View Full Version : D is for December 2008! The Super Duper D-List Month thread!

Welcome to the D-List celebration!
D-List is defined as something “something below all others”. We’re here this month to prove to you that just because they aren’t well known doesn’t mean they aren’t worth knowing. This thread is primarily a celebration, so please keep that in mind (ie leave the hate at home folks). That said, it’s also an educational thread. Come and learn about characters you’ve never heard of. Come and learn more about characters you’d only seen previously as “Throw Away” characters. There is simply no such thing and if you catch up on these characters you’ll see why. We love these characters and hope that you'll come to love them too.
Each day will be an opportunity to see a spotlight shown on the folks that never got their shot. Bios will be posted every day in the month of December. Sometimes two a day! At the end of the month, we'll post a companion thread in which you can post about your own D-List favorites.
So sit back and stay tuned folks, hold on to your hats/panties! December 2008 is a month that will surely knock your fan-boy/fan-girl socks off!
Brought to you by the D-List Cadre of Nyssane, La Fea, Dagger, & Jack Flash (among possible others!)

#1 Arclight
Real Name: Philippa Sontag
First appearance: Uncanny X-Men #210
Most recent appearance: X-Force #9
Powers: Arclight has the ability to generate seismic bursts with her fists, which she more often than not uses to create shockwaves and tremors by punching the ground, the impact of which creates a blinding light. She also has a degree of superhuman strength.
Status: Cloneable.
Creator: Chris Claremont.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/5586/572322-ar1_super.jpg
Bio:
A Vietnam War veteran, Arclight was recruited by Gambit into the Marauders. Their first mission placed the Marauders in the Morlock Tunnels, where they slaughtered hundreds of mutants under the command of Mr. Sinister. Arclight’s abilities were especially devastating in the tunnels, where she created shockwaves to destroy the walls in the surrounding area. When the X-Men came to defend the Morlocks, Arclight, with her teammates Scrambler and Prism, battled the original X-Factor. Her allies defeated, Arclight grabbed Scrambler and fled. She also battled Power Pack around this time.
After the Mutant Massacre, Arclight joined her teammates in battling the X-Men on two more occasions, both resulting in their defeat. As Inferno begins, Arclight was given a makeover, adopting a much more masculine look. She briefly battled Psylocke, who had tricked Scrambler into defeating her.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/ursula_boi/Comic%20Book%20Stuff/Arclight1.jpg
Arclight and her fellow Marauder Vertigo were then invited to join Superia’s Femizons, a group of female terrorists. They accepted, and battled Captain America and Paladin. After Superia’s defeat, Arclight reunited with the Marauders. Around this time, she began a romantic relationship with Scalphunter, the field commander. The Marauders were ordered by Sinister to capture Threnody, who had escaped from him. While searching for the girl, the Marauders encountered X-Man, who killed all of them except Riptide.
Fortunately for Arclight, the cloning of Sinister allows her to be reborn, with her mind and memories from moments before her death completely intact. After being cloned, Arclight once again sought out Threnody, and succeeded with her teammates. She cruelly enjoyed taunting the girl, telling her that nobody escapes from Mr. Sinister. Later, Arclight, disguised as an Emissary of En Sabah Nur, also participated in a mission to capture Cable, though it failed.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/ursula_boi/Comic%20Book%20Stuff/ArclightMan.jpg
After the events of M-Day, Arclight was one of the few mutants who retained her powers. She, along with Scalphunter, took shelter at the X-Mansion as members of the so-called 198. She later rejoined the Marauders, who had merged with the Acolytes and several former X-Men. It was suggested that she had destroyed the Wohnhaus Strucker with her shockwaves. She also participated in the battle against the X-Men, beating Beast. After the X-Men were defeated, Arclight destroyed the building with a tremor, trapping them inside. During final battle in Messiah CompleX, Arclight had a chunk of her neck ripped out by Wolfsbane. It is unknown if she survived.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/ursula_boi/Comic%20Book%20Stuff/Arclight2.jpg
Most recently, clones of Arclight have battled the members of X-Force, along with clones of other Marauders.
Did You Know?: Arclight was featured in both Age of Apocalypse and Wolverine and the X-Men as a male character. What could that be saying about the 616 version? The earliest transgender X-Villain~~~?

Arclight's a great way to start this D-List, with a girl who's just plain hard & mean.
The romantic relationship with Scalphunter is one of those things I wish I didn't know about. Man... I really can't decide who wore the pants in that union.
But the sadistic glee when she's tearing up the Morlocks Tunnels and menacing Threnody are absolutely the makings of a great villainess. Especially the latter. She almost seemed to hate Threnody for trying to do what she likely can't... escape Sinister.

Seriously now, you've been here long enough.
But heres the thing no one really cares to hear you two gush about your feelings for a character who really isn't D-List especially when we have a New X-Men Discussion thread where this conversation could take place.
Apperantly you don't understand the purpose of this thread...

I think a qualification list is in order to let people know what a d-lister is.
So far, having a series or a mini will automatically disqualify someone as a d-lister.
I believe being an active member on any of the primary X-Men teams and off-shot teams also disqualifies the character.
What else?

D-Listers are characters that only have a handful appearances and aren't recognized by the general public. Cho'd would definitely qualify as a D-Lister. Gambit has had his own series and has been an X-Man for years. Rachel Grey, as well. The only X-Men who might qualify as D-Listers are ones like Maggott or Cecilia Reyes. Other "D-List" characters are the background students of New X-Men; members of the majority of villain groups (MLF members, Marauders members, Acolytes (with the exceptions of Exodus, Frenzy, and Voght); and characters who generally don't have a lot of backstory to them.
The majority of X-Men members would qualify under A-List or B-List. A few would be C-List, such as Karma or Chamber.

