Hmmm. Norman Osborn on the Atlas radar, and a little glee in the eyes of Jimmy Wu.
Wasn't all that excited about the Secret Warriors, as we've already seen them in action, and they are a little stiff in the way they carry out their missions. What could really send the cat among the pidgeons is if Fury has to take Osborn down. Or maybe everybody tries to take osborn down. Avengers, Atlas, Fury, and Stark.

Lady Liberators are good as an ambush squad. They don't exist, but respond to a call up. That way nobody can attack each one because they are spread out so far, if they get any enemies. Sort of like shock troops. I specifically like Franklin Richards bodyguard from those old FF stories. She has this scithe that rips space open and allows them to teleport wherever they like. I forget her name.

I was kind of hoping the new series would deal with the Agents dealing with old school villains and threats, like rampaging sea monsters or golden cities full of robotic amazons or whatever. Butting heads with Norman is good too, though.

The Dark Avengers cover intrigues me, especially Iron Patriot. It could be just the art but some of the characters don't like right, like its someone else in the costumes.

Wolverine immediately stood out to me as just not looking right, but I don't think it's a woman. My initial reaction was that it's the Thunderbolts:
Norman = Iron Patriot (The patriotic theme of Osbourne as the "hero" of SI and a final humiliation of Stark)
Moonstone = Ms. Marvel
Gargan = Gargan (duh)
Swordsman/Bullseye = Wolverine/Hawkeye (not sure which would be which, but Bullseye = Hawkeye makes sense to me)
Either that, or it's Stark in the armor going after Osbourne with a crack team. But again, the old Ms. Marvel uniform (Now worn by Ultra-Girl), Hawkeye back in his old gear (with Ronin appearing on the leaked NA cover) AND the weird looking Wolverine?!? It just makes it seem too unlikely it's all really them.

that was the plan from the start. Quesada set out to make the Avengers titles like the X-Men titles of old. that's why you have Dark Avengers; which is basically X-Force. you have Young Avengers, which is basically New Mutants. they've been X-menized.

I hope that's the NA team. I love the street level Avengers. And I'm dying to see the team that fought besides cap in Civil War, talk to James, and size him up as the new Captain America. If Barnes is on the team and secretly working for stark, perhaps the whole team will be getting the same deal? that is if the SHRA isn't repealed.
Who the Iron Patriot is will only matter to me if something interesting is done with him in the beginning of Dark reign. If not, It'll be a mystery that I won't care much about. His being Osborn would be great...but then why is he wearing what looks to be Stark Tech? I would expect a more of a Goblin design if it were Osborn...at least a glider of some sort.

Wolverine is skinny and tall, that's the problem with him visually.
Also, it can't be X-23 or Dakken because they only have 2 claws.
I don't see any reason for Hawkeye to join up with the team.
He's already AWOL on NA, I don't see what would motivate him to join up with the government's team.
I agree that there is Norman = Iron Patriot, Bullseye = Hawkeye, Gargan = Spider-Man, Moonstone = Ms. Marvel...
Someone becoming Wolverine just seems weird though. I mean, what? They given the rigged gloves? Sounds silly and wholly unnecessary because he shouldn't really be a popular guy in the Marvel Universe so there is no reason to have a poser in his place. I almost want to say that it might actually be Wolverine, who was somehow assigned to the team through Stark's last bit of political clout and he was banned from putting an MA member on the team.

Ah.
Very...very good.
Feels like a lightbulb just went off in my head.
The Thunderbolts are disbanded but going by Bullseye's comments seem to indicate they are still under his employment going forward with the exception of Penance, Songbird and Radioactive Man (and possibly Swordsman).
Obviously Thunderbolts isn't getting canned so the next few months and what direction it goes in should be very interesting (five bucks says Songbird goes rogue and takes the name for her team).

