Hey, who here would be up for a fighting game along the lines of Tekken, Soul Caliber or Street Fighter, but done with an all Spider-Man centric cast?

The game's story might be something along the lines of the Kingpin or the Hood holding a contest amongst the super villain community in New York to see who would be his newest Enforcer. Of course, the villain battles spill out into the streets forcing Spider-Man and other New York heroes to join the fray.

Fighting locals would include the top of the George Washington Bridge (or whatever bridge Green Goblin and Spider-man fought on in "the Night Gwen Stacy Died") The Osborne mansion, Kingpin's/ The Hood's lair, the sewers of New York, ESU, ect. There would be mid air combos, finishing moves, secret costumes, ect.

My idea for the roster would be:

Spider-Man
Black Cat
Luke Cage
Iron Fist
DareDevil
Punisher
Moon Knight
Green Goblin
Venom
Electro
Vulture
Shocker
Rhino
Sandman
Doctor Octopus

With the end bosses being the Kingpin or the Hood, followed by a major fight with Carnage.

Of course there would be special costumes and characters. Black suited Spidey, Spider-Girl (Black Cat alternate), Hobgoblin (Green Goblin alternate).

So, what do you think? Any ideas on the gameplay? Who would you choose for the roster? Lets here what you think.

I'd rather see a massive Marvel fighting game, with plenty of playable Spider-Man characters available as online downloads, or something.

That said, this could be cool.

Some additions to the roster...
Jackpot- Due to the lack of female characters, more than anything else.
The Prowler
The J Jonah Jameson Spider Slayer from Amazing Spider-Man #57. Just to get Spider-Man's best supporting character into the game somehow.
Sandman
The Lizard- Turns into Curt Connors when he's weakened.

Actually, if they were going to do a fighting game, it most likely would be a Marvel Universe one, although a strictly Spider-Man fighting game would be pretty cool if done right. Also, it looks as though it takes on a kind of Marvel Knights theme as well.

As for your list, I'd probably have Green Goblin be an end boss that becomes unlockable at the end of the game. Also, if you're going to include Daredevil as part of the fighting roster, you might as well include Elektra and Bullseye in the list. Also, I'm surprised you didn't include Doctor Octopus in the list, although he could be a boss character. Also, it would be cool to have Mysterio and The Lizard as part of the choice of players as well. So, the list could look like this.

HEROES
*Spider-Man
*Black Cat
*Luke Cage
*Iron Fist
*DareDevil
*Punisher
*Moon Knight
*Elektra
*Ghost Rider

VILLIANS
*Venom
*Electro
*Vulture
*Shocker
*Rhino
*Sandman
*Mysterio
*Bullseye
*The Lizard

BOSSES
*Doctor Octopus
*Kingpin
*The Hood
*Green Goblin

Also, as well as having the "arena" be your standard two fighters and 360 degrees and knocking opponents into lower levels and throwing them into other "rooms," it also should incorporate a "wall crawling" feature, in that several of the characters can go on various surfaces, so now you have to counter moves and even fight on walls and ceilings or even in the air.

Oh, and you could have a "Daily Bugle" arena, which Jameson in the background cheering, jeering, or cowering in the corner based upon whose playing.

Hmm, it perhaps would be a bit much, though, if you had the option of picking Mary Jane or Aunt May dressed in Iron Man combat armor, though.

The reason I brought this up is that we've already seen a lot of Marvel Universe Centric Fighting games. From the Capcom Marvel game, to Marvel vs Capcom (1 & 2), the that EA game a little while back. We've even seen X-Men centric fighters, but never one centered around their flagship character. I'm talking about a fighting game centered SOLELY in the Spider-Man universe, and you'll have to admit there is enough material there to warrant at least a try. Plus, wouldn't it be cool to play as some of Spidey's villains for once, throwing pumpkin bombs as the Green Goblin or calling down a huge electrical storm on Venom as Electro?

Also, if you're going to include Daredevil as part of the fighting roster, you might as well include Elektra and Bullseye in the list.

Gotta save something for the sequel. But I also had the same idea, but didn't want to overwhelm the roster in the first game.

A reasonable desire... although why not keep it solely Spider-man centric then? Having characters like Daredevil dilutes that a little... since it's hard to imagine him as just "part" of Spider-man's universe.

Anyway, I would clock out a roster like this:

Heroes:
Spider-man
Black Cat
Anti-Venom
Spider-Girl
Jackpot

Villains:
Green Goblin
Doctor Octopus
Venom
Hobgoblin
Carnage
Lizard
Mysterio
Morbius
Rhino
Shocker
Electro
Vulture
Scorpion
Sandman
Calypso

Even 20

Of course if you're gonna dip into MC2, you can easily add a couple to the heros side -- The Buzz and Darkdevil (not to mention Raptor).
Also, there's Kaine and Scarlet Spider (though that one AND Spider-Girl may be pushing it...)