#2 Bling!
Real Name: Roxanne “Roxy” Washington
First appearance: X-Men #171
Last appearance: Arguably Weapon X #5
Powers: Bling! has diamond skin which grants her increased durability. She also has the ability to expel diamond shards at a high velocity. She also is a great dancer!
Status: Highly Fashionable.
Creator: Peter Milligan
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/77/80261-57274-bling_super.jpg
Bio:
Roxy is the daughter of highly prominent hip hop artists Roy "Daddy Libido" Washington and Angel "Sexy Mutha" Depres. Being part of hip hop royalty, Roxy was in rap videos at a young age, imagine her as a young Beyonce in waiting. Instead, she turned the tables on destiny and signed up with Xavier’s school for the Gifted and Talented. She was a member of Gambit’s squad alongside Onyxx, Rainboy, and Flubber. She excelled both in training and in her studies and all was well for the Hip Hop Princess, until a new student showed up and turned her world upside down. She was intrigued by this new attractive femme fatale named Foxx. She found herself in lust with this new squad member and disturbed by the brewing relationship between her mentor, Gambit, and her secret crush. Roxy was never able to put the moves on Foxx, as she turned out to be Mystique in disguise. It’s unknown if Roxy is a lesbian or if she is simply, following in the path of all the great X-Women, a bisexual.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/77/132740-36649-bling_super.jpg
After M-Day, which saw most of her squad depowered, Bling! retained her mutation. She pitched in to help out the X-men against the sentinels and against Apocalypse. Using her powers and her fantastic persona to aid the school she loved, she was successful as a mutant under the X-Umbrella, but did mention to her pal Surge, that she was not comfortable going on missions. She suffered from anxiety and even considered leaving the X-school along with her teammate Onyxx. It’s not known how much of an impact Gambit’s betrayal of the squad had to do with her doubts.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/1/11768/349660-46195-bling_super.JPG
She’s not been seen since the X-Men moved to San Francisco, but I am sure it’s only a matter of time before the X-men’s R&B princess makes her debut in the Queer Capitol.
Did you know?: Roxy being the daughter of two mega-stars was constantly threatened with kidnappings and assassination attempts growing up. No wonder she left the Emminem and 50 cent’s behind for Wolverines and Cyclops.

It was ludicrous that they paired her with him. I can't even imagine an appropriate teacher for her. Emma is too into Neo-Classicism (and classism) to really teach Bling! and Beast is too boring to teach her. She needs a real post-modern intellectual. Perhaps Sage?

Real Name: Unrevealed
First appearance: X-Factor #80
Most recent appearance: X-Factor #81

Status: Inactive.
Creator: Peter David.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/ursula_boi/Comic%20Book%20Stuff/Briquette1.jpg
Bio:
A member of the Hell’s Belles, Briquette was hired by Cyber as an extortionist to work for a notorious drug cartel. After her teammate Shrew quit the group and threatened to testify against them, Briquette and the Belles tracked her down to the offices of X-Factor, who were ordered by the government to protect her.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/ursula_boi/Comic%20Book%20Stuff/Briquette2.jpg
At a hotel in Virginia, Briquette and her associate Tremolo ambushed X-Factor. During the battle, Briquette and Strong Guy fell through the floor into the boiler room. Cyber appeared and pricked Strong Guy with a poisonous claw. Briquette watched and taunted Strong Guy as he and Cyber battled. However, Strong Guy attempted to warn her that she was too close to the boiler, heating it up. Realizing this, Briquette and Cyber made a swift escape, leaving Strong Guy to take the brunt of the blast.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/ursula_boi/Comic%20Book%20Stuff/Briquette3.jpg
Later, at the subway station, X-Factor tracked down the Hell’s Belles. Multiple Man, wearing an insulated costume, immediately swarmed Briquette and Vague. She was able to hold her own, and then captured Quicksilver after he defeated Tremolo. Burning him with her skin, Briquette was inevitably defeated by Strong Guy. Briquette, along with the rest of the Belles, was placed into custody.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/ursula_boi/Comic%20Book%20Stuff/Briquette4.jpg

#4 Bulwark
Real Name: Oswald Boeglin
First appearance: Generation X #11
Last appearance: Arguably Weapon X #5
Powers: Bulwark has the ability to expand his muscle mass to unknown capacity. His added strength would also add to his strength, durability, and resistance to injury accordingly
Status: Arguably deceased.
Creator: Scott Lobdell
http://www.comicbookdb.com/graphics/comic_graphics/3612_20070818184717_char.jpg
Bio:
Not a huge amount is known about Oswald Boeglin. He was a German mutant. He was a member of Emplate’s “Hellions” team. He was recruited/captured to be the team’s strong man. His powers are VERY similar to Gentle’s. He even had the restraining bands, in fashionable red, way before the Wakandan did. Bulwark fought Skin and totally beat hin down and captured him. He then went toe to toe with M and got sucker punched by her magnificence. He was eventually beaten by a Leech/M combo and fled with Vincente once his muscle mass atrophied by Leech’s powers. He was next seen as a captive of the Weapon X program and was seen in a line of muties on their way to the Gas Chamber. He was not seen dying and there was no body shown, so he’s totally alive (and fully powered) and drinking lager in a pub in the German city of Bern.
Gentle owes much to the awsomeness of Bulwark.

