Zenkichi isn't actually a boxer, though, is he? I though he just spent some time in their club, just like he did in all the martial arts clubs except judo.
Anyway, I hope Medaka saving them won't become a habit. She's really the most interesting in situations emphasizing the limitations of her genius, as opposed to her just pwning everyone and everything.
He not really a boxer but he did impress the other members of the club with his skill and he has a hell of a punch.

I've been watching Welcome to the NHK recently. As a bit of a slacker myself, it's like looking into a sort of particularly brilliant mirror, and in that way is both depressing and cathartic.
Every have a stretch of time in your life where you just sat around waiting for something to happen, dwelling on the past and how it led you to your current state full of broken dreams? That's pretty much the life of the shut-in protagonist, a hikkikomori (aka NEET, 'no employment, education, or training') in denial that's convinced that world's against him in a grand conspiracy to keep him down and out of success.
This displacement is a major theme of the series, and watching him struggle through compromising with his past and working towards moving up is moving, relatable, a bit sad, a bit funny. Interesting show.

I finally got around to reading the latest part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. It really says something that despite being the longest running manga it still has some of the more original fight scenes and powers. Also Gyro's Steel Balls crack me up.
On the anime department I have started watching Umineko, which has been cool so far. I probably like it better than Higurashi.

Just watched episodes 1 and 2 of Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari. I went in with zero expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Has a real Tenchi meets El Hazard meets Escaflowne feel. Episode 1 started in the middle of things, but episode 2 pulled back a little to do a lot of world building. The series feels familiar yet fresh. Kenshi's harem is also looking like it will be even better than Seina's.
However, I've been unable to find a full copy of Episode 1. All streams I've found end at 42 minutes and 20 some odd seconds. This appears to be a few minutes short, as it cuts out long before the credits started, and based on how episode 2 started, Kenshi must have had formal introductions with the group.

Watched episodes 3 and 4 of Saint Knight, which is all that has been subbed so far. Episode 5 and 6 are out raw though. Looks like the large cast of protagonists is being divided up into small groups of conspirators with their own agendas.
We learn a few Tenchi Muyo specific things in episode 4:
Kenshi hasn't been told how special his family is, since he is 15 and Yosho usually waits until their family reaches 17-18 before revealing everything.
Ryoko has taken Kenshi for rides through space on Ryo-ohki many times throughout his childhood.
Kenshi is really good at construction because of Noboyuki, he's really good at chores and cooking because of instruction from Sasami. He's good at combat because he's been trained by Yosho.
Washu hypnotized Kenshi so that he wouldn't conciously grasp the oddities of his family--such as them possessing their own private space ships--thereby insuring that he would be less likely to spill the beans to others.
Kenshi wears a pendant with a stone in it, which is revealed to be a fragment of Ryo-Ohki given to him by Ryoko. Obviously this will play a big role.

Well, Komori is safe. So is Abiru (her mania is relatively small and only harmful to herself). And Kanako. And Ai (although I guess she'd get very annoying after a while). And Nami. And Harumi (again, her weirdness is tolerable and largely harmless).
It's just that the others more than make up for it, in spades (literally, in Chiri's case).

Mostly they increase the amount of fan-service by like 70%, focus on the humor instead of the increasingly serious themes of the manga, rearrange certain story arcs and add their own as well.

Slayers has increased fanservice in the anime? Wha--? Other than Naga (who was much riskier in the books anyway), and that 5 seconds long bath scene in Next, it has next to no fanservice (of the sexual kind) at all. Unless you mean the fanservice of keeping the fanfavorite regulars around even after the novels sent them away. (Personally, I don't want to lose Amelia and Zel either, although I still want to see an animated Luke and Millerna).

I'm finding it to be... average so far. Not the best harem show ever, but neither a Kanokon-level stinker. I like the snow woman and the little witch (Yukari, was her name?).
From what I've read of the manga in TV Tropes, it's either full of heartwaming or wangst. It depends on how do they handle the situations I've read about.