Very true, in regards to Buzz... although mainly I was looking to inflate the female count in the roster (would have avoided MC2 altogether... but didn't feel right about including a Jessica Drew Spider-woman given the current state of the character). Would have nominated Shriek, in fact, for just that reason... although her Electro and Shocker seem like overkill in trying to have diverse movelists. So the obscure Calypso fit the bill instead.

Ya know a Spider-Man fighting game doesn't sound like a bad idea, but as some people have said on here it's more likely they'd do a Marvel fighting game over a Spider-Man one. Speaking of which, I read in Official Playstation Magazine UK a few months back that Marvel vs Capcom 3 is being made. God I hope it's 2D. 2D fighters were the best.

Ohhh, sounds fun. And the best part: each character could have the classic "unlock-able" function when you beat the game playing as said character.

Spider-Man--> Black Costume, naturally
Scarlet Spider --> New Spider-Man
Venom --> Anti-Venom
Classic Green Goblin --> Modern armored Green Goblin
Hobgoblin--> Cybernetic Hobgoblin
Carnage --> Toxin
Lizard --> Bestial Lizard (Or the Iguana, to get really obscure.)
Sandman and Hydroman --> Their respective Frightful Four costumes
Rhino --> Ultimate Rhino
Dr. Octopus --> Lady Octopus
Scorpion --> Venom w/ Scorpion tail
Daredevil --> Iron Fist
Luke Cage --> 70's Luke Cage
Kraven --> Puma

Considering Street Fighter IV is on the way soon, and Capcom is supposedly making Marvel vs Capcom 3, a Spider-Man fighting game would have to be something pretty special to tempt me.

But I also had the same idea, but didn't want to overwhelm the roster in the first game.A problem is we'd probably all rather see a Marvel fighting game with dozens of playable characters, rather than a Spider-Man fighting game with the same engine, and significantly less characters.

If you're going to do a Spider-Man fighting game, you need to have playable characters in the dozens, at least, for it to be a satisfying experience.

I'd go a different angle with this.

I've been wondering how a Smash Bros style Marvel game would be, and considering how Spidey tends to leap from rooftop to rooftop, pull out lamposts and wack people with them, and all that, he might just be the character to try it with.

Now, for the plot, I'd probably go with something like, Dr. Octopus has hidden bombs of a doomsday weapon somewhere in the city and left some of Spidey's greatest villains to guard them or guard the clues to where they are or the clues to get to the next villain or something to that effect. You know, kinda like he did with the first Sinister 6 storyline.

Between each fight, you'd get to see a Daily Bugle Headline with Jameson's unique spin on the situation. Beat Vulture and there's a picture saying "SPIDER-MAN PICKS ON THE ELDERLY!" beat Daredevil and yu get a headline "SPIDER-MAN BEATS UP BLIND MAN!"

As for the characters ...

Heroes
Spider-man (naturally)
Daredevil
Black Cat
Firestar
Iceman

Villains
Kingpin
Morbius
The Swarm
Mysterio
Sandman
Electro
Vulture
Green Goblin
Venom
Kraven
Lizard
Carnage
The Spot
Scorpion
Rhino
Shreik
Green Goblin

With the Last Boss being Dr. Octopus

Also, three hidden characters that you have to unlock
Aunt May (the games joke character)
Zombie Spider-man (instead of the Newspaper headlines when you beat somebody you get a Tales from the Crypt style cover)

and making his return from the original playstation game, his only apperance to date.... Monster Octopus! (in case you're not familiar, it's Dr. Octopus with the Carnage symbite)

But on the plus side, all of the effort put into the marvel game is being used in Champions Online. Which looks to be quite a step up from C/VoH in terms of gameplay and customization.

I would love to see a HUGE Marvel fighting game. With a roster of over 50 some characters. Between the Avengers, FF, X-men, all the solo heroes like Spidey , and the best villains in the universe, you could have a huge amount of playable characters.

And Imagine the fighting stages with multiple tiers and air combat as well, fighting from the top of a sky scraper down to the city streets in New York as Spidey or slashing your way through the Jungles of the savage land as Wolverine....the potential for a game like that is really only limited to the quality of the developer and the amount of time and effort put into the game.