#5 Cece Reyes
Real Name: Cecilia Reyes
First appearance: X-Men(vol. 2) #65
Most recent appearance: NYX #4
Powers: Cecilia has a lifeforce generated forcefield that can be used for both offensive and defensive powers.
Status: Rockin' it, 'Rican Style!!!
Creator: Scott Lobdell and Carlos Pacheco
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/1953/90873-175385-cecilia-reyes_large.jpg
Bio:
As a young girl, she saw her daddy get shot in front of her, and by daddy I mean her pimp, and unable to keep the pimp's blood from spillin' everywhere, she decides 'Hey! I'm a poor, young minority! I'm going to become a doctor! Madre Dios!' Anywhoo...fast forward Imma say 20 years later, we see a young Cecilia, originally w/o braids getting ready to go in for surgery, but has time to discuss the Omega Sentinels havin' time to deal with the mutant menace. Back in the old days, they'd have called her an uncle tom, or aunt jemimah, but whatevs. She's still a fierce betch.
Anyway, next we see her, she is hangin' out, chillin' wit' her peeps (WITH BRAIDS!!!) out in some rundown hospital in Brooklyn, when a white youth comes in with multiple gunshot wounds, and she get's all defibrilator-y with him. She turns around, cause there's nothing else she can do for him, when all of a sudden, he gets up all crazy like, and starts shooting. OUT OF HIS CRAZY OMEGA SENTINELS HAND!!! Well, bingo-blammo, her psioplasmic shield kicks into high gear, and she's all 'GAH! I CAN'T TURN IT OFF, SO STFU ABOUT ME TURNING IT OFF!!!' They get her cornered and are about to blast her head off, when doot da doo doo! Iceman comes to her rescue! After he rescues her, she hits him with a bed pan or something, and they go rocketing down a hole in the ground.
Hanging out in Soho at Warr's place, they get attacked by Candy Southern's old bff from way back, but now she's an O.S. too. They make it out, because Detective Jones is like a major Warr stalker. Once you have angsty blue man with wings you never can go back I guess. Taking them to a precinct, they get attacked YET AGAIN, but are saved by Marrow of all people. Joining up with super fierce betch Sabra, and Marrow they attack Bastion at his home. Getting saved by Shield at the last minute all lame-o like, they go to join the X-Men.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/6754/242778-92530-cecilia-reyes_super.jpg
Arriving at the X-Mansion, they realize they forgot to pay Rent-A-Center, and they came and repo'd all their sh!t, running out, cause she's p-o'd they don't have HBO anymore, the other x-men come flying out of the sky. Helping to take a bomb out of Cyclops stomach, why they didn't just use Bean-o is beyond me, she decides to crash at the X-Men's.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/3848/126489-166108-cecilia-reyes_super.jpg
One week later, she decides to go to back to work, where she gets treated like a leper, and accidentally lets Pyro free and helps DD out for free. Getting fired, she goes back to the X-Men, where she accidentally flirts with the boring Beast and wearing one of the Wasp's old costumes, which is very LOL worthy, in a story about some slaves of the N'Garai.
Leaving the X-Men shortly after, we next see her becoming a drug addict in the most O.O.C. moment of her career(thanks CC) where she's trading B.J.'s for some more RAVE (nnce nnce nnnce nce nnnce). Kicking the habit, she tries to save Colossus after he kills himself saving the mutant race from the Legacy Virus, she later gets picked up by Weapon X, and is put in the Neverland Camp, hanging out with Michael Jackson. She goes into hiding after that, cause I would too, and we see her hanging out with X-23's old pals, the NYX kids.

#6 Clear-Cut
Real Name: unknown
First appearance: X-Force #62
Last appearance: Civil War: Battle Damage Report
Powers: Clear-Cut is a swordsman with the ability to materialize bladed weapons in his hands!
Status: Hero for Hire baby!
Creator: John Francis Moore
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/9345/400114-84696-clear-cut_super.jpg
Bio:
Clear-Cut burst onto the scene in X-Force as a hired gun, or sword, for Shinobi Shaw’s version of the Hell Fire Club. He was Shinobi’s personal assassin, but quickly betrayed his boss to aid the X-Forcers against the HFC. He claimed to not be a mutant, but his power source remained a mystery. During the course of the battle, Mindmeld took over his body and captured him. He was placed into a Dr. Graves experimental machine, but eventually freed. His reason for betraying his paycheck was due to a historical debt owed to the great daddy archetype known as Cable.

The Cecilia-centric issue with Daredevil (he goes to her instead of the Night Nurse! Scandalous!) and Pyro is one of Lobdell's best.

