Keanu Reeves Eager To Do ‘Something Good’ With ‘Cowboy Bebop’ Movie
http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2008/12/17/keanu-reeves-eager-to-do-something-good-with-cowboy-bebop-movie/
As one who loves Cowboy Bebop, I'm reasonably conserned about this. What say you guys? Think he'll pull it off, or have fans world wide lamenting?
Even if the movie turns out to be crap I won't care because the anime will always exist. I like Keanu but I just don't see him as Spike.

Wow. You really think he's that bad?
Pretty much. I mean, I don't hate him or anything, but for crying out loud, look at him. He has two, maybe three facial expressions and a single tone of voice. oO

Give him a more animated role and he can and has displayed a plethora of emotions as well as any other actor could.

...Seriously? We're talking about Keanu Reeves. The man is arguable the worst actor in the world in proportion to what he earns. There is no way he'd "pull off" Spike Spiegel.
I hope not. I like Alastor; guy's funny.
Yeah, but he's a demon god with dubious motives (He says he's here to keep the balance, but somehow I don't trust him. He seems to have groomed Shana solely for some plan of his and a Crimson Lord actually caring about what happens to Guze or humanity? I don't know) I really hope not though. I like him too.

Feh, you only by find his motives dubious because he's voiced by Naraku.
Though I don't see any genuine reason to distrust Alastor. He doesn't seem the type to have have any ulterior motives and appears to be a real stickler to the rules. Besides, he's an Old One and an actual God in his world, so he understands the requirement of maintaining balance(not to mention his interactions of his previous contractors may have softened him). The other Crimson Denizens either don't understand the significance or simply don't care. It's been stated that Crimson Denizens are primarily motivated by their desires, and are almost blind to everything else.
As for Shana, He exercises too much fatherly attention and protectiveness to be using Shana. Hell, he actually asked Chigusa for advice on parenting. I'm far more suspicious of Marcoshias than Alastor. He seems to harvest quite a vendetta against Lamies (the real one btw, not the old Torch she uses as a storage unit for PoE and a puppet) and Silver. Not to mention in his own words "What do I care about the balance?! I'm gonna swallow up all the Power of Existence and I'm gonna kill, kill and kill you all!"

Didn't know about the bolded.
Silver is the Snake of Festival. The Bel Masque's god and the closest in power to Alastor. His motives are unclear though he has apparently possessed Yuji and returned to Sereiden. I've also heard theories for Lamies being a Bel Masque spy. As for Shana, my view is largely based on his words before he incinerated Friagne.

I'm aware of the Silver's identity and I was under the impression that it's quite possibly more powerful than Alastor. As for Friagne, It was my impression that he was somewhat boasting out of pride for Shana, not necessarily reflecting any intentions he had for her.

Or not???? With Flame Haze slaughtering Tomogara that may in large enough numbers pose a threat to the Lords, Earth is a veritable POE buffet waiting for whatever the Lords want. I also feel that Marco is with Alastor and that he isn't really as incompetent as he looks.

Surprisingly there is actully some cool action parts in it. Basically the whole premise I have taken form what I have watched so far is the Suzamiya actully has these almost godlike powers, but she doesn't know she has them. When she gets too bored she has the power to just change everything an start the world over so her freinds try to keep her interested in things so she doesn't do that.

Note to potential Haruhi watchers: Watch it in broadcast order, not chronological. If you watch it chronologically you'll blow through the main plot in 6 episodes and leave nothing but filler thereafter. (Not to say that the filler isn't fun, but spreading out the plot helps the whole series go down better.)
And now for some Moyashimon.

Shana is awesome. Now I'm just hoping I can get the entire novel collection to date. Damned Viz is taking too long to release them (two per year WTH?). Guess I'll have to go get the Chinese versions. Taiwan should have them but alas I ain't going there anytime soon.
BTW, who else thinks that the ultimate villian of SnS isn't the Snake but Alastor and that Bel Masque are actually the good guys?
I could see that being true of the SnS novels, but it's hard to see how it can be true of the anime seeing as how they've veered off more than a bit from the novels, and made Bel Masque more Batman-villain-esque in their obvious villainy.

