Reed. Sue. Ben. Johnny. These will always be the Fantastic Four. But over the years other characters substituted for one or more of the originals. There were times that there were five members. And other times someone hung out for awhile and maybe was almost made a member. So of these characters, which one was the most interesting and/or had the most potential as a member of the FF?

As usual with your polls, none of the above: Impossible Man is the appropriate choice.
I wonder how much research and actual reading you do before you post all these poll threads.

The Impossible Man was a nuisance, not a member. I'd say the poll works well enough for the purpose of the thread. She-Hulk was my favorite choice, as she really grew as a character in the FF. The Avengers helped her overcome being a joke, but Shulkie really came to life under Byrne!
With that said, though, I still think fondly of Crystal & Medusa's turns in the FF. Both were very worthy subs, particularly Crystal. IIRC, wasn't Crystal capable of fending off Magneto long enough for Reed to carry out his master plan? Medusa was likewise capable and smart.
I liked Sharon, too--then came the debacle of "She Thing". *groans*

I was disappointed that Sharon's only recent appearance was really a Skrull. I wonder if she is still staying out West with Wyatt Wingfoot?

I wonder how much research and actual reading you do before you post all these poll threads. The poll covers all the notable alternates save H.E.R.B.I.E. or the New FF.
The only thing it needs is an "other" option.

Well, I would've voted for H.E.R.B.I.E. had he been on there but instead I voted for Crystal.
Shouldn't Black Panther and Storm be on that list too?
I have to say that this poll does seem to have some glaring omissions.

Given more poll options, I would have included HERBIE, Alternate FF, Impossible Man, Thundra, Tigra, The Brute, and Other. Since I've read every Impossible Man appearance ever in FF, I don't think any further research was needed, but I apologize if my polls or offensive in any way.

Just for argument sake....Who would you have taken off my poll to include the Impossible Man? Or better yet, given 10 options...who would you have put? Believe me, not trying to be hostile, just interested.

Anybody who was with the team for at least a year should automatically be on the list. Characters who were only around for a single story arc are iffy choices. If anything, I would have made the poll choices list a little shorter.

Damn, I didn't pay attention that it's a multiple choice poll. I voted Crystal, but I would have added She-Hulk as well.
But Crystal remains my #1 choice. I liked the couple Johnny-Crystal - best shown in the great Alan Davis mini-series (FF: The End). Reed and Sue, Ben and Alicia, Johnny and Crystal - the perfect happy end for me.

While I'll be first to confess there are large swaths of the Fantastic Four I've neve read (including many or most of the replacements), but in my mind She-Hulk is the only person on the team to have replaced a member of the core-four and made it felt like a natural replacement.
I'd say Crystal is probably my #2 choice though.

lulz. I voted for all of them. But I really enjoy Lyja, Sharon, Jenn, Crys, Kristoff, Ant-Man and Namor.

Well, I voted for She-Hulk, because of all of them, she had the more ... interesting stories done with her while she was there. Crystal and Medusa, I didn't think of them as really ... individuals, Power Man wasn't there long enough to really matter except as a pawn of the Puppet Master, Ms. Marvel was kind of ... well, she would have been my second choice based off of what Englehart did with her, Ant-Man ... nah. Boring. Kristoff Vernard ... ditto for me, Lyja Lazerfist ... meh, Namor ... I keep thinking of him as an FF foe, and Frankie Raye ... was she ever really a member of the FF? Wasn't she more of a hanger-on?

Storm and Black Panther would be on there. Ant-Man never accepted membership. Kristoff was denied it. they just happen to be around for the adventures.

lol That's okay. It sucks. I know from experience. You end up not having enough room for someone's favorites. That's why my dream is to become a mod, create a thread over in my board and then ram it into whatever board I wanna post it in, because Mod's can make them larger than 10.

Point, although I did want to include everyone who actually joined. Namor, Lyja, and Kristoff definitely could have been left off. I had Panther and Storm in my original plan, but somehow spaced them when I did the post. Arg!

She was a hanger on, sometime between 160 and 190.

Don't sweat it. Now that I realize i left out T'Challa and Storm, I feel stupid anyway. Arghhh!

Never officially joined. Johnny was pushing for it, and it probably would have happenned if Galactus hadn't shown up that day...
Storm and Black Panther would be on there. Ant-Man never accepted membership. Kristoff was denied it. they just happen to be around for the adventures.
Y'know, I didn't think Ant Man had accepted membership, but when looking at the FF profile, it listed him as a member, so I went with it. But those things screw up Avengers lists constantly, so with the FF alumni list getting bigger slowly, I guess it was a matter of time before they messed that up too!
But you are right, I came across as a prick, and feel bad about it. Need to think what to say before I post.
Really, its ok! I have a lousy track record with that sort of thing, maybe worse. Back in 1996 I was new on the internet. I thought I knew more about the Avengers than anyone. The Marvel Forums were on AOL at the time. I started posting on the Avengers boards. There was this guy, JRivera000 who everyone called "The Sage" because of his Avengers knowlege. I immediately called him out on it, and of course, about 20 people on the board ganged up on me. It was ugly at first, but one by one, I started becoming friends with these people. JRivera and I were constantly testing each other's knowlege, and I eventually conceded that he was indeed "The sage". Most of the others were pretty awed that I could hold my own with him though. (My then wife started posting shortly after me, and as one of 2 female regular posters, she became popular. We didn't let on that we knew each other. When people found out, they nicknamed us "The Spouses". ) With Heroes Return coming, Kurt Busiek started posting, and I tried arguing some details of Avengers history with him. Well, I have to say, any point I didn't agree with him on at the time, I was forced to agree with later, because it was incorporated into his runs on Ironman and Avengers (although I will still argue Jocasta's membership status).
A sad footnote to this is that JRivera died 3 days after Avengers Vol 3 #1 came out, a book he had eagerly anticipated. I regret he and I never got to discuss the issue. I held a chatroom online memorial for him (there were two actually) and each time the chatroom was full. They soon got rid of those boards, and the Avengers posters went on to form an Avengers mailer.
She-Hulk was great in FF, btw. I wish she had played more a role in the story where Ben returned to the team.

What about Dr Doom?
I know he didn't officially join, but he did take Reed's place in a number of issues.

Although never technically members, I loved the Spider-Man/Hulk/Wolverine/Ghost Rider team.
The issue where they fight the FF to bring Johnny Storm in and Wolverine ends up slashing Thing's face was one of my first comics.

I certainly think Ant Man deserves a spot on the last. Even though he never "officially" jointed the team, he actually did take the place of Reed in the book for an extended period of time, including going out on missions and such.