#7 Darkstar
Real Name: Laynia Petrovna
First appearance: Champions #7
Most recent appearance: New X-Men #130
Powers: Laynia has Darkforce manipulation Flight Teleportation Concussive blasts Ability to create solid constructs composed of Darkforce energy.
Status: D for Deceased
Creator: Tony Isabella and George Tuska
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/3329/109788-99611-darkstar_super.jpg
Bio:
Darkstar got her start as a special ops for the Soviet Gov't to bring that traitorious bitch the Black Widow back for service to her country and it set her against her future teammates, the Champions. She was close to setting up a relationship with Iceman, but she liked him more as a friend(hmmm...maybe she suspected that he's a big mo and she's a moho???)
She later rejoined her former soviets, including her brother Vanguard and a fifth Crimson Dynamo, where she fought Iron Man and Jack of Hearts on the moon. They decided to do that team-up thing that comics are so well known for, and battle some renegade Rigallians.
They returned to Russia, with love, only to get to manipulated by some Professor Phobos to search for and capture the Presence and Starlight. They went lookin' for trouble with Ursa Major in tow, when they found out in a very Star Wars way, that the Presence and Starlight were their (Darkstar and Vanguard) parents. ZOMG!
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/77/77441-183751-darkstar_super.jpg
She went around the world, searching for battle, picking up the Gremlin, battlin' with Rom and Starshine against the Dire Wraiths and joining up with a bunch of other heroes in a Contest of Champions where she represented mother Russia.
A few years later, she's sent with the rest of the Soviet Super Soldiers to bring in Mags to justice for sinking a ship and fought against the Avengers, but stopped suddenly when they found out they were being manipulated by the Crimson Dynamo.(wow, that happens alot for her)
Seeking political asylum at Avengers Island, they get beat up by some disquised Supreme Soviets, and create a demon bear like Dani Moonstar's parents and tries killing the Soviets. The Demon Bear gets talked down by Cap, and returned to Russia with a guy called Blind Faith, who they then joined a band called the Exiles. Not to be confused with that shit title that is currently being published.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/3329/109789-155828-darkstar_super.jpg
A few years later, she joins up with the X-Men where she get's blown away by a gun after being possessed by one of the Weapon Plus weapons. Thanks a lot Grant Morrison!

#8 Emplate
Real Name: Marius St. Croix
First appearance: Generation X #1
Last appearance: Generation X #58
Powers: Marius is gifted with Interdimensional travel, Fanged mouths in the palms of hands, Ability to see and "read" mutant auras, Invisibility, Ability to duplicate a mutant's abilities once he has sampled their marrow, Able to transform others into beings like himself, knowledge at a glance
Status: Becoming anorexic!
Creator: Scott Lobdell and Chris Bachalo(I wanna have sex with both of them for creating him and Gen. X)
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/77/78418-184057-emplate_super.jpg
Bio: Upon his first appearance, we see a Emplate contemplating why a certain Mr. Jonothan Evan Starsmore would be coming to America, and belittling his side-man, D.O.A.(lol) where he slips in between this dimension and another, where he can walk amongst the chattle undisturbed. Spotting his latest victim, he heads towards Jono, unknowing that he had accepted admission to the new Xaviers School for Gifted Youngsters over at the Massachusetts Academy, as he begins to absorb Jono's marrow and powers, it fully shunts him into this dimension where he goes into battle with Banshee, Synch and Jubilee.
He seems to be holding his own, until Jono breaks free of his control, and M gets the drop on him. Deciding he's a villain, and isn't ready to fight all of Generation X at once, he decides to fade away, and go home and get some leftovers. Lo and behold, his afternoon snack, aka Penance, aka Hollow, has decided to flee with that scoundrel Gateway.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/5648/306556-153814-emplate_super.jpg
Rounding up a new set of Hellions including Murmur I, Bulwurk, Vincente, DOA and Gayle Edgerton, he went after Gen. X again, and transformed Synch into a creature much like himself. We also got the top ten reasons why Emplate sucks, as spoken by Jubilee. Why can't we get Gen. X jubes back? Oh well.
He attacked the kids again, but this time, M was split into twins, and they merged with Marius into making M-Plate, making them all more powerful than they were before. They end up getting into a mess trying to create a weapon out of people's consciousnesses, called a godhead, and the kids accidentally release Gaia, who was supposed to be stuck there, but I guess isn't anymore and she joins Gen. X.
Splitting from Marius, the M twins get the real Monet out of Penance and take her place as the resident soul in there.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/1/10069/457896-emplate_01_super.jpg
Attempting once again to capture Penance, he comes back with a new set of Hellions, this time consisting of Wrap(kinda like Murmur), Vincente, Ebon and DOA. He got knocked out by Jubilee when she blew up Proudstar hall, and the M-twins got knocked free from Penance. His current whereabouts, and status are unknown at this point. He probably joined Jenny Craig and is a slim size 2 at this point.

#10 Fixx
Real Name: Unknown AKA Jane Doe
First appearance: X-Factor #140
Most recent appearance: X-Factor #149!
Powers: Fixx can manifest psionic sprites from her mind as small fairy shaped psychic projections that channel her powerful telepathic and psychokinetic abilities. She’s got the ability of Telepathy, Telekinesis, Advanced Psychokinesis, Mental Chrono-Skipping (We’re making stuff up here), and metamorph capabilities (Very limited).
Status: M.I.A. (Not the fantastic singer unfortunately)
Creator: Howard Mackie and Duncan Rouleau (Who is an Art God.)
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/5648/285164-42931-fixx_large.jpg
Bio:
The femme fatale known as Fixx is largely a mystery. She originates from the future timeline that Bishop and his hologram sister Shard came from. She helped out in the Summers Rebellion that overthrew the Sentinel baddies and saved the future! I am sure that her and Ruby were totally BFFs! After saving the future, she was a leader in the XSE (Xavier’s Security Enforcers). She eventually grew frustrated with their methods and lack of direction. Tired of what she saw as the corruption of Xavier’s dream, she with a mysterious stranger named Genesis (who looked like Forge!) formed the XUE (Xavier’s Underground Enforcers) and recruited the help of her two guy pals (Archer and Greystone). They came up with a convoluted plan to return to the past and save the future from happening by fixing the “Past/Present”. Novel idea that NOBODY has ever tried in comics, I know. She was a visionary, what can I say. The plan was that she’d lock onto Shard’s mind (They were close before she’d died) and with the use of her fantastical Psionic fairies, traverse space and time to “merge” with Shard’s Holographic body. That doesn’t really make sense, I know, but it backfired anyhow. Somehow Archer, Greystone, and Fixx all ended up being transported to the Present 616 Marvel universe and taking the place of some recent terrorism victims bringing them back to life.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/6179/140788-32439-fixx_super.jpg
Fixx possessed a girl (Jane Doe) who suffered from Amnesia, lost a portion of her powers due to her host body’s brain injuries. She’d be an uber powerful Psi of the Focused Totallity type, without the limitations imposed on her by the body swap with dead Jane Doe.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/77/149619-145167-fixx_super.jpg
Eventually the 3 time lost companions pulled themselves together and sought out Shard, who was hanging with X-Factor at the time. After an obligatory fight between the XUE trio and X-Factor they decided to team up and merge the teams to fulfill the XUE secret mission. Archer left the team fairly quickly to go his own way and Greystone got a huge case of the time displaced crazies and died, leaving just the Lady Fixx on the X-Factor squad. She served with them until their book was cancelled and has not been seen since. Which we are all lesser for not having a monthly “Fix” of Psionic Fairies.

