with them is make them crying, weak idiots so that Pixie can be awesome. Lame-sauce with extra cheesy chunks on the side.

jarrod
12-05-2008, 10:52 AM
I dunno, I liked the missing Kitty aspect. It's barely been acknowledged to this point (especially versus Colossus, which we're getting beaten over the head with), I'm glad to see it on panel finally.

It was maybe a bit sappy, though not as bad as Peter's perpetual ennui or Emma's crybaby lapse. Personally, I think the best handling of "missing Kitty" anywhere has been done by Cornell for Wisdom in MI-13.

I love the Iceman story. still confused with Mystique. What I dont like is that I feel like im getting half a story. It feels like this whole mini is a bunch of one shots. Maybe it would have worked better like that. The chapters are just too short and it might have been much better in a full issue. Anyway its still good. I love iceman. This guys is in complete control of his powers and its brilliant. Mystique is impressive too. Psycho, but impressive.

The Nightcrawler Story was ok too but they are just all so short. The Mercury story was too, and also good. Especially since I love her and she is hot lol. Definately picking up the X- infernus trade.

I liked it. I only chime in when I like stuff.

-I love Baby Mystique.
-I thought the silly putty metaphor was wrapped up real well at the end
-I like the visual effects for the Danger Room. They should use that always. Also, Kurt isn't being a mascot. He's just having a lull period and that's what this story's about. Same with Boomer's and Karma's stories.

As for Iceman, I'm afraid the only thing that's making him interesting is Mystique's involvement with him.

The Nightcrawler story was okay, but the art - especially on the last couple of pages - made Kitty and Nightcrawler look like little kids.

I am entirely bored with the Mystique/Iceman story. Reading it, I couldn't even remember why she's trying to kill him, why he isn't with the X-Men, or why I'm meant to care. And my caring was so little that I haven't summoned up the energy to check the earlier issues.

Had to laugh at her "A-hah! The X-Men are in San Francisco!" moment though. She was all surprised and such, even though the X-Men are being entirely public and thirty seconds on Google could probably have given her their address. Tee hee.

Yay baby Mystique!

Michael Ryan should continue to draw my 2nd-tier favorite characters. When he pencils my ULTIMATE favorites like Princess Powerful and Wind Dancer he epically fails, but his Mystique is quite enjoyable.

Less Iceman, more Mystique please. I'm not enjoying him at all anymore.

Nightcrawler's story was enjoyable for what it was, but conceptually 'eh'. Still I've become infatuated with James Asmus' contributions that I'm prematurely putting up my "PUT JAMES ASMUS ON AN X-ONGOING" signs. I like his humor and this issue showcased his versatility. I have faith in this guy.

Mercury's story was silly putty. Cry me some bling!, girl.

And while I did love seeing Takeshi on art, I thought Adi Gravnov and Daniel Acuna was penciling this issue?!?!?!?
