The fact is there are people out there who have proven to be very resistant to infection -- they figured out that the genetic predilection interfered with HIV's ability to bind at a certain receptor and now we have dugs that can take advantage of it. However, it is not a cure obviously because HIV stays deep inside the body and reinfects when the person is vulnerable.

As for total cell elimination, they have tried this approach before but usually the patient died from the radiation and procedure before the transplant took hold. This is great if it turns out they were able to eliminate all the reservoir HIV cells in the marrow and he remains healthy but i think we need to wait to see if he stays HIV free. I am cautiously optimistic. It sounds like they didn't realize they had transplanted resistant marrow and hopefully they can learn how to repeat it. Maybe a different genetic mutation? EDIT: They intentiionally went for the mutation --- cool!

Anyhoots with Obama taking down the stem cell research ban i happily see movement in this area.

The point of my long post is, it is not a hoax but in line with a thread of research that has been going on for years. See amfar below...

As you can see this isn't a real cure for the reasons i cited above: the stem cell reservation problem and the donor problem. Most patients wouldn't survive the transplant anyway which is why they stopped doing this after the early tries in the late 80s. The cost too is insane but who cares in the end right.

Eh even assuming its true, its at least 5 years before they can even consider taking it to market. Nice to know that cures are being worked on though cause if a vaccine makes it to market first there would be no business drive to create an outright cure.