I believe the "fanservice" he's referring to is the fact that the anime is much more comedy-oriented than the original novels(which, while humorous, were overall more serious and darker in tone when compared to the anime or manga).

The thing about Slayers was mostly geared towards the "Rearranges story arcs and adds their own" thing, but yes there is a slight gear towards the fanservice and comedy in the anime.
Take, for instance, Marta (or whatever her name was) in Slayers Next, who doesn't exist in the novels, and the two fundamental elements of her character are that she's a bumbling joke of a rival, and that she's the second most underdressed character after Naga (who isn't in the tv series to a great extent anyways).
And the comedy in the novels seemed to be more geared towards flipping cliche's on their ends or breaking the fourth wall in regards to tropes, whereas the anime was a bit more focused on sight gags like Lina and Goury stuffing their faces (which is in the novels, but usually just a mention that they've ordered a ton of stuff).
The rearranging of stuff is plainly obvious. The incident with the Masked Mazoku and the Immortal Mage happened before Copy Rezo, and therefore before Zel and Amelia were part of the group, and the masked guy wasn't with Gaav in the battle in that valley; instead, Gaav's priest and general were still alive. Ragna Blade and Xellos came after the fight with those Mazoku in Amelia's kingdom, and all the filler episodes added in between.

Ranma 1/2. Urusei Yatsura, although it's mostly a parody of the harem genre than a straight example. Oh my Goddess, although it's more of a Pseudo-Harem than an actual harem. Saber Marionette J. El Hazard. Tenchi Muyo, of course. Martian Successor Nadesico.
Love Hina is so influential in the genre because it was the first 'big' pure harem comedy. Most of the big names of harem that came before were mostly action/adventure with harem elements thrown in, and LH was the first one to put on the map the out-and-out romantical hijinks with the fights and action as a *background* element behind the sentimental shaenigans.

Love Hina was originally intended to have more action, but his editor seeing how well his other harem series had done insisted on him doing a harem comedy. With Negima Akamatsu finally managed to do what he really wanted.

For me Rosario + Vampire is the first harem series where I actually cared about the harem part, even if who Tsukune will end up with is very obvious. With other harem series it's always something else that attracts me.
With to-Love-ru, Ranma½ and Nagasarete Airantou it's the humor.

It was kinda the other way for me. I didn't really care about any of the characters, which is usually what kinda kills the reading for me.
Also, all chapters I read went pretty much the same, the concept didn't appeal to me much. it wasn't very funny, and I didn't think the art was much to look at either.
So basically, it neither impressed, intrigued nor amused me to any great extent, and if a manga can't pull at least one of those off before chapter five or so, I tend to drop it,

And it IS a monster-a-week type of story at the beginning. But once they get to the battle with the student council and Tsukune gets injected with vampire blood the story really starts to develop and grow. The first series had a balance problem between the humor and the seriousness, which could be a little over-dramatic. The secodn series is overall superior in that regard and pretty much everything else.

Oh, come on! That guy has glasses, so obviously it's a totally different person.
I've just read first 15 chapters of Kyoukai no Rinne manga by Rumiko Takahashi and I have to say it's pretty good for now. For sure better than Inuyasha and maybe even than Ranma1/2.
The premise is rather typical for Rumiko, normal girl meets unusual boy and get involved in his adventures (geez it's like the She cant think of anything else  ) . This time th girl name is Sakura Mamiya and the boy is Rokudou Rinne and he is human-shinigami hybrid (what's up with Takahashi and hybrids anyway). I don want to spoil you much so I will only say that Rinne helps ghosts get to the other side and people form his school deal with the problem those ghosts who cant do that cause.... for a small offering of money and food that is. Since you see Rokudou is always short on money (and is one cheap bastard) which is sort of a running gag.
Oh and in recent chapter new character showed up: boy who holds petty grudge against Rokudou because of unimportant incident that happened years ago, if that's remind you of anything you are right.
On thing that is original in Rin-Ne (compared to previous Takahashi works) are two main characters who look like all previous ones.... but really aren't.
Sakura isn't treating Rokudou like her personal punching bag every time she's angry. Heck she don't get constantly angry, she's you know calm and nice (for a change) and treats Rokudou with respect and sympathy.
Rokudou himself is also way different form say... Inuyasha or Ranma. He's not a jerk, he's rather nice fellow though rather serious and aloof most of the time. He usually works for the money but you can see that he wants to help both his clients and the ghosts. He don't hide his emotions under a though guy facade and showed gratitude and compassion. He also don't treat Sakura like and idiot he has to deal with and allow her to help him with his work instead saying she gets in the way or something like that.
Oh and there's the fact that nothing force them to even talk with each other, they imply became fast friends.
OK. I will end it here since I cant write nothing more without major spoilers so I will only say that I recommend this manga to anyone and especially to Takahashi fans, supernatural fans, and investigation story fans .
If you have different opinion feel free to argue.

