borrowed these from a friend at work...
well, i can see why this book has been hammered in a pretty critical way, based on the writing...to a point...
unfortunately, i think those people are looking for something that they aren't going to find in loeb's run...
that being said, i have found it immensly enjoyable in a simple way...this has been mainly an all out action book...
it could be called Hulk VS. to be a more accurate description...and it's been neat thusfar...
not sure if I'm gonna end up buying it monthly, but will do my best to keep up as long as it stays, well, this dumb...
i guess i can understand why some Hulk fans would be pissed, and want a little more substance to their monthly dose, yet could hope that marvel will be able to possible do two titles or find a happy medium, because i think as far as fun goes, there should be a hulk title like this monthly...

You know, despite all the rage at the Rulk and Loeb, you have to give Loeb this. We all kept coming back and making the book sell like hot cakes. If nothing else, Loeb could make an event, and sell a book with damning praise. I couldn't wait to get on the net and tear strips of Rulk, yet he kept me coming back for more. Well done Jeph.

Yeah, the man can sell. No doubt about that.
I said from the beginning that I though Loeb's Hulk book was fun. I just wish he had an editor that could tweak him a bit here and there, but aside from that I think Loeb does write a descent Hulk book.
It's nothing incredibly epic or moving like Planet Hulk.. but it's an action packed Smash fest. And to a lot of readers, that's sort of the appeal for a character like Hulk.

I just wish there was another ongoing Hulk book set in main MU that isn't written by Jeph Loeb but someone who is willing to continue to build upon foundations set by PAD and Pak.

Loeb's run actually brought me back to reading the Hulk. I can see why people enjoyed the material prior to his arrival, but I just find Loeb's take and presentation much more enjoyable. I hope he sticks around for a good long while.

I think the ultimate reason why I'm so disappointed by this series is that I wasn't really interested in the Hulk until Planet Hulk. Greg Pak blew me away with his depiction of a smart savage, rather than an idiot who says "me smash". So imagine my sadness at getting the idiot hulk back.

Loeb's Hulk makes me think of Peter David and McFarlane's Hulk. The Hulk fights monsters, bigger, badder monsters than he is.
And the split book makes me think of Tales to Astonish when Hulk (and many other Marvel characters) had ten page stories.
Now, the lack of a monthly schedule can be annoying. That book could become the #1 Marvel book but on the other hand Marvel has been supplying us with a lot of specials that feature a lot of different takes on the Hulk.

Yeah, the schedule of the book is kind of a downer.
That said, he's managing to snag some A list artists. And Loeb does a great job writing to the strengths of those artists, so on that level at least it's often worth the wait.

I think a lot of this is the result of the Civil War fallout. I don't mean that story itself but it's failing as a story and an event. Yes, it sold about 400,000 to 500,000 copies an issue, but it just wasn't that good and it was hyped up as a promised 'we're going to do everything and change the universe' and they set it up as the whole universe is going to change. Did it? YEs, but it wasn't a great concept to base your new universe on (in my opinion) and not only did they not pull it off, they were held down by it's lack of genuinely good moments. Somebody used the term 'empty surprise' and it had a thousand connected books that didn't match and was pretentious and over blown. And yes, they destroyed the integrity and believabity of their most famous character. Not to mention it ended with 'I quit' which is the worst ending I could even think of.
So, basically, they promised this big stuff, which much of which didn't even matter (Thor shows up but he's not Thor). THis is why the book is held is such low critical regard, it's O.K., but we were promised this big stuff for so long, when it's only 'alright', it's not enough.
Yeah, it's O.K., but they shouldn't stretch it out too much. I didn't get to read issue #6, because I'm broke. So, I have no idea what happened in that book.

Well, everyone didn't keep coming back. I bought the first four issues, liked each one a little bit less than the previous one, and quit. I'm just one person, and I know everyone doesn't feel this way, but some do. I imagine the book has added new readers at the same time some have quit, but to me this is a lame and stupid book that has appeal for some, which is fine, but is an insult to the character and at least some fans who have come to expect better, not just from the Pak run but from the David run.
I definitely don't see any comparison to the David-MacFarlane run. At all. That was an intelligent book. Even when the Hulk fought monsters in those issues, which was actually kind of rare, there was intelligence and depth, like the Man-Bull issue. This? Loeb's getting his money, which is good since he's been fired from the TV show Heroes, and Marvel is selling a lot of copies. Good for them. I've been re-reading my old David issues. Far more enjoyable, and I can spend longer than 5 minutes on one, too.
