At first she was all "ugh!" to me up until "Disturbia". Then, when "Disturbia" hit, I was like, "that's not bad". Then came "Live Your Life", and I was pumped by it. Now, there's "Rehab" and I was pretty much blown away. She's really making good songs now.

She does seem a lot more talented than most of the pop - r&b acts out there.

She's no more talented than the others, she just has slightly better song writers.

Actually, she's somewhat less talented than Beyonce or Christina Aguilera, which makes for better pop: her affectless singing style slots in better with modern robot-pop than their always-dialed-to-eleven diva turns.
That said, I think "Rehab" is dull, dull, dull. (And "Live My Life" is properly a T.I. track.)

Should I have said Kanye West instead of Rihanna?

She's no more talented than the others, she just has slightly better song writers. It's more than that she has great producers and good instincts.
Her voice is nice too.

I heard "Rehab" for the first time today, and thought it was amazingly boring, especially with JT and Timbaland working on it. "Shut up and Drive" still remains one of the catchiest songs in recent pop, though.

Both, at least from where I sit. (And throw in melody, while you're at it.) After Amy Winehouse, any song called "Rehab" had better be amazing, and it's just ordinary. I've heard it a lot, and when it comes on I still can't place it until Rihanna starts singing, which is pretty damning for pop.

(And I should note that "Rehab" is not technically a new song, but is from her days of pre-"Umbrella" anonymity.) (Relative anonymity, anyway. You don't get the Timbos without selling some.)

I did like when Rihanna and Fall Out Boy combined at last years MTV Music Awards. She tore it down rocking out. Maybe they should make her lead singer and I'll buy an album !

I love Rihanna! Her songs aren't the deepest when it comes to lyrics, but I'll be damned if I'm not shaking my tail-feathers everything one of her joints come on the radio! She's a great preformer too, which makes me love her even more!!!!!

Rehab would be post Umbrella (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Girl_Gone_Bad)
But yeah, "Rehab" is pretty boring. Tim was phoning that one in.
and Danity Kane and Cheri Dennis would disagree with your last statement.

"Umbrella" was released the day before the album that contained "Rehab" was released, so technically you're right. But that still doesn't make "Rehab" new.
(Okay, seven days if you're looking at U.S. releases.)

There is a guy who makes documentaries says that Rhianna has been possessed by the devil (Rainman) and her lyrics in her latest tracks are actually Rainman speaking.
Do a google search for this.

Ok ....rocking more than usual for both bands.....to be truthful.
When she did that song with Maroon 5 from their second album, that's what made me throw down the white flag, 'cause that was a great song to make a duet out of in the first place, then the video was all kinds of sexy!
But yeah, I've talked to a lot of people about this before, and Rihanna is benefitting from the fact that as a singer, she's not terribly dynamic, but that's exactly what lets her fit into whatever mold she sees fit. And I find it rather ironic that in terms of her overall image, she manages to be more sexually alluring and captivating now, than when they were trying to push her as a crossover dancehall artists, ala Sean Paul. She was too tame for even pop-level dancehall, but now, she's a little bit racier and suggestive. I've always said, there's a difference between just being sexy and flat out personifying sex (everything that it entails, not just intercourse, mind you), and Rihanna's kinda getting to that point where she's leaning towards the latter. Even Beyonce isn't "sex". She's sexy, but she's not sex.

To be fair, a 16 year old really shouldn't be doing any dance hall!

You know who did a better version of "Umbrella" ? It was Mandy Moore. She slowed it down , and made it into a more sad song. A lot better than what Rihanna did.

She's pop nothingness. She probably just has better production/writers and handlers.

Just look at Britney for an example of that.
