So the General becomes Red Robin, Damian becomes Robin, and Tim Drake becomes Batwoman. It all suddenly makes sense.

I'm sorry, I can't get excited about this. Why isn't Devin Grayson writing it? She was the one who came up with the Batwoman revamp and she got screwed over by DC when Batwoman was folded into 52.
This is all very ironic considering how many Batman offshoots are being canceled.

Apparently the Question has been asked extra hard if Batwoman is finally coming.

I've been waiting excitedly.....in the meantime I've grabbed that giant bone to flip through.

I think they're going to have to work extra hard to get readers to care about Batwoman. Its not that there's that much wrong with the character in a broad theoretical sense, it's just that she's kind of sat there lingering for years undeveloped, and I think that's induced a pretty automatic eye-roll whenever she's brought up. Added to the general assumptions most people have that she was brought in for some odd combination of "diversity" and titilation (because a so-called "lipstick lesbian" who's a gorgeous heiress who sleeps with other gorgeous women is probably presumed to be more exciting to comic geekdom as a whole), as well as the fact that a lot of Batgirl fans probably despise the character (again, there's a general perception to fight--that Batwoman was a "replacement" who caused an editorial dictate that screwed up the Batgirl character pretty badly), well... Batwoman's got a big hill to climb for a lot of readers to give a crap about her.

Does this character even exist in Batman continuity at this point? About two years ago, I heard she was a wealthy dyke (from a newspaper article, not a comicbook), and that's still the extent of what I know about her.
I don't think she's ever been mentioned in Batman, Detective, Robin, Nightwing or Catwoman.

Yes, apparently she isn't a very hard working hero.
She WAS mentioned in the Crime Bible: Five Lessons of Blood, by Rucka. And I think she may have one panel or so in Final Crisis: Revelations, again by Rucka. But even in those she's kind of an appendage of Renee Montoya, with no relevance or connection or even a mention by any actual Bat character beyond that.
Wait... she also gets a one panel non-speaking role in Final Crisis 3, I think, as a demon dog handler along with Pig-faced Wonder Boar,, and whatever the hell Catwoman is in that (a Female Fury?). So, there! She CAN appear on panel with other characters besides The Question!

I think DC left it too long. They've lost a lot of the buzz they would have had.

That buzz was all about her being a lesbian, so it doesn't really matter. Any readers attracted by that, likely wouldn't be around long. DC would never allow the graphic rug-munch extravaganza required to keep them interested, and even if they did, the novelty would fizzle quickly.
Anyway, less lesbian buzz sorta neutralizes the "only gay characters who aren't a gimmick should be allowed, but a character being gay is automatically a gimmick, so gay characters shouldn't be allowed at all" argument that assholes give.

What they should have done was make Montoya become Batwoman. But they were SO invested in using Montoya as The Question, to finish out 52, they missed the opportunity. They could have even had the redhead have that identity, have her die, and have Montoya take it as a legacy.
Even mucked around so much from her original portrayal, readers at least knew and somewhat cared about Montoya. Nobody knew or cared about Katherine Kane, except as a new character who shared the name of a Silver age character nobody really missed anyway.

I hope JH can maintain the monthly schedule. His art = gold.
Wasn't he supposed to be the artist on Dini's DETECTIVE (before being quickly replaced by Don Kramer)?

I just can't seem to make myself care about Batwoman. I thought that she was dull in 52. I'll probably give this a try though, because of Rucka and JH Williams. Also, I do like the irony of bringing back a character who was created in attempt to discourage people from thinking Batman and Robin were gay as a lesbian.

This doesn't really jibe with the actual definition of "ironic." Especially since clearing house in a line is almost always followed by the launching of replacements that are more in keeping with the vision of whoever's steering at the moment.

Because she is the Chuck Austen of the DCU. Like Chuck retailers will refuse to support her books even though sales of her stuff is really strong. She really killed her career over in Nightwing.

Poppycock. She redeemed herself in her last two issues and she is nowhere near the level of stupidity that was Chuck Austen. It's thanks to Devin Grayson that I'm into comics in the first place and I don't appreciate DC spitting on her hard work just so they could shove Batwoman into "lipstick lesbian."

I dunno, publicity is publicity. The more people looking at your book, the better. Maybe some of those people would have stuck with the book, maybe not. Maybe some would have enjoyed it, even with a level of substance they weren't expecting. And anytime you're doing a book starring a lesbian, there's going to be some level of 'hot leso action' buzz. Just one of those strange society things, and of course the social awkwardness of many comics readers.
Either way, couldn't the character be further ahead than this?

Most people dropped the book before the last two issues. When people think of Devin they think of all the crap she put Dick through which turned him into a broken mess and who still was a broken mess after the mob arc was abruptly and darkly ended.
To her credit her arc was suppose to end with Dick being in a much stronger happier vibrant place. She had this massive epic story planned where she was going to tear him and rebuild him much stronger than before. She never got to do that crossovers kept derailing her plans not to mention the fact that other writers kept derailing her storylines like when Dick slept with Kory in Outsiders.
