Ceeeellllleeebrate Good Times, Come On! NYX #4 Discussion Thread

Didn't see one for it, so hey. :)

This was my first NYX issue. I bought this issue for one reason: the return of Cecilia Reyes.

And I wasn't disappointed.

The writer has a good grasp of her character, and obviously did some research. Her scenes are very reminiscent of X-Men 70, after OZT.

I'm glad she's still the same character, headstrong and opinionated. One thing did kinda irk me though. She phones Hank, and it didn't seem like this was their first contact since her 'death.' I would love to see Hank acknowledging her and them continuing their relationship, but I doubt that'll happen. Cece did have a nice photo of her and Hank though.

But what is with her artwork? Her having pop art pieces of Marvel panels looked a little strange.

As for the rest of the issue: it seemed decent enough. As I said, I haven't read the other 3 issues, so it was all new to me. To the writer's credit, I understood everything by the last page, not an easy feat these days.

I'm thrilled to have Cece back, and I hope she migrates over to one of the core X-books, even if its as a supporting role as Hank's girlfriend in Astonishing or something.

I don't buy it, but I appreciate that the artwork is really good, and for once, NYX is tasteful afaict.

So, since it was all unresolved will Cecelia be in NYX #5 as well? I hope so. I loved her appearance here and felt kind of bad when she called Beast. He knows she's out there and isn't helping her? FAIL HANK!

I just finished reading the issue. I gotta say I really enjoyed it. First NYX issue I've ever read. Always been interested in reading the series but I just never got a hold of it. I think I'm going to have to go back and get some of the past issue for this miniseries. All the characters seem cool so far. Got some unique powers. I like that little twist where every time that guy uses his power he losses part of his memory. I loved seeing Cecilia again! It's been too long since she had a prominent role in a comic. Oh and they spelled her name "Cecelia" but I'll let that one slide hehe. Cecilia still had that attitude she is known for. When it came to taking care of that girl who got shot (I think she got shot? Didn't read the the last issue but anywho) she didn't kid around and was bossing people around her just like she did in X-men 70. At the same time she comforted that girl as well. They made no mention if Cecilia still has her powers. I sure hope that she does. Cecilia and Kinden seem to have the same type of personality. It was interesting to see them interact. I can imagine they'd be snapping back and forth at each other if they stayed in a room for too long lol. Cecilia looked good when she went out and made that phone call to Hank. I gotta get a pic of that. That was my favorite scene in the issue. I thought it was going to end in a cliff hanger and Cecilia was going to have to help out Kinden (sp?) when that sniper woman showed up but she left before anything crazy could happen. The kids are still staying in Cecilia's apartment at the end of the issue so I'm hoping that Cecilia sticks around for the remaining two issue. Hey, the more Cecilia the better. As long as she doesn't get killed off or anything. Would be cool if she gets to have a little bit of action as well (then we'll known for sure if she still has her powers). Good issue overall.

The fact that she was as cocky as she was with Kiden and Tatiana, knowing that they're likely mutants leads me to think she is. If not, she sure talks tough for a depowered mutant.

That was my first thought too. But really, I think she's always been a headstrong character, and I don't know if losing her power would have changed that. Considering she was never too thrilled with having powers, losing them may have even increased her attitude problem.

But yeah, gut feeling is that she is still powered. And I'm really hoping there's more to this. I'd love to see some revelations about Hank having been secretly seeing Cece while she was presumed dead. Maybe a retcon into Endangered Species of a scene with her.

It is a really great read so far. Uncanny and Astonishing could learn something.