Reeves is a good actor... but only for certain roles. I actually feel that the Neo role - given how Neo is supposed to go from clueless-and-fooled to a silent-and-serious-protagonist - was absolutely perfect for Reeves.
I mean, a more emoting actor like, say, Jim Carrey may have overemoted and ruined that character.
Now, Spike, OTOH... Spike has a bit of lowkey cool charisma to him that I don't know if Reeves can capture. Still, I can't really think of a good actor to play Spike...

The Baki series is based on the manga. Hopefully someday more of Baki will be animated.
Ninja Scroll is about a badass ninja who has to kill other badass ninjas. It has actual plot but its all about the badass action.
Black Lagoon is about criminals who run an illegal devilery service. Plenty of gunfights and it has some of the best dialouge you'll ever hear.
Heat Guy J is about a cop with an android for a partner and it has all kinds of action.

I love Vampire Hunter D its just so awesome. The second film didn't really give D the actions scene he deserved. I waited the whole film for D and Meyer to have and epic fight and but I was let down. Edit: I just realized there's a good chance Kubo named her after Halle Berry. http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/736/2783287001db737e0f76mzf6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)Fear not.
She's named after an architect named Harry Bell Measures.

Because I just found out that the mandarin section of my local Kinokuniya has most of the Taiwanese versions of their Japanese books. I'm not sure should I get them, partly because my mandarin, while passable, isn't exactly stellar but mostly because I don't want to spend hours reading all those characters only to find out that the translation is wrong.

I liked it but I feel its a bit overhyped. Not only that but it was so boring at times it was nearly insufferable. You ever seen a film that felt longer than it running time and just too forever finish? Thats how I feel about Akira. I found it so boring that at the half hour mark I felt like I had already watched an hours worth of the film. The animation isn't too bad, and I loved the futuristic bikes, but I did not care for the plot of a governement taking kids to do whatever the hell it they were do to them. Ehh. Overhyped is most certainly what this film was. I guess I went in expecting more than this could ultimately deliver. Sure, the motorcycle skirmish in the film opening was a grandoise scene and great way to set up the film, but after that I feel teh film falters greatly. The hype without doubt killed what was probably an otherwise okay animated feature.

The reason the AKira film is touted as being so awesome, which it is by the wya, is because most people who've seen it have read the manga which is far superior.
Put it this way. The end of the film is pretty much the end of Book 3 in the Manga which then goes onto to have three more books on top of that.
The plot is much better and the characters much more well-rounded. The movie is awesome because it's a simplified version of the events of Books 1-3 and it's very well made.

What I didn't like about the movie was that it was more about some government secret or not-so-secret experiment on kids or drawfs to minipulate whatever psychic ability they may or may not have had rather than a war between street gangs on futuristic motorcyles. Essentailly, the first 10 minutes of the movie is what I was hoping the entire movie would be, but instead it's more about this groups of kids' friend being taken into custody by dubious authorities to do whatever the hell it is they were doing to him. The dated animation helping wasn't drawing me into the experience, either. And at a running time of just a little over two hours and a plot I could care less about I found myself struggling to stay awake or give a damn about anything that was rolling across teh screen infront of me. The only times I managed to find a spirk of interest in when the high speed chases were front and center, but sadly thats not what the movie is about, and as such I don't find any appeal in Akira.

You'll enjoy the first book then.
The first book makes a lot of the gang wars and suchlike and balances it with the psychic stuff which is much more lowkey at the beginning.
I'd recommend trying the first book and seeing if you want to continue. I'm of the opinion that 'AKIRA.' should be read simply because it is one of the most influential manga of all time.

First Retsu got his leg eaten and then Katsumi got his arm taken off. Now Jack has gotten a good deal of his facial skin eaten. I'll admit I loved Jack's reaction after he got part of his face eaten. I can't read Japanese but judging by the expression his face his he was bothered at all and his response was to knock Pickle on his ass with an upercut that would make Ken and Ryu proud. Other than all the crippling I've been enjoying the fights. I hope this match will push Jack into Ogre mode but I just might die from the awesomeness.