Personally, I think it's really a bit early to be making that kind of judgment. We've basically seen the introductory chapters and the story hasn't properly started yet. It's hard to tell what we can expect from it once it gets going.
Though, I will say that it felt closer to Inuyasha in terms of mood and style then it did to Ranma½.

I'm on an anime diet right now of nothing Bleach, Naruto, and Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 (the latters not really shonen so feel free to recommend whatever) for there's is really nothing too good out there at the moment. Are any Gurren Laganns or Death Notes or Karu: Phantoms Memories I'm missing out on? I've been out of the anime loop for a while so let me know what your watching and what I may have missed!

I noticed the drop in Naruto too. I think they're letting these quieter episodes go with crap animation because they've got too many big fights that they want to use the high budget stuff on.
They used it for one episode of Deidara vs. Sasuke. Within a month or so we're gonna have Pein vs. Jiraiya, and they'll probably use the high animation for at least 1 episode of that, and immediately following that, we have Sasuke vs. Itachi, which again, will probably use the high budget for at least one episode.

Bleach seems to have a better handle at keeping the animation consistent. Some episode are noticeable nicer looking than others, but even then the quality doesn't drop as sharply as Naruto's does from one episode to the next.

Bleach does have a better animation budget than Naruto. Even when comparing the high quality stuff, Hisagi vs. the Crab Claw Arrancar blows away most of the high quality fights in Naruto.
Its unfortunate, but hey, anime has always struggled with budget. Unless your name is Production IG or, to a slightly lesser extent, Studio Bones or Madhouse, chances are you are going to scrounging for short cuts in your tv productions.

I know but when I went to onemanga to look it up the artisty looked completely different. So mush so I'm almost convinced whoever did the opening chapters is not the same artist who drew that wonderful pic posted above. In all likelihood I am wrong but the difference ii immediatly noticeable.
Really? I don't see much difference between chapter 1 and chapter 20, aside from it having become slightly less cluttered and more stylized.
In general, though, the art of any manga is going to improve pretty drastically from the first chapter and on, even with mangaka who've already finished one or several works before. I think it simply takes a while to "get used" to a new series.
(I've seen a few manga where I actually hated the art early on, but that I stuck with because I knew it would get better.)

I also like Kazeshini - mostly because he looks like a KH Heartless, or possibly some kind of Bizarro Nightcrawler. And a fight between him and Hollow Ichigo would kick ass.
Come to think of it, Hisagi's relationship with Kazeshini seems to kinda mirror Ichigo's relationship with his hollow.

