Tell us who is your favorite DC character and later on i'll make a list of the top 50 characters of the DCU according to you! If your character is not on the list make sure you tell us, i could only put so many on the poll. And be specific. It doesn't have to be a hero just your favorite character. Post pics if you want too!
my favorite has always been the DCU Swamp Thing and not his vertigo counterpart (by this i mean when he was firmly rooted in the DCU and interacted with everyone)

Shayera Thal, leading lady and Tommy Monaghan top man.
Shayera... as written by Tim Truman and John Ostrander. Fiery, brave redhead.... funny, loyal and kind in spite of a traumatic childhood.
Tommy (Garth Ennis's finest, of course) ... darn it... just how can a professional hitman be so funny and decent? I followed Tommy thru 60 issues and never one dull moment. When his moment of truth came (whether to escape to happy freedom or to wade thru a lethal salvo of bullets to try to help a friend)... I knew exactly what Tommy would do.
Both dead. Long may they remain so, safe from the "improvements" I fear DC latest star writers would heap upon them.

Zatanna, she is really quite fab. Especially when written by Grant Morrison.

Captain Marvel. All those others are mere pretenders to the name. Yes, he started out as a Superman knock off, but he had his own mythology and was more easily related to in the minds of the comic buying kids at the time.
I wish like hell Judd Winick had never gotten his hands on him!

I would love to be original and say Ted Kord or Green Arrow but on Batman was the guy who leaps to mind.

Do I have to pick just one?
Let's see....Definetly The Ravager/Rose Wilson, with Babs Gordon in second, kinda tied with Black Canary.

If we're including both villains and heroes then I pick the Joker over Nightwing. I'll buy any comic with him in it. I'll admit it I'm a Joker-whore

Wonder Woman all the way. I've always liked her but she wasn't of great interest to me when I was younger, at least not enough to read any of her comics but of recent years that's changed. She's one of the few comic characters left these days who I actually look up to anymore.
I'm a bit old fashioned, I don't want a character I can relate to, I want a super hero that I can look up to; she provides that time and time again in her stories.
She's one of those few heroes who I can think about and actually say without a doubt "Yeah, the world would be a better place if she was real."

IMPULSE. Hands down. It angers me so much to think how badly the character has been handled in recent years.
AND
Jack Knight Starman. I don't think I've ever connected with a comic like that before.

I can't really narrow it down to one. Hal Jordan, Vic Sage Question, Jack Knight and Zatanna are usually my top 4 so I'll vote other.

I was wondering what it was about the character that stirs me. And that's very much part of it. She's a pure character in a way that I can believe she's sincere.

Geez, for me it changes like the wind.
When I first started reading comics in the early '90s, mainly through back issues from the '80s and stuff, it was a character by the name of Blue Beetle (Ted Kord).
A little later, during the later part of the '90s, I came back to discover that Ted wasn't so easy to find anymore but there was a new guy as Green Lantern. I had liked GL before in concept, but was never really enamored of any of the main characters. And the new guy, Kyle Rayner, seemed cool in that he was just a regular guy trying to figure out the job as he went along. Plus, he made lots of cool stuff with the ring.
And recently, as I've been reading into more of the Silver Age stuff through Showcase reprints and stuff, I've developed a real liking for The Flash. By this I mean Barry Allen. Barry just strikes me as the first everyman of the DCU. Sort of like a Peter Parker type, except a bare bones version without all the neuroses and whining piled on.
As for those being published right now, well I'm rather fond of Booster Gold.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
No longer current, but IMO the pre-Beechen Cassandra Cain Batgirl.
Lacking that, the Brubaker Catwoman. (even after Brubaker left)
Right now, I don't know.
Cassandra Cain is ruined beyond repair. Selina is in the same danger, but it remains to be seen.

Original Hourman.
Closely followed by the Original Doctor Mid-Nite and Original Dr. Fate.
Hawkman
11-02-2008, 09:43 PM
Hawkman. I grew up with the Thanagarian version, but Geoff's retooling of the GA version has made it so I really don't have a preference of whether it's Carter or Katar under the mask.
With the Thanagarian Katar, you have someone who came from a planet that essentially turned its back on him and his ideals. In Earth, he sees what his planet once was and could perhaps someday be again, and while he fights to protect his new home, he never gives up the dream of someday returning his old one to its former glory. With Carter, you have an eternal hero, fighting against injustice for countless lifetimes. His experiences throughout the ages haven't made him bitter or cold, but rather only reaffirmed his ideals and strong sense of justice, as well as strengthening his love for the only person who's been alongside him throughout it all.
Despite their seemingly stark differences in origin, though, both have a common theme, one that makes me a fan of Hawkman in general: they're selfless warriors who fight a never ending battle that deep down inside they know they probably can't win. For Katar, Thanagar will always be doomed to hierarchical rule no matter what he does on Earth, and for Carter, regardless of what difference he makes in this lifetime, he's been around long enough to realize that there will still be evil in the next one. But Hawkman fights on all the same, as an honor-bound warrior, battling the injustices of today with the weapons of the past head-on and without pause.
Now to me, that's a darn respectable and equally fascinating character in the world of comics.
I picked "other" because there's no way I can pick just one. There's a couple dozen A-tier ones, but I can't raise any one of them above the rest. They're all top tier.
Some of my favorites are Oliver Queen, Mia Dearden, Guy Gardner, Arisia, Dick Grayson, Starfire, Dawnstar, Nura Nal, Brainiac 5, Fire, Ice, Booster Gold, Ted Kord.

he's definitely one of the more popular characters...compared to guys like metamorpho, the question, john henry irons etc, but i'm sure a lot of people would consider him b-list still.

Nobody. I have enjoyed a lot of DC comics over the years, but gradually realized that talented writers and artists can make me appreciate characters, and bad writers and artists can make me lose interest in characters.

my fault, didn't read the first page so i wasn't aware this was a 'survey'. just didn't want to create another thread since there's 'favorite dc character?' threads all over the place.
continue on.....
I said "other" ... tough call as to which particular "other" that'd be, but I'd probably say Orion, from Jack Kirby's Fourth World project.