Anyone seen To Aru Majutsu no Index?Damn. Thats just another of the many anime's you guys watch that I've never heard of.
The animation looks cool but that may be cecause its the intro and not footage from the show. Looking at that alone I can tell its not a show laden with action of supernatural humans who can do supernatural things, and as such I'm afraid I won't give two sh!ts about it. Its pretty to look at, though.

Try Battle Angel Alita (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_Angel_Alita) (aka Gunnm) and its sequel, Last Order. There are guns, but the emphasis is on hand-to-hand. Er, very gory hand-to-hand, just as a warning.
Battle Angel Alita tells the story of Alita ("Gally" in the original Japanese version), an amnesiac female cyborg. This cyborg's intact head and upper torso are found in a state of suspended animation by the cybermedic expert Daisuke Ido while he is out searching for useful scrap. Amazed by his discovery, Ido quickly returns home and works to revive her. Upon finding that the girl has lost her memory, Ido names her Alita, the name of his recently deceased cat.
The rebuilt Alita soon discovers that she possesses instinctive knowledge of the legendary martial art Panzer Kunst, although she has no other memories of her previous life. Alita must learn to navigate, exist, and fight in the Scrapyard, whose inhabitants themselves live in the shadow of the tantalizingly close floating city, Tiphares. Her journeys take Alita across the Scrapyard and surrounding areas, as she tries to recall more of her past.

I'm not real sure on that one, there's Black Lagoon, but everyone uses guns in that.

I was hoping the ending would be sometime in the future where we see the little kid come as a grown dude to challenge Afro similar to how Kuma did in the original 5 episode series end. Surmising on how this ended though theres hopefully more Afro Samurai in store for the future. I thought the plot was a little thin and the climax a bit stupid. We didn't get a Kuma and Afro rematch nor was Lady Sio a swordwoman. I was thinking she'd be his fianl opponent but it turns out she couldn't even fight. She was the sexiest thing I've ever seen animated, though. Such a tease with that skirt, OMG!!!!!! The weirdass moon and sun are part of the setting, which I think that it has a certain Tim Burtonesque-feel to it that I really enjoy.
Black Star's personality can become a bit annoying at times but overall I find him to incredibly enjoyable in his up beat, never say die attitude and ludicrous "I am beyond God" mantra. He's cool, hilarious and pretty original and deep as far as characters go. Same goes for all the characters IMO. They're all strong and different from most stereotypes and have very interesting bonds to each other.
And much like Fairy Tail this manga actually has women that can kick the crap out of the bad guys, without being objects of fan-service exposure.
Overall, the weirdness/originality and strong characters makes Soul Eater an awesome manga. And yes, the fight scens kick ass as well.

I think I actually figured out what is going on with the Sun and the Moon. Pretty much everyone we see in Soul Eater is spiritually adept, right? The Sun and Moon are the actual sun and moon, but we see their "soul" over their normal form.
Pretty decent guys, too.
As for the complaints about hair, I guess you have yet to get to Ox, who is one of the most badass nerds I have seen in manga. His first fight, pretty lousy. Then he's awesome for the rest of the manga.

No interesting special moves or tricky close combat manuvers. At least not on the level of the original series and the first sagas of Z.
Then came Gotenks vs. Super Buu. I loved it since the originality of it harkened back to the more playfull days of Dragonball, only with much higher power levels. Their was a level of silliness and originality that had been gone for so long from the series. Also, the scene where the two of them more or less spew energy blasts from their mouths is hilarious to me.

