Theres something i need to get off my chest about batman in this story.
I know "Wonder Woman: The Hiketeia" has been around for ages, but does'nt anyone think its really weird that a Genius-level crime fighter like batman would be stupid enough to throw a punch at a powerful person like Wonder woman. I mean you'd think he'd come up with a more clever way to attack her. He would'nt exactly throw a straight punch at superman, would he?
Does anyone think it's just bad writing from greg rucka? :evilangry:

I think Batman was just trying to be a jerk. That was his main characteristic in those days

Excellent point. I'm not a huge Wonder Woman fan, but that was a pretty well-written story overall.

Yeah, i have to admit greg rucka does write female characters brillently. But he does tend to (sometimes) make male characters looks like pussys in comparision.
He must have a thing for strong women! (as do i and any real man should!! )

You know I actually think I can shed some light on that one.
The way I always read that scene it was Batman taking a gambit that Wonder Woman wouldn't fight him back.
They've often had a romantic tingle, they're also good friends and co-workers on the JLA. He trusted that she, being as strong as she is, wouldn't willingly engage someone she could so easily crush into a cube.
It's the Superman gambit. Supes never likes to use his full power because he knows he could easily kill almost anyone else. Batman hoped that same ploy would work on Wondy, unfortunately for Bats, Wonder Woman's a warrior, not a Kansas farm boy so she had no hesitation in punting our favorite vigilante off a balcony.
I personally always just chalked that one up to to Batman's over-confidence that he so often seemed to display at that period. He was "The god damn Batman" no one would be bold enough to face him head on! .... Even if the person is a super powered demi-goddess who's sworn to defend the woman he's trying to capture.

Yeah, Bats took a bet and lost badly.

Yeah, Bats took a bet and lost badly.
True, but at the same time... There aren't a lot of mortals who are actually aware of Wonder woman's strength and would still be willing to try and fight her. Taking a gamble like that takes some nads as steel-worthy as Supermans.
Wasn't that the scene depicted on the cover? He probably got what he was hoping for.

to me, the cover seemed to be a reference to WW's origins in S&M.
Honestly and sadly, I remember that more than the story, but I'll pull it out and reread it again soon, maybe tonight.

I picked this up in a store and discovered I couldn't get more than ten pages into it because of the art. which is unfortunate, after everything I've heard it sounds okay

I don't have a problem with the art, but I've never quite understood why people seem to rate J G Jones quite so highly

I always liked the art alto myself. Never got what some peoples problem with it is. Anyoen that does have a problem with it, enlighten me as to why?
Being an artist myself, I like to hear what some folks dislike about a style I do like.

I don't know. maybe i suppose. But its still unrealistic for a guy whos to supposed to be the most smartest guy in the JLA, you'd think he'd be more tacitcal. i think rucka made a mistake.
Thats just my opinion, please don't flame me!!

He took a swing at superman as well
in the superman Book that the writer of 100 bullets wrote. Not MAN OF STEAL but the other one.

No one is going to (or atleast no one SHOULD) flame you for your opinion.
But remember, this was written back when BAtman was "The Bat-Dick" and he'd become unpopular among team mates just because he was always being a pain in the keister and because he took gambles.
That's what I think he did here, he took a gamble.
It actually wasn't the first, nor last, time that he gambled on the idea that a super-powered team mate wouldn't be willing to fight the powerless human they knew they might seriously injure.

The 52 covers where brilliant, but his interior work has always been hit or miss.

Batman has sparred with Wondy in past so I'm thinking he doesn't give her chin the same respect he gives his boyfriend, Supes.