All right, here's three more entries for some manga that I've read that I would recommend to people.
Shina Dark - In one world, there is a powerful demon known as Shina, whom countless tales of spoken of. He is so feared that over 1000 girls were sent to his small island as concubines in other to please him so each country that sent them would not be destroyed by his wrath.
However, it turns out that a good deal of the stories were exaggerated. While Shina is powerful, he is not evil as the stories claim (or at least, he isn't now,) and has no intentions of making any of the girls his concubines. In order to take care of the girls who can no longer return to their homelands, thanks to the stigma of being near Shina, he decides to turn his island into a country for them.
Hoshi no Samidare, aka "The Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer" - Another story where the things don't turn out normally. In this one, the main character is chosen by a magically lizard of sorts to become a knight and protect a Princess from an evil mage who plans to the destroy the planet. Unfortunately for the lizard, the main character has no intentions until he meets said princess who turns out to be more powerful than most of her knights, but plans to destroy the world after saving it, which prompts the main character to join her for the same reason.
Psycho Staff - This one is a bit like The Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer...mainly because it's written by the same mangaka. In Psycho Staff, Hiiragi Kouichi receives what he believes is a love letter, however, upon arriving at the designated place, the girl who wrote it, Sakuragi Umeko, turns out to be an alien who wants to recruit Kouichi into the Psycho Staff; a military group on another planet. Why exactly Kouichi? Because he's a psychic, a rather powerful one at that. Much to Umeko's surprise, he can control his powers rather well despite being such a rare case, but unfortunately, he has no intentions of joining her.

I gotta say that Yuji has the most screwed case of schizophrenia since Fei from Xenogears.
So, if I understand this properly, The Snake of Festival is essentially Evil Yuji in the distant future, who went back in time to create the Bal Masque. He is then sealed along with Jonah within the Reiji Maigo that lies dormant within his present self. And all for the purpose of....what? Scoring Shana?I mean, what? Did he have to kill Shana in the future since she wouldn't join his side, so he went back in time in order to convince her again? Or maybe her death is what drove him insane? In any case, even in the future, Yuji is dense as lead even as an evil, Machievellian omnipotent maniac possessed by a decidedly psychotic Crimson God.
God, even Hollow Ichigo, Kyuubi and Satan would look at SoF and say, "What the hell, man!"

As I understand it, it's because the Snake of Festival is slowly intermingling his personality with Yuji's, subtly corrupting him. Blutsauger also may have been the catalyst for Yuji's change.

Good question. I'm of the opinion that it has something to do with Shana or maybe the insanity that Torches go through when they discover they don't technically exist caught up with him. Sure, Yuji maintains a optimistic attitude about his existence, but it's also fatalistic one as well.
Or maybe SoTF already did exist inside of him(Yuji of the original timeline) as an original entity and this is just another example of Causality Loop. (God, time-travel complicates things)
I'm just hoping Yuji snaps out of it soon. Seeing him as the surprise main villain is awesome but also extremely disturbing.

I just started up reading Knights, a relatively new Manga I guess, with only 18 chapters on Onemanga. If anyone is looking for a swords and sorcery type thing, this one looks like it could be interesting.
I've skimmed through the first chapter, and liked what I saw. Art Style is a lot different thant what you'd be used to compared with Bleach or Naruto, but the artwork is actually pretty good and the scenery is always well done and present in every cell.
The main character is a young black man who became a squire (Knight Apprentice), but most of the world is ruled by an oppressive church and their doctrine that anything that is or wears the color black is demonic (I'm not sure where he got his squire title from), so while outside he usually wears a mask. But because of his armor he is still known as the black knight. He apparently knows the truth behind the conspiracy of the witchunts, and he and a sorcerer named Euphemia (hot girl wearing one of the skimpiest outfits I've ever seen), go around rescuing the girls who are wrongly occused of witchcraft before they can be executed. One such girl is Nina, a member of a fallen noble family who doesn't judge Mist (main character) when she sees his face, and develops some kind of crush on him (Pretty sure, but hard to tell from just one chapter).

...Damn, that manga is way darker then it seems at first glance. oO
I'm not sure how much I like it, honestly. On one hand, it's admittedly pretty good. On the other, something about it just pisses me off for some reason. Maybe it's the lack of likable villains. Especially since they went and killed off Anise, who was the only one I thought actually showed promise.
Mist is a bit... well, I guess I don't find him very interesting. He's mostly just serious and kills people. Fun to see German Longsword in a manga, though.
Euphemia almost manages to take the fanservice into the realm of actual parody. Other then that, she's kinda annoying, possibly because she's hard to take seriously yet she's still played completely straight, which I think can get a bit jarring.
Mostly, I can't get over how awesome her hat is. oO
Leonardo Scott totally saves the whole damn manga, though. That man is pure win. He is made out of awesome and God. http://forums.comicbookresources.com/images/icons/icon14.gif