The weirdass moon and sun are part of the setting, which I think that it has a certain Tim Burtonesque-feel to it that I really enjoy.
I find the sun and moon to be a bit much, but they're tolerable.
Black Star's personality can become a bit annoying at times but overall I find him to incredibly enjoyable in his up beat, never say die attitude and ludicrous "I am beyond God" mantra. He's cool, hilarious and pretty original and deep as far as characters go.
I like how he's basically a stereotype shonen hero who's attitude is taken just far enough to actually get dangerous to himself and people around him, especially with the Insanity effect influencing naturally unstable people.
I tend to say he's kinda like a bizarre mix of Naruto and Sasuke: he's got the former's flamboyant personality but the later's lust for power.
And much like Fairy Tail this manga actually has women that can kick the crap out of the bad guys, without being objects of fan-service exposure.
Incidentally, Maka is pretty much exactly the kind character I had been looking for a while when I started reading the manga again, and that made me happy.
But those hairstyles and character designs! OMG how do stand them! Balck Stars is the worst! Its makes no sence! Truthfully, Maka is only person I in this entire series I find tolerable in appearence and skill.
I've read Shaman King.
The designs in Soul Eater are nothing to me. oO
As for favorite fights, I really enjoyed Death the Kid vs. Black Star and Soul when they first met him.
Then there's Tsubaki against her brother.
And basically any fight scene that has to do with Mifune.
Oh, and the second fight of Maka and Soul vs. Chrona and is pure gold.
Seconding Maka and Soul vs Chrona part 2.
Also, Medusa vs Dr Stein holds a special place in my heart. Totally awesome.
And this last fight between Black Star and Mifune was completely insane. oO

In the anime, sure it was cool. But in the manga it's as generic as most of the fight sequences from that time.I remember the manga more than the anime and after the Freiza saga ended the fights just lost all imagination and became nothing more than large energy blasts and speedy fighting. Gotenks' entire character is intolerably immature and the prime definition of STUPID. Despite having many of his family members killed, most of the population desimated by Buu, and Earth is self in grave peril or being eraicated he still feels the need to drag out the fight and act like a dumb ass when his opponent is a relentless psychopath who's seeking nothing but universal annihilation. I found nothing hilarious about Gotenks or his shinnanigans during his fight with Buu. He's infintile personality is vexing. Considering how distraught both Goten and Trunks were at Buu murder of their family memebers you'd think he's kill Buu teh first chance he get. But no, he doesn't. Instead of ending it once and for all he persistently fools around to the point where fusion runs out and he reverst back into his two halfs. Just ridiculous. Nothing redeeming about the entire Buu saga whatsoever.

I found him too much of a wannabe. He's the same idiot as any other shonen hero, with nothing to really make him special. Soul at least has his more down-to-earth persona. Black*Star is just loud and obnoxious.

That was great. Especially when Medusa was all like, dying, as says "I love you".

But that's just the thing, isn't it? Black Star is supposed to be a bit too much of an obnoxious wannabe for his own good. He's clearly overdoing it, and I don't think it's meant to be a very likable trait. That's why he doesn't have a more central part: on paper he has all the qualifications to be the main idiot shonen hero, yet could probably never actually pull that role off. That's really what I find so interesting about him.

Mmmm, Tsubaki's handles...Well, if they do get together at least it seems to be a common occurence in the Soul Eater world for the weapons to get together with humans. So it's not all that weird.

Actually, going by what little we've seen of Soul's backstory, the weapons seem to be a type of humans who just happen to be born that way. (Soul is the only one in his family who's a weapon, which apparently came as a surprise to them.)

All the former was fool around until time ran and Goten and Trunks had to be save by either Piccolo or Gohan. Freakin' sad how far this series fell from grace.

Death the Kid and Free vs. Mosquito was also pretty damn awesome.
And Justin vs. Giriko round 1 blew my mind away first time I saw it.
Does anybody else think that Eruka, the frog witch, became kind of pretty once her make up was removed?

And I'm with you on the witch thing. Sure we have a couple of cases of creepy evil witches, Medusa and Archane, but most of the others just seem to want to live their lifes. This is another one of those conflicts where It'd be interesting to see how it all started.
Does anybody else hope that Mifune doesn't die. Mostly because I'm worried about what will happen to Angela if he does.