So we'll have.... Thunderbolts (probably should just rename it Avengers:Thunderbolts), Avengers: The Initiative, Might Avengers, Dark Avengers, and New Avengers?
Creative make up, it sounds about right. Dan Slott: Mighty Avengers & Avengers: Initiative. Bendis: New Avengers & Dark Avengers (Horrendous as Bendis has been in my opinion lately).
Don't really know where Thunderbolts will fit in with that. My pipe dream hope is that Songbird joins up with Baron Zemo and they going "domestic terrorist heroes" on the world.
So we have...
Thunderbolts = Bad outlaw good guys.
Dark Avengers = Bad cop good guys
New Avengers = Good outlaw good guys
Mighty Avengers = Good cop good guys
Avengers Initiative = A mixture of them all.

Dark Avengers: Disgusting (but very addictive to read about) villians disguised as Avengers. Should be a fascinating experiment in ongoing Marvel titles.
It sounds like Thunderbolts but theres obviously no moral "I see the light" at the end of the tunnel for guys like Osborn and Bullseye, it's abit of a different situation, whereas The Thunderbolts were at war with itself as a concept, The Dark Avengers look firmly planted in...errr...darkness.
If they don't have a conscience on the team like a Songbird, this is going to be Ellis' vision of the Thunderbolts (With Osborn gaining incredible power and position in the process) to the extreme.
Terrifying idea for a team, I'm dying to see how this is going to work.

Yeah, that issue definitely helps (what seems to be) set the pieces into the puzzle.
Can the Venom symbiote mimic it's old look it adorned for Spider-Man?
I was always unsure of how it worked, I tended to assume the "monster" design was a permanent evolution of the suit/creature after Brock got ahold of it.

Maybe it is Daken he has 3 claws the third coming out of his forearm. We can't really see where the middle claw is coming from.
Well, there's also the fact that that wouldn't make any sense. 1) Daken is pretty much an unknown quantity to everyone (in the comic universe). 2) He has no reason to join and is occupied in another title. 3) Why would they have him pose as Wolverine when this difference in claws would clearly show that he is not Wolverine?
Dr. Chaos

I think after SI, Hawkeye will be motivated to do just about anything to screw over the establishment for letting this happen. In his earlier NA appearances, Clint was reserved and let things happen. Come SI #5 and Clint wants to kill anything that walks. I can see a whole change in motivation from Clint since SI, into an aggressive, belligerant, AVENGER.

Hel,l he shot a Skrull who was impersonating his wife, right in the face, AND killed the Skrull Queen. The guy is definitely a bit darker than we've seen him in a bit, which can happen after being killed and revived twice in a couple months.
I think he is the Hawkeye in the Dark Avengers image.
Wolverine was considered to be a bit to dark by cap at first but was let in at Tony's request. So it makes sense that the guy leading a Black ops X-men team could be on a 'Dark'er Avengers line up....though I really don't see how he has the time to appear in two solo monthlies 3 X-team books, show up in the back ground of other X-books, and be on two avengers teams. Hopefully he'll get off the line up of NA and just be in DA.
Venom has been portrayed as ahero to the public for some time, so it isn't a shock that he would be on a team like this...hopefully with nanobots still in his system.
As for who is wearing the Ms. Marvel outfit...she seemed depowered in the issue after her Secret Invasion tales, and was gunning for Osborn big time. She could be mad that her old identity was given to someone else

If what you say is correct in your spoiler, then I would like to see a Carol, like this, go up against Osborn. That would be so different for her, and the current Ms Marvel books lay the ground work to show Carol like this. She has been so badass.

Yeah, I also think that:
Iron Patriot = Norman Osborn
Venom = Venom
Hawkeye = Bullseye
Wolverine = Swordsman (or something new altogether)
Ms. Marvel = Moonstone
I'll bet we're going to see Songbird go join the "villains" a.k.a. the real Avengers or start a new Thunderbolts team made up of heroes.