DARKSTAR!
I may be a fan of Darkstar, just a little. I'm glad to see she shares my disdain for Iceman.
Grant Morrison makes few mistakes, but when he accidentally mixed up Darkstar and Fantomex in his script for New X-Men (Darkstar was meant to be the one to shoot Fantomex right in the middle of his big stupid France-loving head, not the other way round) I was devastated. What kind of fool likes France anyway? Grant Morrison needs to stop killing women so often.
She may not have appeared as often as should've been, but the new series "Darkstar: First Class" should make up for that. Scratch that idea! How about she appears in X-Men Legacy instead (before the Rogue arc starts, naturally). If Professor X has anyone to apologise to, it's Laynia. Somebody call Mike Carey for me.

that's definitely bachalo. it's one of the last issues he did for gen x, and was....going through a phase.
GTFO about emplate, JAU.
Oh all right, lol. Sorry, just seemed a little too cutesy for Bachalo. Cutesy but good, mind you.
He's just nervous about Marrow Sucking. His morals don't allow for that kind of thing.
Hahaha. XD

Not that there are many of those, mind you.

(one would hope)
It reminds me of something from Doctor Who.

It was an implant a person could put into their head so that they could have information fed directly in their brain and then broadcast it to others.
I hated that episode! But yeah, reminds me a little of that.

Time for me to get caught up:
Darkstar:
Possibly the most universally disapproved of choices of Grant Morrison's run. Xorneto, and the retcon that came from it, there's debate. "Kick", there's debate. U-Men, Fantomex, Cassandra Nova, etc. I see people take either side of it.
For the life of me I've never seen a person go, "Weapon Twelve possessed Darkstar, and Fantomex killed her. IT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF HIS RUN!"
I'm curious to see what the link is between the redhead Darkstar that's turned up in Jeph Loeb's new "Hulk" series (It's possible he never checked to see she was dead, or originally blonde) and the original.
But from her time on the Champions where her and Iceman had a thing, she had so, so much potential that was wasted. It's lamentable how she went out.
Emplate:
Again, another character that showed so much potential. He was supposed to build into a villain that was one of the key threats to the world by Bishop's future. Instead, he got trash-talked by Jubilee, of all people, whooped up on repeatedly at first by the gestalt of his kid-sisters, and then the wheels really came off.
Larry Hama, in spite of all he did on Wolverine's series once upon a time, wrote him in Generation X, pissed all over the St. Croix family tree, merged him with his twin sisters to make him not just a monstrosity, but an androgynous one that technically was always touching little girls, then had his daddy come pick him up, and take him away to... whatever the hell country he's originally supposed to be from. I believe it's France.
He hasn't been seen since. So much for becoming the uber-villain of the future.
Fixx:
Isn't it weird that she appeared right around the same time that Psylocke lost her telepathy, and went to telekinesis? Huh.
Of all the X.U.E. that came to the present, she was easily the coolest, over Archer and Greystone. Yeah, there are telepaths, but her power signature had to have been fun for... (I want to say) Duncan Rouleau to draw. A less generic uniform might have helped her, but characters displaced from the future aren't widely embraced anymore in Marvel-616. (Thanks for tryin' to kill babies & ruining it for everyone, Bishop!)
It would be nice to at least tell a story about how during "Blinded by the Light", that the Marauders started hunting down her and Archer, and if they lived or died. They did have knowledge of the future, and that was an instant invite onto Sinister's hit-list.
Nah, that'd never see print. :frown:

#6 Clear-Cut
Powers: Clear-Cut is a swordsman with the ability to materialize bladed weapons in his hands!
This is a bit of a WTF for me. Bladed weapons? So is he some sort of shapeshifter? Why only bladed weapons, what could the scientific explanation for that be? If I was writing Clear Cut I would give him egg whisk hands.

