Okay in a recent Supergirl/Superman mini Superman flew from Earth to the edge of the Andromeda galaxy.

A feat that is millions of times light-speed.

May question is does Superman still fly in normal space or does he shift into hyperspace?

What comic was that? That's actually a really good question. Technically Superman should always use a spaceship in my opinion. Like in Superman TAS or Superman Returns.

Another thing that I'm wondering, when Superman is in space far away from the sun, like in the Legion of Superheroes, how is he able to use his superpowers? I imagine some parts of space are too far away from yellow suns for it to be able to sustain his power.

That used to be something of a problem in the Silver Age, although they usually got around it by saying that he planned his route to take him near only yellow suns. If no sun at all was nearby, he still seemed okay--no explanation given. Since the Byrne reboot, of course, Superman has been able to operate for several days without sunlight, running on stored power like a human battery.

However, with so many Silver Age concepts returning, I've no idea if that is still the case.

I was under the notion that his body stored solar energy that it took time before his powers were completely drained..... Hmmm guess someone got to it before me....

As far as I'm aware Superman is inifinitely fast in space as he is often depicted as capable of interstellar travel...

One instace he was to take Darkseid from Earth to the Sourcewall in matter of seconds without the aide of a boomtube....

When Superman normally travels through space, he doesn't enter hyperspace on his own accord. He has to have something to pull him through. It varies from writer to writer these days. Following his sun dip in "Our Worlds At War", Clark began to fly faster and faster than normal. Geoff Johns and Kurt Buisek have tried to get Clark back down to normal flight speed where he has to rely on starship for interstellar travel. He's fast enough to reach the moon before a baseball that he struck on Earth got there, but not enough to go to Bizarro World or even to where Brainiac was. Jimmy Palmotti and Justin Gray are relying on a Superman who doesn't need vehicles.
