A trivial question for the mavens of variance who frequent this board from time to time: Is there, or is there not, a variant cover for AVENGERS FOREVER #6? The 12-issue maxi-series from Marvel, 1998-99 had a number of variant covers, I know, but supposedly there exists a variant for issue #6. I've never seen it, and I've never seen it pictured on a web site. Is it apocryphal? Thanks for your help.

I cannot provide a definitive answer here, but maybe this ebay auction item (http://cgi.ebay.com/Avengers-Forever-1-12-Variants-FULL-SET-LOT-15-Comics_W0QQitemZ250319679099QQihZ015QQcategoryZ327 50QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) might be a very strong clue leaning towards it not existing.

I'm sure you checked comics.org. and MIle High. Comics.org makes no mention of an alternative cover for six but does note the three variants for #4, while Mile High has a slot for the alternate to #6 but offers no cover scan nor artist information on who drew it. Unlike the four entries for issue four. Michi, Are you aware of anyone citing creative information to the possible variant?

We need the authoritative insights of Metarog to possible shed some additional insights.

Totally trivial note of a personal nature:
I do have the entire series, but i wasn't big on buying multiple copies just to have a variant cover in this time frame, even of something as highly collectible and well crafted as this series was. My sons and I went with the Jeff Smith cover for issues #4 for our collections, leaving what was considered to be the main non-variant on the racks at Mayhem Comics in Ames Iowa. No big surprise there as we are big-time Bone fans. In retrospect and considering my growing admiration for Carlos Pacheco, I kinda wish I had picked it up as well.

I'm pretty sure there is not a variant. That auction just has the regular twelve issues and the three variant #4s (my favorite was the Frank Quitely cover; what was yours?).

The GCD has info on the back cover: "Back cover designed by John Roshell; 3-D rendering by Doug Rowell and Randee Z." Maybe that's what started the rumor?

I have to say the Buscema cowboy cover, just 'cause I'm as sucker for Marvel's Big Three Kids (or is that three big kids?).

But the Quitely is quite nice, quite.