According to Wikipedia, they never went out. They just had a few moments, but she thought of him more as a brother than a boyfriend. Take from that what you will. *coughgaycough*

I know! I thought that would be the one title I would never have to give up. I mean, I started with it from #1, and enjoyed the run up until Hama, who I quite enjoyed his work on Wolverine and Sabretooth's mini, but he just didn't get these kids, nor did he have an actual storyline that made a whit of sense. So so depressed.:(

#11 Flex
Real Name: Adrian Corbo
First appearance: Alpha Flight Volume 2 #1
Most recent appearance: Alpha Flight Volume 2 #20
Powers: Flex has the ability to transform his arms and hands into razor sharp blades made of organic metal. He has also been shown to morph his leg into a similar weapon.
Status: Searching for his Pops
Creator: Steven Seagle and Scott Clark
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/1/18265/423940-flex2_super.jpg
Bio: Adrian Corbo was raised as an orphan in Canada’s Hull House, which was an orphanage run by Canada’s Department H for kids who have super human genetics or the possibility of such outcomes. His half brother, Jared Corbo, AKA Radius, was also raised in Hull House. When the boys were old enough, they were contacted by Department H and placed in the Alpha Flight program. Adrian was a soft spoken shy kid who was bullied by his older half brother. While Adrian became shy, reserved and bookish, Jared became athletically inclined, aggressive, and arrogant. Both brothers manifested mutant powers after puberty: Adrian gained the ability to transform parts of his body into blades, while Jared manifested a personal force field that could not be shut down. Adrian was very insecure about his abilities and his powers. His powers were extremely offensive but were almost a burden to his timid demeanor. His first instinct was always to talk things out and this was born true when during his first mission, to confront and capture the X-man Wolverine, he and Cannonball managed to stop the obligatory team fight by rationally discussing their concerns amidst a brawl.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/1/18265/483889-flexradius_super.jpg
During a battle with the Zodiac, Flex struck and killed an opponent. This accidental death haunted the youth and when the old squad returned to the fold, he was demoted to the Beta Flight team for more training. Flex meanwhile began a search for his unknown father. Clues pointed to a paternity suggested that Hull House was primarily a place for the stolen or hidden children of super humans. Clues pointed to his brother Jared being the son of Unus the Untouchable and to Adrian’s father being in the X-men.
There is a vicious untrue rumor that Flex was depowered after M-Day, but this is not true. There is also fanfiction out there that denotes that Flex is gay, which correlates well to his persona of the quiet, timid kid who was completely uninterested in his femme fatale teammate Murmur.

#9 Feral
Real Name: Maria Callasantos
First appearance: New Mutants #99
Last appearance: Wolverine Volume 2 #55
Powers: Feral has a feline appearance; enhanced senses and agility; healing factor; sharp claws, fangs and prehensile tail.
Status: Digesting in Sabretooth's rotten corpse
Creator: Rob Liefeld
http://www.comicbookdb.com/graphics/comic_graphics/4820_20070407174757_char.jpg
Bio: This little pussy cat got her start running from Masque's band of rogue Morlocks, and ends up hooking with the almost defunct Cable-ready New Mutants. Saving her tail from the Morlocks, she ends up hitching out with the other X-Forcians to their several random bases. First coming into conflict with the MLF and on a training exercise ends up GUTTING CANNONBALL!! Shortly after her little foray into Sam gutting, she and the rest of her teammates come into conflict with a new Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, including Masque and her sister THORNN. Here, we learn she has a affinity for making cool sound vernacular, like the phrase Shatty-buns.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/8200/341493-95718-feral_super.jpg
After a short stint on X-Force, she decides to change sides, and join up with the New Mutant Liberation Front, with Reignfire leading the group. While part of the MLF, her sister, Thornn is arrested for the murder of her mother's bf, but she says she didn't do it. She said that Feral framed her for it. Confronting Feral, they tricked her into admitting to it, when the revelation about her mom's bf sexually abusing both Thornn and Feral comes out. So, imo, the bastard deserved what he got.
While in prison, she learns she has the Legacy Virus, and trying to figure out which trick she got it from, she escapes and tries to get Isotope E from the High Evolutionary. Back in limbo again for a while, we next see Feral in X-Force as part of the new Hellions, with the lame-o King Bedlam as leader. But we got Tarot resurrected so it kinda worked out. While part of this team, she rips Siryn's vocal cords, making her unable to scream for a very long time.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/77/77808-27442-feral_super.jpg
After the cure, she and her sister in the most WTF moment, Grant Morrison has them join up with X-Corp Mumbai where they find dust in a dust buster.
M-DAY HITS!!! And leaves Feral and Thornn powerless. She get's peed of at the humans gawking at them, and attempts to disembowel a guy who's staring but her human nails didn't do squat, and they run away. Later in Wakanda, we see Feral and Thornn returned to their mutated cat forms by Romulus, but he didn't return their powers. And next thing we see her entrails splattered on the ground with Sabes going to town like he hadn't eaten in weeks.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/1/10069/460317-feral_00_super.jpg
Did you know?: It’s also been inferred that Feral pushed her little sister down a flight of stairs leading to her death! She also allowed her younger brother to fall from the roof of their tenement. She also killed her Coke Head Mom after the woman killed Feral’s flock of pet pidgeons! Thornn was lucky she shared her toys with her sister!

She did make a poor choice working for lame-o Bedlam, but seeing her rip out Terry's throat was priceless. Feral's transgression into a house cat was awful. Morrison didn't get the character at all and claiming that because she was cure of the Legacy Virus made her "nice" was crap. She was a bitch inside still. We all know it. Her death was premature, and I eagerly await the end of Wolverine Origins where Daniel way brings her back as a pawn of Romulus nd Girlfriend of Wild Child or Daken.