You often see bishounen who are so girly they are actually mistaken for girls, both by the readers and the other characters. Naoto from Persona 4
Tvtropes has this (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Bifauxnen) to say on the subject.
Haruka from Sailor Moon is a good example.
Sailor Uranus looks too much like a girl, I think, and so does this Naoto person. I meant someone who doesn't look like a bishounen boy so much as a boy period.
(That picture in the Bifauxnen article is a better example, though.)
The only character I can think of that was kinda like that was Teruko from Shaman King, whom I seriously thought was a guy until her gender was actually spelled out.

People don't like it cause the characters are obviously superhuman and thus sueish they think. Well, I guess that means most people here will enjoy it.

Thats one of the main characters from Medaka Box.
She's a badass is what she is.
Medaka Box rocks in my opinion but the current arc seems to have pissed some people off. Some people don't like the fact that its been more action oriented lately but I find it rather refreshing. Its really nice to see Medaka really cut loose plus the manga was on the verge of getting cancelled so the author had to do something and so far it seems to be working.
Just don't piss Medaka off and you've got nothing to worthy about.

That's what I like to see in a villain: some kind of principles, a sense of pride or even honor, and the guts to stand up for those things. Even if they are complete and utter bastards otherwise.
Also, isn't he kinda winning the ideological side of the fight? Considering what Medaka has been reduced to, and all?

Medaka is kind of a Sue, but I think that's also sort of the point. It's like calling Jesus a Gary Stu; he's supposed to be. The story so far has kinda dealt with what it's like to hang out with a more or less perfect person and how being perfect affects her outlook on life and other people.

No, Medaka is the main character. Zenkichi can be said to be the protagonist, but he's not really the main character as defined in dramatic structure.
It's kinda like how the stories are told from the viewpoint of Dr Watson, but they are still about Sherlock Holmes.

All right, some more reviews by me. This time, they'll be quite a bit.
Note: These are all manga (or at least what I've seen)
---
Ikigami - This one is pretty interesting which proves that fictional Japan does some weird things to correct problems; while unruly youths were dealt with by Battle Royale, laziness and apathy is dealt with by this. To make Japan value life once more, the government began a program in which children are injected with syringes in which have a random chance of a nano-capsule in it which will kill them later in life. The people are chosen at random, thus who each victim is and how they spend their last 24 hours varies.
Katteni Kaizou - If the art and sheer wackiness reminds you of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, well it's because its from the same guy. This time it revolves around a high-schooler by the name of Kaizou, who used to be a genius until his friend kick him off the jungle gym when they were little. Now, he's retarded, although like SZS, things aren't exactly normal in the first place.
Makaido - Speaking of less than bright main characters, this story also revolves around one, although he's more aware of it, due to the girl he loves preferring only intelligent men. However, a strange catalog he picks up seems to be designed especially for him for times of need, although the results are less than good thanks to him, much to horror of the mysterious benefactor who gave him the catalog.
Ocha ni Gosu - A bit similar to Angel Densetsu. A former delinquent whose appearance frightens others, attempts to go the peaceful path by joining the tea ceremony club.
Onikirimaru - This series is more action than anything, the story revolves around a nameless oni who was born resembling a human and has a katana instead of a horn. In order to be come human, he must kill every demon; a task easier said that done.
Ookami no Monshou - Wolf Guy - For those of you sick of vampires, this is a story about werewolves. At the moment, the manga hasn't quite gotten to main plot, but it's shown to be pretty dark (the guy who did this one also did Akumetsu, if that says anything.)
Sengoku Youko - Made by the same guy who did Psycho Staff and Hoshi no Samidare, this one stands out from the other two purely due to its setting (which is feudal Japan.) The story focuses around two "children"; a demon and a demon wannabe who can briefly become one if he drinks the other's blood. Despite the latter's hatred of human, the two wander around, tyring to bring peace to both humans and demons.