11-21-2008, 01:10 AM
I could possibly see all the others being the Dark Avengers (Norman, Moonstone, Venom, and Bullseye), but that Wolverine still looks a lot more feminine than Deodato has drawn Andreas in the past. At this point I'm still thinking that is some kind of female stand in.
Top guesses: Lady Deathstrike (although the admittedly dark image looks like the standard forearm claws of Wolverine as opposed to her finger claws), or possibly Joystick (random guess, but she has TBolts ties and would be a good melee fighter- just replace her energy batons with energy claws instead).
Both women have ties to the TBolts. Deathstrike would be my leading contender, though, given both the TBolts ties and the Wolverine connection.
The thing that really makes me wonder, though, is why they would have a Dark Avengers title and a TBolts title. Unless they're completely planning on revamping the TBolts lineup more than we think (perhaps a new Zemo and Songbird TBolts team altogether?)
Diggle did mention that in a couple of issues everything was going to be completely shaken up.

Well, the new Thunderbolts could be a team put together by Songbird consisting of villains turned "heroes" that she trusts, like Mach-V, Atlas, Penance, Joystick . . . Or perhaps if the villains take the place of the heroes, we'll see some heroes take the place of the villains, taking the names and costumes of the Thunderbolts?

I didn't really think this would be an issue...
Wolverine still looks a lot more feminine than Deodato has drawn Andreas in the past.
Deathstrike would be my leading contender, though, given both the TBolts ties and the Wolverine connection
But looking at....

"What he does isn't very nice."
I'm guessing it's a guy.

If the picture is the right picture of Dark Avengers I see Wolvie, Venom (or maybe Spidy in Black due to the quote), hawkeye, Ironman in a new armor?, and Ms Marvel in a revised version of her old costume?. Just what I see. Seems to fit the quotes also.

Interesting. Based on that, I'd agree. Still think Andreas would be an odd choice, though. I suppose he could be wearing Andrea's skin as gloves to channel his powers through the claws... maybe.

that or Bullseye's the one posing as Wolverine and Andreas is Hawkeye. it's a toss up. i think Iron Patriot is Norman or Flash Thompson.

I really have no idea on who the fake Wolverine could be. I can't think of a single reason why anyone would make sense (or why it would make sense for it to be the real Wolverine). So unless they are misleading us with the "he" thing, the only thing I feel certain about is that he is a guy.
I also don't think Hawkeye is holding anything. Isn't that just that little loin cloth thingy that hangs over his balls? There is apparently just wind in the picture and its being blown in the same direction that his hand is at.

why would she trust Joystick? and how would creating another team of heroes be different from New Avengers, True Believers, Young Avengers, or Mighty Avengers?
I was just throwing out the names of past Thunderbolts who aren't homicidal, murderous nutjobs like her current teammates.
And creating a new team of heroes wouldn't be different, per say, but to rally those allies and perhaps join up with some current Avengers in the form of a new Mighty Avengers or New Avengers would be incredibly interesting. Imagine the Avengers working alongside people they consider villains and the whole group seen by the public as villains while the Thunderbolts take over and bastardize the names and costumes of heroes like Iron Man/Cap, Ms. Marvel, etc.?

Dark Avengers could be a mixture of villains and heroes.
Here is a quote from a Newsarama Brian Bendis interview about Dark Avengers.
NRAMA: Who are the Dark Avengers?
BMB: They're a lot of characters who have not been Avengers before. And some that have been. And some that I think will legitimately shock some people when they see it and how it comes to be.
He says some have not been Avengers before, and some have been Avengers before.

Yeah but he's great for talking out of his ass in interviews. Don't trust anything that guy says in an interview.

True.
He's implied that a poster that guessed that these are former members of The Thunderbolts (Swordsman, Bullseye, Moonstone, Gargan, etc) is wrong but I would bet good money it is them and Bendis' remarks (on his board) and the Marvel article are a way to take people off the trail.
The hints seem to lean more towards the stolen identities than they do the actual people behind them.
I understand why someone would want to keep something as creepy/shocking as Bullseye becoming an Avenger a secret but I really hate it when writers lie to the fans in attempt to keep the illusion of surprise so hopefully he isn't trying to pull one over on people and won't come out saying "I wasn't lying! Thats not Bullseye and Venom! Thats Hawkeye and Spider-Man!" after Secret Invasion or something cute like that.
