Drat! That occurred to me immediately, but I discounted the instinct because I wasn't aware of (& was, I guess, too lazy to check out) any "slight change to its title."

There was no change to the title in the indicia, which is what counts. Whether that qualifies as 'slight' is perhaps open for debate.

It's almost enough to make one suspect that LR is some sort of hair-splitting lawyer, isn't it?

I've never actually read an issue of Tomahawk, so in this perhaps I had an advantage over my more learned comrades. But I guessed that the slight title change was referring to the later "Son of Tomahawk" issues.

Tomahawk #21

That's it! 200 points for Scott

Yeah, I'm normall a stickler for indica changes - but this one was quite pronounced as the protagonist even changes.

Gilligan?!

Turns out there was never a comic book based on Gilligan's Island, which I find astounding.

Yeah--I always thought that pretty much any TV show in the '60s with some sort of "kid appeal"--and several without--got the Gold Key treatment.

Gilligan?! ...

Archie?!?

But I don't think he ever wore a red sweater... looks sorta like a western theme now that I think about it.

I think Lone Ranger is just trying to get me to tear my hair out. I would have sworn on a stack of Crime Does Not Pay that this was Crimebuster from Boy Comics. Note the similarity between the clue and his costume, as shown on the cover of #100:

However, Crimebuster started wearing this outfit in issue #60 and after checking every cover from #60-119 -- twice -- I have to conclude that this isn't actually Crimebuster. Either that or he has succeeded in driving me mad. One or the other.

My first thought was "Billy Batson".

Turns out there was never a comic book based on Gilligan's Island, which I find astounding.

Reminds me of Red Buttons' old comedy routine, " {...} never got a dinner."

Gilligan's Island? Never got a comic. The characters were too unrealistic.

Bowery Boys? Never got a comic. Comedy and action in an urban setting couldn't possibly work.

Commando Cody? Never got a comic. But The Rocketeer wouldn't exist without him.

Hey cool, I did not know there was a comic for that.
I'm responsible for the only published German translation of those 3 Caprona novels.

That badly drawn hand makes me think Charlton love comic, but there is something about the stiffness of the guy that makes me think Millie the Model or Patsy and Hedy or the like.

... not to seem overly impatient or anything like that, but ... it has been 9 months, so could we just admit that no one is ever going to guess this one?
Let's see the cover and move on to the next one ... just a suggestion. :-)

I have a sneaking suspicion that this ground to a halt, unfortunately, not because of the lack of successful identifications for the most recent entry but rather because Lone Ranger's non-comics life became vastly more, ummm, distractng last year.

It's Millie the Model #131. I was working all those months trying to crack it.... Marvel gray, Marvel gray... Hmm...

Huh. Nicely done. I'm pretty sure I actually looked at the Millie covers last week trying to solve this.

Like Dan, I too assumed this thread disappeared due to other considerations than anyone's inability to solve this one... it's never stopped us before.
