View Full Version : Superman/Daredevil hearing.

I was thinking, because Superman's hearing is so advanced should'nt he be able to move and especially sense/hear people the same way Daredevil does?
Or does he already?
(I'm kinda new to superman!!)

He doesn't do it very often, but there've been times he was blinded by a foe, and battled using his super-hearing. He only used it in the immediate vicinity, but I imagine he could use it for miles around, since he could hear a mosquito flapping its wings in Texas while he was on the moon.
No contest. :)

Remember Red Son, where everyone feared speaking against Superman because Big Brother Really Was Watching You? He could hear everything, see everything... a clever use of his powers.

Superman has been blinded on a couple of occassions and has had to rely on his hearing to get him through. That said, Superman has his sight and thus he doesn't have to function like Daredevil, who is blind, but relies on his radar sense to get around. Clark uses his hearing and vision powers in unison.

Vision powers? You mean things like he can see fast moving objects as well as x-ray and heat vision, right?
That kind of brings me to other question i wanted to ask.
I know superman i'snt a specially trained martial artist or something , but he should be able to fight well against someone who is because logically he should be able to see and hear everything they do at his level of super-speed, because a punch is a punch and kick is a kick no matter how skilled someone is.
What do you guys think?
I kinda was thinkin' about this a while back and wanted to see what other poeple thorght.

Yeah, and the Flash should be able to combine the powers of the speedforce and travel through time in an instant and make one of his punches millions of times stronger than anyone else's, because he's combining millions of punches per second into one blow; he should be able to dodge/predict opponent's actions so accurately that they can never hurt him. That said, it's comics; stuff doesn't work that way. Superman w/ Martial Arts would be awesome though.
Peace.

I think Julius Schwartz realized that back in the Bronze Age. Didn't they make one of the Phantom Zone criminals a Kryptonian martial artist? She was just as mighty as Superman, and knew the equilavent of Kung Fu.
It'd be like a normal-sized man going against a female martial artist. No contest.

Superman can see people moving at super speed, so long as he is moving to keep up. Such as moving a super speed to see and talk to Supergirl or one of the Flashes. He doesn't have speed vision. He has X-ray vision, telescopic vision, infra-red, microscopic and soul vision. Though the last one isn't used much. He can see radio frequencies. Heat vision is just intense heat emitted from his eyes which can melt objects.
That kind of brings me to other question i wanted to ask.

Against a normal person, martial arts does nothing to him. He can out move them. Against someone who is capable of matching his speed, then he'll have trouble because it'd be the same without super speed.

I think Faora is the one you're refering to.

If he has'nt got speed vision then how can he see and catch bullets?
He's done that quite a few times i thinks.
And also if he's got such advanced eyes that are capable of heat and x-ray vision, i find it really hard to believe that he can't see fast moving objects when he's standing still.

Yeah, you're right about who I was thinkin' of, Mat! :) Thanks!
Oh, and Superman DOES have speed-vision and hearing! On at least ONE occasion, he'd see Flash moving at super-speed when no one else could, and at least once, he'd hear something Flash said no one else around could translate!

What happens is when he knows that a gun will go off, he decides on what to do with it. If he is going to stand there and let the bullets bounce off, then he'll quickly make sure now one will get hit and then tense the muscles in his chest to better deflect the bullets. When he has to catch one, then he moves at super speed to the point where he moves faster than the bullet. Then he can deflect it or catch it, depending on his mood. The best example of this visually would be the bullet time effects in the Matrix films and various episodes of "Smallville".
In fact, here's an example. A video clip from Youtube.

He can. He just has to move at super speed to see them.

He can speed up his body without having to run or fly fast. He doesn't have a vision that allows this. It would've been mentioned and it hasn't. Not in 70 years. He can hear what the Flash said because he has superhearing. He can hear what everyone else cannot on their own.

I think i'm starting to agree with you. It kinda makes more sense.
Do you think he starts moving like that (like you say) in every fight he has?

I suppose his vision and hearing powers to give him an advantage in a fight because he can see and hear muscles moving when no one else can, but unless he's trained himself to know what these tiny muscle movements eventually lead up to, possible but not exactly likely, it won't help him in a fight against people of his own speed range. Against people slower than him, being punched a thousand times per second generally does the trick.

Depends on the situation. When weapons are involved and innocents are in the way, he moves at super speed to protect everyone. Against foes who can take the punishment he dishes out, he'll strike hard, but he won't throw multiple punches like the Flash does. Otherwise, he'll move at super speed to confuse certain individuals. Going in and out or to keep them from running away.

Superman hasn't trained his superhearing to make it work like Daredevil does.
Speaking of which, is there any Superman/Daredevil crossover?

I seem to recall a scene in the Superman Animated Series when Clark questioned a suspected killer and was able to determine his innocence by listening to his pulse and heartbeat in a manner very similar to Daredevil. (I think he also used his vision powers in this case too)

Nope. Only Batman has had that distinction. Clark has met the FF and the Silver Surfer, as well as Spider-Man and the Hulk. All in solo stories, not the "JLA/Avengers" or "DC Vs Marvel" ones.

Speaking of Kryptonian martial arts. I read about some Superman stories were Superman learned and mastered Kryptonian martial arts and then teached them to Lois. Is that still the case?

I don't know about that. I know that he utilized a Kryptonian meditation type technique that would allow him to fight certain individuals, but in a dream like state. Otherwise, Clark just throws punches at random. Lois knows martial arts from a self defense class and what some of her father's soldiers taught her growing up.

It's been done. During the OWAW era, IIRC.

Nope. The martial art was Klurkor, but that was during the Silver Age. Who knows? Maybe Geoff Johns will bring that back.
