Well, I recall that Jefferson was tall too (tall, period, not just tall for the 18th century)...

And a bit more checking reveals that Obama (6 ft 1½ in), will in fact, only be the 9th tallest president... Beating him are

Abraham Lincoln 6 ft 3 3/4 in 1.93 m

Lyndon B. Johnson 6 ft 3½ in 1.92 m
Bill Clinton

Thomas Jefferson 6 ft 2½ in 1.89 m
Chester A. Arthur
George H. W. Bush
Franklin D. Roosevelt

And the tallest presidential candidate was a man pretty much lost to history--the 1852 election's loser, Winfield Scott (6 ft 5 in). Almost as tall though (and even slightly taller than Lincoln...) John Kerry (6 ft 4 in).

Bill Clinton is 6'3"??? I have a hard time believing that. He looks to be about the same height as Obama. Whenever I've seen them together on stage and at other places they look like they're the same height. Bill Clinton never struck me as being tall enough to be 6'3":

Apparently the answer to this may be "people lie". Clinton is cited as various heights in various places, apparently. Forget that wikipedia page. A couple of other sources on the web you can find easily via Google seem to claim he was officially documented as 6'2.5" when he was first sworn in as President. Of course its possible he's shrunk. It DOES happen.

And it looks like copying and pasting from the web moved a couple of entries on the chart I pasted above. LBJ is supposed to be on his own line, and Clinton one lower, the same height as Jefferson. It's supposed to look more like this:
