I keep reading these cartoons from the late 80's (89) called
Cherry Poptart which are adult based. Can anybody name
another comic which is as popular and similar? Something
which is an industry icon like Cherry Poptart. I really
know nothing about comics except for Veronika
Thanks.

While not as satirical as CHERRY POPTART, Kate Worley and Reed Waller's OMAHA THE CAT DANCER has a much more sophisticated storyline and gobs of explicit sex, abeit between anthopomorphic humanoid animals. Highly recommended, even without the xxx scenes.

Also, depending upon your tastes, Fantagraphics' Eros Comics imprint may have something to your liking.

I checked out the Eros Comics website and i found old cherry
comics but i couldnt find anything which compared to her or
Veronika. the stuff they were selling tended to be more serious
the way it was drawn. I am looking for something which looks
like josie and the pussycats. Something drawn cute which looks
like the word 'bubbles'
Can you suggest anything else?
Thanks.

Well, again, I would echo Scott's suggestion of Omaha: The Cat Dancer. That sounds exactly like the sort of thing you're looking for.

Hmm - can you be more explicit. I read the summary online
but i couldnt figure out - is the cat dancer complety animals
acting like humans being erotic or does it have humans in it
too?
Thanks.

Try Phil Foglio's XXXENOPHILE or Colleen Coover's SMALL FAVORS -- both are very cute and cartoony sex comics.

All the characters are animals, but this has very little impact on the story. The characters behave exactly like humans, and hardly even seem aware of the fact that they're animals. The creators have explicitly stated that they don't think Omaha belongs to the furry genre, and that they aren't interested in exploring the implications of the characters being animals.
Also, I would give Omaha my highest recommendation. It's a sensitive and deep piece of work, which also happens to include some great sex.

Demi the Demoness might also be worth checking out.

Dan DeCarlo is the cartoonist who created the "house style" for Archie Comics, the style that CHERRY POPTART's creator, Larry Weltz, appropriated for his pornographic series. Fantagraphics has published three books of DeCarlo's work: an excellent career overview written by my friend Bill Morrison and two collections of Dan's gag cartoons originally done for various men's magazines. There's nothing too explicit in 'em, but all three books have lots of Dan's cute female characters in some rather provocative states of undress.
I also think you'd dig Jordi Bernet's CLARA, about a cute cartoony prostitute. It's great stuff, although not xxx.

While i was looking up Clara i came across two more names
which i have never heard of before. Can anybody give me any
information on cartoons possibly named 'Bettie Page' and 'Julia
Roberts'?
Thanks.

You might like Little Annie Fannie, too.

Image's The Pro is probably worth looking at, too. Ditto, if you don't mind a manga influence (which I generally do, to be honest, but Adam Warren does a pretty decent job), for Dark Horse's Empowered.

Seconded. These are the finest porno comics in all the land.
Bill Willingham's 'Ironwood' should probably be number 3, I'd say.

Bettie Page is probably a recent effort to capitalize on the interested in 1950s nude model Betty Page that was "rediscovered" by a comics publisher/creator.
She certainly was unique and striking. There have been various efforts to publicize the photos of her that still exist. I have a set of "trading cards" which are basically reduced size photos of her in various poses.
Her star faded in the late 50s/early 60s and she has lived in relative obscurity until being "rediscovered" in the late 80s and 90s.
The Cherry Poptart series is probably an adult version of "Betty and Veronica"...the girls from the long long running Archie in Riverdale gang.
Also, I agree that if you're looking for explicit sexual romps, "Ironwood" sprang to mind. I might also suggest that you take a look for Howard Chakin's "Thick Black Kiss" or try to hunt up a few of the 12 individual issues. They are only about 8 pages thin in each issue, and there were specifically two version printed... An A version and B version. I don't recall which one was the rated PG version, but the only difference was that clothes were inked onto the nude bodies from the B version. Therefore, you had two issues that were identical in plot, artwork and lettering... but one was explicit, and one was "cleaned up" for more tame tastes. However the tale (a mystery) was extremely adult and a thumping good one, if you'll excuse my stealing a line from HP's Hagrid.

Largely due to bloody excellent comics artist, the late, great Dave Stevens, who used her as the model for the female lead in 'The Rocketeer'. So there's definitely a comics link.

I've got the original series, but this is the first I've heard of a censored version--unless it's the 3 issue "Big Black Kiss" (GCD shows the covers, but is taking forever to load the issue descriptions)

I've never heard of a censored version either.
As far as I know, Thick Black Kiss and the various incarnations of Big Black Kiss are all just different printings of the series in trade format.
