Have comics always come out on Wednesday?

i remember years ago in the early 90s that my LCS would have new issues on fridays. was it just this store doing this or did new issues arrive on the shelves every friday? if the latter, when did they begin arriving on wed?

I used to work in a comic store back in the mid to late 80s and the comics came out on Fridays then. The switch to Wednesdays happened after I stopped working there but I think the change to Wednesdays occurred around the time that Diamond became the primary/only distributor of comics although I don't know offhand when that was.

Good question. I was trying to remember the other day when the new comics used to hit the drugstores and 'confectionaries' where I used to buy them as a kid in the 70s. I know I had some idea back then of when to have a look for the new Tomb of Dracula or whatever, but can't recall which day of the week it was.

Back about 16-17 years ago we got books on Monday and Wednesday
that was fun

I actually have an answer to this.

They used to come out on Fridays. At a Diamond Retailer's Seminar, I met the now-dearly-missed Carol Kalish, sales manager for Marvel Comics. She said in conversation that she was trying to get them (Diamond/Capital City) to change the ship date to Wednesdays. The theory was that people would then spend money for their "fix" on Wednesdays, then come *back* on the weekend and spend additional money, since they'd already had their "fix" and now they had all this free time. The changeover happened within a year of her death.

I hadn't thought of this for years! Thanks for reminding me. (Carol was a really wonderful lady.)
