Michael Crichton died of cancer today at the age of 66. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7711763.stm)

Writer of THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN, CONGO, TIMELINE, SPHERE, RISING SUN....and, of course, JURASSIC PARK.

Also the creator of ER and writer/director of WESTWORLD.

I loved the Andromeda strain and the Jurassic park novel (to which the movie was definitely not faithful enough to preserve what made it so good).

Crichton was talented and put a lot of work in his stories. May he rest in peace, and his family find solace in the memory of him.

Wow.

Granted, I haven't been keeping up on his personal life, but this seems completely out of left field.

My heart goes out to his family and friends.

The first real novel that I read was The Andromeda Strain. Before that, I was just reading Hardy Boys books, plus short stories at school.

I've only read a couple of his books. Not really my cuppa. But I definitely enjoyed Eaters of the Dead.

This is so sad.
I'm a huge fan of his books & have watched ER since it started.
I was eagerly awaiting his next book which was scheduled for later this year.
I wonder if it was finished and might still get published.

It's been pushed back to either March or May. One of those. It was decided a while ago and is not due to his passing.

It's a sad day. I didn't even know he had cancer, but then again I'm not current on many of my favorite authors.

I've been a fan since Andromeda Strain. Rising Sun is dated, economically and politically, but it's a good story. Rest in peace, good writer. :frown:
