Doc,

I recently received your Inter-Fanthology promo piece, and I must say that overall, I was very pleased with getting it. I also want to thank you for sending one along to me.

First, I was delighted to see that the printing quality, was for the majority of the product, quite good. Clear to read, though a few of the art pieces were a bit muddled, or difficult to see well. Something that I'm sure could be addressed for the future. The size format was perfect for what it is, and I liked that quite a lot.

The writing of it, was great. I admire and applaud your desire to reconnect some of today's fandom with the unsung heroes (and I'm speaking of creators as well as creations) of the past. Too often, today's reader is insular, and forget that there's a long legacy of folks that toiled hard to get out their story, their work, sometimes to little or no accolades. Some of it being quite good, some of it being... well.. more on the amateurish side, but legit nonetheless because of their pure drive and desire to get the work out there. As an old codger, I can remember the days of trying to find anything that would make a copy (school copier, library photostat machine, try to find a kid today who knows what carbon paper is!), just to get something out there. It's nice to see that you're wanting to explore beyond what's just hot for the moment, and reflect back on what was hidden just under the surface of the bigger publishers. Some of the stuff was crude perhaps by today's standards, but heartfelt. That's what's important.

I also think your desire to bring attention to the new talent that's out there, yet not recognized is a great thing as well. With such a flood of up and comers out there, trying to promote themselves in some fashion, it's often difficult to weed out the one's with real promise, and the one's that are perhaps less talented, but no less driven. This I applaud as well, and was pleased to find it in the pages.

I, however, think that you're perhaps missing the boat on the websites thing. Yes, some are quite temporary, but I think that's because they don't get enough traffic to them, and the owners lose their impetus to keep it up. I say, include the websites that you think are of the same mindset as the original thrust of the IF book. Those sites that want to take a look back, or are open to the new talent that's out there. Work in concert with each other, instead of against. Cross promote each other to reach an even wider audience. But this is merely a suggestion.

As I said, overall, I was very pleased, and honored to get the IF in my mailbox! I'm curious as to where or whom I have to contact to continue receiving them!

Well done Doc.... please keep it up! It's a labor of love obviously, and can not be expected to stick to a timetable of bi monthly or anything. But I'd enjoy seeing it whenever I could!

I give it a three thumbs out of four!

Gee James, I'm very flattered and as I told you, First off thanks for the LOC and great review especially about the websites though I love them and
cross promote where ever I can. Was that an article I did or one of the editorials.
I actually got the book printed at Office Max and they picked the stock for the covers.
Oh yeah thanks for the compliment about the up and comers. I discovered long ago not to use my tastes as far as art goes unless I can see that they have no basic knowledge of art. I like pushing the envelope so wait till you see the covers of issue 2 and 3.
Again thanks, Will actually put LOC in 2nd issue.
