I hope people read the message instead of just snapping to the title, because as a Hulk fan I just want to express something I fear is going to happen.

I am worried that Loeb is basically trying to write a "Joker" character for Hulk, in the way that Rulk just shows and starts causing havoc just for the sake of it to write interesting stories.

Meaning that in Loeb's run, we will never find out who or what Red Hulk his until some other writer takes over many years down the line and puts his spin on it.

My problem if this is the way to go is not the concept but the execution. The Joker (and others like him) are so well written and have so much of a contrast quirk that they stand out thus not needing for any background to make a dynamic interesting.

The problem with Rulk if they decide to go this rout is that as Loeb put it: He is just everything that the Green Hulk is not, to a tee. This just to me comes off as lazy writing. The Hulk has had some very good, well written villains and I think he not only deserves more of those but deserves better than this.

Uh...yea. Hope everyone understood my view weather you agree or not.

There's going to be some identity and motive involved. It's been teased to much, and Loeb loves his mysteries too much. Whether or not that will leave you satisfied is another story, but I don't think Rulk will simply be.

i like how you use Lobe instead of it's proper spelling... good way to throw off the haters.

and no. the thing with the joker is that they never really did a whole mystery of "who is the Joker?" thing. while they are doing that with Rulk. it seems clear that the identity of Rulk is part of the story, whereas with the joker it never was.

I totally agree with your penultimate sentence. While I think there's nothing original about Rulk whatsoever, that deosn't mean he could not be used a lot better than Loeb's currently doing with his lazy writing.

Anyway, this mystery that Loeb's built is not conducive to the creation of Joker-esque character. There's been too much surrounding the "who" aspect of Rulk, and because of the nature of Gamma spawn and the clues info from Hulk #3 (the SHEILD retina scan), we pretty much know there's a dual character involved, one who (to an extent) is known to the MU.

On the other hand, rolling with the gist of your argument, perhaps a better analogy would have been Hobgoblin. To me, Hobgoblin fits much better with your concerns than Joker does.

Good point.

It is just like, they have potential for a good character idea but it is too heavy to get off the runway.