#12 Forearm
Real Name: Michael McCain
First appearance: The New Mutants #86
Most recent appearance: X-Force Miniseries #6
Powers: Forearm has an extra set of arms that extend from beneath his first set, giving him four arms (hence the name). He also has increased strength, resistance to injury, and stamina.
Status: Still mad at Danielle
Creator: Louise Simonson and Rob Liefeld
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/229/85856-193059-forearm_large.jpg
Bio:
Forearm was a mainstay of the mutant terrorism team known as the Mutant Liberation Front. Originally recruited by the mutant known as Stryfe, Forearm was part of a team that broke the New Mutants, Rusty and Skids out of prison. He’d be seen battling Wolverine, X-Factor, X-Force, Excalibur, Sunfire, and others as a informal leader of this vicious team of mutants. He also spent a huge amount of time in prison, since the MLF got caught and failed in their terroristic acts or thefts more often than not.
Through his time with the team, he never made many close friends. Even though he was the team’s muscle, he was seen as not as militant and definitely not as evil or violent as the majority of his teammates. That all changed when Moonstar decided to infiltrate the team. She taught them teamwork and professionalism. Moonstar and Michael became extremely close during this time period because she saw in him the potential for heroism and goodness and really dug his totally hot bod. Forearm trusted Moonstar and believed in her. He was crushed when she revealed to him that she was working for Shield to sabotage the MLF’s efforts. Disenchanted, he left the team and Danielle, seemingly giving up his life long career as a mutant terrorist.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/5648/279755-78256-forearm_super.jpg
He later showed up solo fighting in a deadly combat arena style competition in Madripoor called Bloodsport. He was unlucky enough to draw the mannish lesbian Anaconda and she killed him by snapping his neck.
Later still, he showed up unscathed and neck unsnapped in the X-Force miniseries written by Liefeld that nobody on Earth read. But *Yay* he’s back.

Feral: To quote Samuel L. Jackson from "A Time to Kill":
"I'm glad they're dead, and I hope they burn in HELL!"
Feral remains #2 on my list of loathed X-characters, for having a better track record of gutting teammates, getting her own *ss handed to her, or having a spaghetti-string tail growing out of a buttcheek, more than ever doing anything constructive. Keeping her around only makes me question Cable's supposed great military mind.
I respect what "Dirty Deeds w/ Feral" has become, and Swash's love for the character, but in no way can I adopt any love for this tick farm myself. Why a tick farm, as opposed to fleas? Because, they suck, thus they suit Feral better.
Forearm: A generic enhanced strength guy with a slight twist, with extra arms. You might just think, hey, it's Barbarus outside the Savage Land.
But no, Forearm had a heart, and double-agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Dani Moonstar broke Mr. McCain's. It's a great deal of characterization for an MLF member, most of whom were there just for big battles in the 90s without getting any time to have a personality. But Forearm's was the best.

#13 Cordy Frost
Real Name: Cordelia Frost
First appearance: Generation X #3
Last appearance: Chronologically Generation X #61; In the past Emma Frost #12
Powers: Cordelia Frost is immune to her sister’s telepathy. She’s psionically powered and allegedly a uber-powerful empath. She’s also got the ability to create powerful psionic blasts!
Status: On the Run!
Creator: Scott Lobdell
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/3848/112231-13129-cordelia-frost_thumb.jpg
Bio:
Cordelia Frost is the youngest of the Frost siblings. Her older sisters Adrienne and Emma are/were both talented and manipulative women who also happened to be powerful psionic mutants. It’s been rumored that Cordy is an empath of the highest order. Cordy first appeared in the pages of Gen X as a high flying debutante. She had been vacationing in Samoa when she’d become in perilous trouble. The manly Mondo saved her. She and the hunky Samoan mutant became friends (With benefits maybe? More like probably!) until her ambition got the best of her and “Whammo!” she caught him in a moment of weakness and psi-blasted him. Cordy burst onto the New England scene as a manipulative vixen angling to get into the inner circle of Shinobi Shaw’s Hell Fire Club. She turned Mondo over to the bisexual greatness that is Shinobi, but he was unimpressed (Likes Twinks I guess). Soon after, Mondo was stolen from her by unknown assailants. What a bummer she lost her meal ticket and her sex toy!
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/229/84881-132915-cordelia-frost_large.jpg
Later it was shown that Cordy was in trouble for her previous dealings with Mondo and she sought out Emma’s help/protection. She wasn’t exactly forthright with Emma about her and Mondo’s previous dealings. When Mondo, his “Uncle” Black Tom, and Juggy crashed the Gen X pad, the Gen X’rs protected sweet Cordy and bested the villians, but after doing so Emma deduced that Cordy had been less than pristine with Mondo and told her to get out of her sight and not to come back. Cordy has since listened to and followed directions and not been seen again.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/8134/192271-5240-cordelia-frost_super.jpg
It’s unknown if she knows that her middle sister snuffed out her eldest sister. Cordy is a survivor though and likely has landed on her feet. She was portrayed in the Emma Frost series as the “Lost” sibling and that likely bears true.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/1/10653/314045-125715-cordelia-frost_super.jpg
Did you know?: Cordy’s power set is VERY much up in the air. She’s been described as “The Charles Xavier” of Empaths and some bitter interneters have blasted this as fan fiction. Can you believe their nerve? Maybe Brian Cronin should solve this mystery in his Comic Book Legends column! Email him at cronb01@aol.com and convince him to solve this plague of a mystery!

It's weird that she's had under ten appearances, and usually she just shows up and begs Emma for help when she's in over her head, and then flees. The "Emma Frost" miniseries made her out to be a pseudo-rebel who popped chewing gum.
Maybe memories of Cordelia and her gum was why Emma was so hard on the bubblegum-poppin' Jubilee?
I dunno. Having her turn up as a new love toy of Sebastian Shaw to throw in Emma's face could be nice. There's uses for her, if a writer gives her a chance. Just don't make her a clone of Emma, or a clone of Adrienne.

