If you don't want to be spoiled about the end of Reign in Hell #4..........

Try not to read anything on the cover.

Thanks for another dumb move, DC. Next time, don't use someone's popular nickname to spoil the big return ON THE FREAKIN' COVER.

It might be pretty smart. If someone isn't reading it, but knows who that is, they will pick it up.

Really depends on how you want to view it. I haven't looked at the last two issues, but because of what I saw after seeing the cover, I looked through this and decided I might look at future ones too

They've been hinting at someone returning in this series, and that this issue (which has a Sightings banner, so it's a big deal as far as DC's concerned) was gonna reveal the returnee.

But it just SUCKS to get it spoiled on the cover, y'know? The sense of surprise is gone before I even open the comic... :-/

Yeah, it really just matters how you take it. DC is obviously doing it to get more sales on that book by allowing people to see a big name in the book that they enjoy. The only problem with that is that it's a slap to the readers who don't want to be spoiled, which I'm sure sucks.

Here's the line on the cover that offended me ever so...

THE MAIN MAN IS BACK!

Basically, the war continues, with Neron taking a strategic advantage - Zauriel meets up with Ragman and the Shadowpact gang - Sargon runs into Zatanna - Dr. Fate fights with Lilith and her minions - Deadman visits Jason Blood and alerts him to problems arising with Rama Kushna in Nanda Parbat (with no hellish evil on Earth, she's going a bit nuts it seems) - and Etrigan & Blue Devil brawl.

That last one is key, for their fight takes them to a deep detention center, where resides a being that took a lot of collective power to subdue and imprison. The 2 falls into the pit, and it goes supernova. And from the smoke arises........

Yup...

LOBO.

I did'nt even know he was gone anywhere....
But I got to agree about the cover text.

I think the last time he got a lot of usage was in YOUNG JUSTICE, when he was de-aged and then sorta died or something.

Given that Giffen's writing him again (for the first time in several years, as I recall) I think we're not going to get all the details but just a roundabout "I went away, I'm back, I'm PISSED" treatment...

I had no idea that the "main man" referred to him.

Eh.

Didn't Giffen mention in his 52 tpb notes that he was more than a bit tired of the character and that it was only because of Grant Morrison coming up with some pretty inventive ways to use him in the story that Giffen relented...

And without his talking dolphin, I frankly think he sucks.

He was featured in 52.

And in his one of his early mini-series, he died and went to both Heaven and Hell, but was banned from both for being, well, himself.

That was the big return?!?!? He never went anywhere (he was featured in 52 with the space characters), so talk about being unexcited about his "return".

Just so I'm sure....

This mini didn't have any effect on Kid Devil as a character, right?

He was also in Brave and the bold teaming with Supergirl, In Blue Beetle and Teen Tians recently.

Given that Lobo can regenerate himself from his own blood, I'm assuming Giffen's going to claim that this Lobo is the "real Lobo" and that the Lobo in 52/Brave and the Bold is a regenerated clone.

What I don't understand is why Giffen is even bothering. Does he really hate the direction of the character so much that he's willing to hold his nose and write a reboot?

I was hoping the big return would be Constantine (return to the DC universe proper at least) or Swamp thing

Wow, I completely forgot about that long arc of his in 52...

Yeah, I'm hoping Giffen will explain this. That was the first thing that came to mind when I saw him. Curious on how he got there and how he's allowed in.

That's because it was the one used the least during the series. Yet, it was probably my favorite...

I'm really enjoying Reign in Hell. Loved the Blue Devil v. Etrigan battle. The story does get a little hard to follow at some points with all these Hellish characters to keep track of and tell apart. But I'm still liking the whole thing.

I'm thrown about Lobo's appearance though. When did he go to Hell? He was just killing that fish god in 52. Also, why is he here in this series? I haven't really read a whole lot about Lobo. Is there anything supernatural about him? I just thought he was a alien cosmic guy. If he's not supernatural, the.... again, why is he here? It isn't like there's not enough supernatural characters as it is to spotlight. Maybe Lobo's appearance will turn out to be fun. But right now it's unwelcome.

It's a shame Reign in Hell isn't performing better. It's below 20k on the charts. What's wrong with DC? Marvel made a success out of Annihilation, even while Civil War was going on, and DC has one of the chief architects of that working on this. It's like DC threw Reign in Hell out there and just assumed it would succeed on its own. Annihilation had hype, publicity, eye-grabbing covers and spotlight limited series. DC couldn't be bothered to even slap a "Final Crisis" on the title. It's not like half the books with Final Crisis in their titles really have much to do with the event.

It's just frustrating. I've read Annihilation, so I know exactly what Reign in Hell could be for DC's supernatural landscape. And while I am loving the series, all I see is DC blowing it.

so did blue Devil win his court case with the devil? Or was that never resolved before Shadowpact was canned.

He's pretty much the DC version of Wolverine. He can regenerate from the smallest drop of blood, and due to a series (Lobos Back, I think), where he died and went to Heaven; he got banned from going to Heaven or Hell. I never read the story, but he was apparently de-aged at one time and fought swarms of Apokolips soldiers during the Our Worlds at War story, and I don't know how he got his adult body back. As for supernatural...well, I don't know if any of that counts, but possibly.

Blue Devil ended up winning the court case in Shadowpact by getting his brother to tear up the contract (it was a funny scene: since Blue Devil was a higher ranking devil than his brother, he could just order him to void the contract.)

After that he lost his powers for a few issues, then started wearing his costume for the final battle versus the Sun King.

Interesting. Lobo enters in a blaze of glory .Where does he mention that?

Neron did bargain for Lobo's soul in the Underworld Unleashed. Perhaps he got more than he bargained for.

Ahh, Lobo and Etrigan together again in Hell? Haven't seen that since the last issues of The Demon.

Now where is the true king of hell, Master Baytor?!

Probably not. The real reason is probably that he recognizes a paycheck when he sees one.

IMO it was the best tie-in to the Underworld crossover.
Probably the only positive thing at all that I remember from Underworld.