Anyway, I'm at chapter 30 now and so far I like it - fun cast of characters and I love Yabuki's art as usual.
Though, I wish it would focus more on alien fighting, which was kind of set up as a major theme what with the "suiters from all over the galaxy" thing and "the destruction of the Earth" being at stake.

Agreed.
Also, I can't help but think the premise for Ikegami sounds pretty darn stupid as well. I mean, there's a certain risk of dying randomly without self-destruct nano-capsules - motor accidents, cancer, stabbed by muggers, etc.

Also, major temporal plot twisting going on in Ghost Sweeper Mikami.
Megaman: I hate time travel.
Quiet you.
Edit: In fact, the general approach to time travel in GS Mikami is another thing that makes me wonder if it doesn't actually take place in the same world as Inuyasha. They both are very relaxed about it, except GS Mikami actually states that time is too powerful to be messed up by a couple of humans jumping around the timeline.
As Yahtzee put in the latest Zero Punctuation: "As long as the losers lose and the winners win it doesn't seem to matter. It's an appealingly slap-dash approach to time policing - like a plumber who works with duct tape and string."

Finished reading Change Guy! and it was a pretty fun ride. The art was good the martial arts was pretty well-represented, the premise is interesting and the characters generally fairly likeable.
It's not the best thing I've ever read since it falls into the trap of abandoning interesting side characters and the ending leaves a lot of loose threads to be tied up. In fact the entire final story arc is a bit out of left field.
Still I'd recommend it if you like martial arts-centric stories with a touch of school life drama thrown in. Yes, FistofIron, I do mean you specifically.
In other news, another new chapter of Change 123 came out and I think we may be about to see a very interesting development in Motoko's psyche.

It should be noted with Korean manhwa, I heard that the competition in that particular market tends to be very fierce. So in other words, a lot of manhwa tend to canceled a lot. I've heard with Change Guy, the manhwa got canned and was force finish up. That's why the end seems abrupt.

My guess is that Canute didn't want to have him executed but still had to get rid of him somehow, so he was sold off as a thrall* instead.
Thorfinn, being in the middle an anti-heroic BSOD, probably didn't care much and goes along with because he doesn't consider himself to have anything to live for anyway.

The fact that for a while now, looking back it's been at least 30 odd chapters, I have gone from being slightly confused to having no damn idea what has been going on this manga really hit me here. Despite Kurogane and Fai expositioning the crap out of the final story arc at the reader I am still left with a feeling of "Wut?"
I think the series kind of jumped the shark a bit towards the end. The premise left the story pretty much to go nearly anywhere and, in all fairness, the variety of locales and plots was stunning, though CLAMP could have easily come up with a lot more new characters than just populating their interesting worlds with recolours of prior CLAMP characters. The writing of the main four characters was pretty solid throughout.
However towards the end the writers left the reader to accept a ton of really bloody random plot points in incredibly quick succession not to mention directly tying the series directly to XXXHolic as well through the character of Watanuki, a series I have read little of and as such had no idea what the significance of him was.
Fei Wong never seemed much of an evil villain really either or at least not one who knew what he was doing. His entire plan seemed to hinge on trapping two sets of time-clones of a pair of young lovers in a pair of glass tubes and this for some reason seemed to cause reality to shatter multiple times. I have no idea why this is and I honestly couldn't tell you how we got here to be honest.
I will be going back and carefully rereading the final arc since I am aware that I might be missing something huge but I think if a reader is going "Yeah... but how and, more importantly, why is this happening?" that's not good story-telling.
To conclude, Tsubasa Reversoir Chronicles is a good series. I enjoyed like... 85% of it immensely. It had good story telling, interesting plots, beautiful imagery and symbolism and the amount of twists were simply astounding. But then towards the end it just tries too much at once and throws too much stuff in the face of the reader without properly explaining itself.
And the ending. What the hell is all this "True names," bollocks? What does it mean? Does it even matter? If not, why do it?
So yeah, a good series but the final arc kind of ruins it for me.
And those are my thoughts.

Pretty much. In fact, I need to order a new batch of the manga soon. I've been neglecting it for months now.
Still, happy ending, I hope?