I was just thinking of what a sequel could be. It would involve a clone saga type story, borrowing from the Ultimate Clone Saga (the good one) with Doctor Octopus creating a series of clones of Spider-Man villains, and having all the characters from the first game join forces. New characters would include the likes of Kraven, Mysterio, Bullseye, Elektra, Dr. Strange (I know, not exactly a Spider-Man character but as Ultimate Spider-Man showed he can fit into Spidey's world. Plus, when else would you get a chance to play as the good Doctor in a fighting game?) and the Scarlet Spider, but with a redesigned costume. The gimmick would be the "cloned" version of all the characters, which would have their own bizarre, unique designs (Vulture's clone would look like a humanoid vulture, Sandman would be even more monsterous, ect). The end boss would be a super Doc Ock clone.

The game could incorporate a new tag team system that has players teaming up and performing combo moves. Each team would have their own unique set of moves and such.

Well, given that we're talking about what we would like a Spider-Man fighting game would be, what WOULD tempt you to try it out? Any ideas on what you would like to see borrowed from the Capcom franchise? Anything that they should leave out? What could the game offer you in order to try it out? So far we've only talked about the roster, but what would you like to see about the gameplay?

HEROES

*Mysterio
*Bullseye
*The Lizard

BOSSES
*Doctor Octopus
*Kingpin
*The Hood
*Green Goblin
You know: If the final boss (Green Goblin) becomes unlockable I hope some costumes get unlockable as well:
*His costume when he turned nuts and started burning Thunderbolts security guards
*Norman Osbourn
*Movie Goblin
*New Goblin from Spider-Man 3

Shocker is more appropriate as a Boss than Kingpin, everytime Spider-Man battled (Wilson Fisk) physically Wilson get's his snot kicked out of him until he resorts to a trick to get on Spider-Man, Shocker can blast Kingpin and make him fly over 100 feet away.

I'll ad to your heroes list:
1. Johnny Storm (his best friend and the one he teamed up with the most)
2. Captain America/Steve Rogers
3. Iceman (They had a real great friendship in Spider-Man & his Amazing Friends)
4. Deadpool
5.Wolverine

To your villains list:
*T-Ray
*Black Heart
*Mole-Man
*Sabertooth
*Scorpion/Mac Gargan

To be honest, i don't think a Marvel fighting game, Spider-Man or whole Universe, can stand up to MvC2 or SFIV. What i think they COULD push in on is the Smash-Bros-esque fighter.

1) it would need a massive roster of fighters, each with as individual (as possible ) skill sets. Fighting game creators seem unwilling these days to produce huge, unique rosters, i guess because they could keep characters back and use them for sequels. Its also highly infuriating when you get a big roster and a bunch of the characters are just clones of each other. So be like Smash Bro's in that there is a big roster of characters from all over the MU, but UNLIKE Smash bros in that all of them need to be unique, and have costume changes rather than copy characters.

2) the Smash Bro's template fits perfectly because then you can add in all the fantastic and bizzare aspects of the MU. Have Infinity gems as rare items to appear. The hundreds of different weapons and items we have seen across marvel comics could be used as depletable weapons.

3) Comic book settings lend themselves perfectly to the interactive multi-layered battlegrounds seen on Smash bros, as opposed to an empty ring seen in most fighting games (pillars and crates in the empty ring dont automatically make it "interactive)

4) the ability to jump around, hang on to the edge of cliffs/ledges, throw each other about, be hit by debris/passing scenery is alot more Marvel Comics than two guys putting their dukes up. Also, how do you give a character like, say Johny Storm moves in a traditional fighting game, when in the comics he is usually throwing fire and stuff? in a Smash-Bro's like game, he can do that.

5) The slightly more mad-cap action, combined with the fact that more than 2 people can fight, fits the comic book setting more. How often do 2 foes stand in an empty circle in the savana to fight? not often. In comparrison, set a level on top of a New York sky scraper, and how often do 4 Marvel heroes scrap it out on the roof tops of New York? All the friggin time!

If people wanted to limit this idea to Spider-Man, then that could work too. but i think the idea would be better for the whole Marvel Universe.

Y,know Shyft, I like this idea for a multi-tiered environment like Smash Bros. or Power Stone. The battleground could be multi layered environments. The Daily Bugle newsroom could have desks which can be destroyed or used as shelter and weapons. Battles could spill out onto streets or onto buildings. There could be civilians running around the edges or through the battlefield. The action could pull out when the combatants are far apart and then zoom in when they close in on each other or when they perform power moves. It would also help with online play since it would allow more than two players to share the environment, plus it would make it look different than most other fighters which, like you stated, tend to come across as an empty battle field with elements surrounding the players. I would open it up to not just 4 players at a time, but upwards to 6 or 8 players, with teams being formed and having a round rumble or tag team type of matches that can be played online.
