Augie:

Nice article on Tom Strong.
I wish the first hardcover was a little easier to find. For some reason I missed ordering it upon release and it quickly became a rarity. As a result, I passed on volume two and beyond. (Larger absolute editions would be nice; what's DC's relationship with Alan Moore this week?)

Glad to see Chris Sprouse in Modern Masters. Long time fan since his Legion days and actually got to meet him and get an Ultra Boy sketch way back when.

Here's a late submission for your Modern Masters suggestions: Gary Frank.
His recent Superman work was as top notch as ever!

It's interesting that you credit Tom Strong's larger lettering to the letterer. I always assumed that was something Alan Moore requested.

You know Augie: He's cuckoo for consonants.

That's a good point. It might have been in Moore's script. I suppose I could drop Todd a line. He's fairly accessible. . . Given all his design input in ABC, I always just assumed he added that, too. I'll have to check.

I exchanged e-mails with Todd Klein about this. He doesn't remember anymore whether the larger lettering came from him or Moore's script. He did say that he has some lettering samples he did up for Tom Strong that he plans on using in his blog at some point in the future. Maybe those will jog his memory or show some evidence one way or another. We'll see someday. . .

Heh - it always amuses me that fans are often so much more familiar with work than the creators.

It reminds me of that sketch where William Shatner told a bunch of Trekkies to get a life.