Real Name: Mawther
First appearance: Captain Britain #3
Last appearance: Fantastic Four Volume 2 #8
Powers: Gate Crasher has superhuman strength, stamina, and durability. Telepathy and wears wrist bands that fire energy.
Status: Unknown *Sadness*
Creator: Jamie Delano and Alan Davis

Bio-
Gatecrasher and her tech-net are a bunch of bounty hunters who were first seen trying to capture Kapiton Briton, and mistakenly went after the 616 Captain Britain but helped him escape once learning the truth.
She was later sent to 14th Century Earth, and went to an all you can eat buffet, but unfortunately ate some undercooked meat, and got salmonella. Fortunately, Brian and Meggan were around and helped save her.
Saturnyne later sent the Technet to capture Rachel. This battle happened several times over the course of Ray being in Excalibur.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/77/186662-145111-gatecrasher_super.jpg
We finally see Gate Crasher attempting to capture Franklin Richards after the whole Heroes Reborn thing-y. And that's all we've seen of them since 1998.
Did you know?: The Technet member known as Yap is intensely attached to Gatecrasher to her annoyance. He’s the member that first calling her Mother!

#15 Ghost Girl
Real Name: Lilli Stevens
First appearance: Alpha Flight Vol. 2 #2
Most recent appearance: Alpha Flight Vol. 2 #20
Powers: She can become intangible like Shadowcat
Status: Unknown...YAY?!?!!!!
Creator: Steve Seagle, and Scott Clark
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/6754/171432-105740-lilli_super.JPG
Bio: Lilli spent much of her time cow tipping on her grand-father's cattle ranch, until he died. Then she got shipped off to the state orphange, called Hull House. Spoooky. While in the orphanage, she tried playing frisbee, but it just went through her, which caught the eye of over-weight and nosey Mrs. De La Salle. She contacted Dept. H about a legacy child was ripe for the picking.
Being tricked into being adopted, the orphanage threw her a going-away party, but it soon turned into smoke. They were gov't. agents who were there to recruit her to Dept. H.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/6754/171434-105622-lilli_super.JPG
Lilli, upset and scared, escaped her cell within the Beta Flight wing at Department H and found Diamond Lil in the reception area before begging her for help because she no wanted to go home. Two red Epsilons found her and quickly escorted her back to her room and Diamond Lil thought that the girl looked kinda familiar.
She bumps into Puck, and talks to him a bit. A little while later, she's caught throwing a fit, and ends up having her memories wiped by Director Clarke to keep her more complacent.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/6754/171433-102565-lilli_super.JPG
She got to hang out with other awesome recruits, Ouija, and Flinch, but she's the only one who gets bumped up to Alpha trainee status after Director Clarke bites it fighting the Zodiac.
While moving her stuff to the Alpha wing, she meets Murmur and bumps into Flex who wants to slide his metal member into her ghost box. lol Shortly afterwards, she helps new Alpha Flight and old Alpha Flight beat the new Weapon X, who was trying to set off a nuclear bomb in Canada. Can you imagine all the garbage they'd be sending to us THEN??? She, as well as Flex and Murmur were never heard from again.
Did you know?: She can also use her intangible body to create gateways through solid objects for others to use. She has created pathways for Puck and Flex to pass through her, and doing so tickles her.

Real Name: Theodore Winchester
First appearance: X-Force #8
Last appearance: Cable #24
Powers: Grizzly has enhanced strength and resilliance as well as super stamina and reflexes. Grizzly also has razor sharp clawed hands and a hot ass Red Fur covered body.
Status: Heart Breakingly Dead
Creator: Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/1/10069/564547-grizzly_00_super.jpg
Bio:
Grizzly is a red furred bohunk of astronomical proportions. He was an old friend of Cable's and a member of the mercenary group known as the Wild Pack/Six Pack. When they fell apart, he left the Merc life for a quiet cabin in the wilderness with a serious bitterness toward Cable.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/229/89762-63905-grizzly_super.jpg
Years later, G.W. Bridge came a'calling and convinced Theo to join Weapon P.R.I.M.E., a group brought together to bring Cable to justice. The group was a miserable failure IE Hot Mess, but I totally lurved them to pieces. I mean how can you not love a team that had Rictor, Grizzly, Tygerstryke, Yeti, G.W. Bridge, and Garrison Kane. So the team failed and almost got blowed up and Grizz left again back for the homey cabin in the woods.
http://www.comicbookdb.com/graphics/comic_graphics/7718_20070908112348_char.jpg
He was next seen in the pages of X-Force, as Grizz, Domino, and Hammer broke into Department K to clear out their files on Cable. Theo was such a good friend to Cable. They barely escaped and managed to download all the files and keep his former leader safe. Again, after the hard work was done, Theo left again for that cabin in the woods.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/77/228108-60427-grizzly_large.jpg
Tragically, Grizzly was next seen at his cabin. He'd been mind controlled by Cable's brat of a foster son, Genesis, into being a serial killer. It freaking broke his (and my) heart. Domino investigated the deaths and determined who had done them. Theo Winchester was tracked down by Domino. After a brief fight, he begged Domino to end him. She was forced to kill him, but not before promising to keep his death and Genesis's involvement a secret to Cable. She kept her word and the 616 universe was less for having lost another bohunk.
Did you know?: I totally cried when I read Grizzly's death scene. Not sobbed or anything, but I'm man enough to admit it.
