with Barry Allen back on the DCU scene, it's been hinted that Wally will stay around, but with a new Flash suit.

i've noticed with the upcoming Mortal Combat VS. DCU game, the Flash has a costume that's been "tweaked" a bit. could this be the new look Mr. West will be sporting in '09?

i'm too stupid to post a pic, and i'm sure this was brought up already, but check out the official sight for the game and study the model for the Flash (especially the boots).

thoughts?

No, I won't sue you. You've already been "Sued"... Got it? huh? huh? huh?

There are some rumors about it, but i never heard one of them get serious...

Not likely. Ethan Van Sciver said he was "redesigning Wally West's costume right now" (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=17542) during San Diego Comic Con, about a month after the first screenshots (http://speedforce.org/2008/06/flash-in-mk-vs-dcu/) of MKvDCU showing the Flash had been released.

There might be similar elements, but I wouldn't expect it to just be the Mortal Kombat costume.

I suspect Wally's new outfit will be more than just a few tweaks on the traditional Flash outfit ....

Actually, I was told that Van Sciver was showing around sketches of BARRY ALLEN'S NEW FLASH SUIT at Mid-Ohio Con. According to my source, the lightning bolt symbol on the front of his suit will be bigger and there will be a few additional changes.
Supposedly, he was also showing sketches of the new Impulse (Wally's daughter Iris). Also according to the source from the show, Jai, Wally's son, will be depowered.
I HOPE THIS ISN'T BARRY'S NEW UNIFORM!
What's with those things on his arms? Are we going back to the 1990s where every hero had some sort of strap belted to their arms and legs?
The classic Flash suit is like Superman's suit -- you don't mess with success. Infantino's original design was so sleek and it was the perfect super-hero costume.
Although I liked the Impulse comic, I always thought the colors were way too boring. Not FLASHY enough.
I liked Van Sciver's revision on the Green Lantern suit. The green underwear needed to go. But, I honestly can't see changing Flash's suit any in the least. It really is a classic.

I haven't seen the sketches you speak of but I'm horrified to think that it would include multiple belts and pouches like all of those '90s characters - I just HATE that look.

That gives me an idea! I believe Wally is going back to his old Kid Flash look, only different.

It's abit odd to think that Wally would go to a Kid Flash-ish look after what Bart Allen wore as Kid Flash II.

An alternate reality Flash, Walter West (http://www.hyperborea.org/flash/walter.html).

Technically, Jay Garrick is still wearing the actual classic Flash costume. And the costume that you're talking about... I suspect Wally needs a new costume because Barry will be wearing the silver age Flash costume.

Nope. The news from Mid-Ohio is that Van Sciver has redesigned BARRY'S costume. Not Wally's. I'm not confused or don't know which Flash is which. I am a big Flash fan, have or have had many of the Flash Comics in which Jay Garrick starred and have quite a nice run of the Barry Allen Flash series and most of the Wally West series. I also own or have owned several of the best Flash original art covers and splashes, so I'm sure I know which Flash is which.
Although Jay Garrick is the first Flash, his costume is not the "classic" Flash costume. Barry Allen's Flash suit is the classic and best suit.

He might be tweaking Barry's costume like he did with GL's but as the story in kelson's link states, VanScyver claims to be re-designing Wally's costume.
If that's changed, I'd be interested in seeing the story. Is there a link to backup that up yet ?

They really should have Wally look like Kid Flash. DC brought Kyle Rayner back as a Green Lantern Corp recently, and with a new costume.

I don't think Kyle was put in a "Kid Lantern" outfit, though.

Agreed!

I've always felt was one of the best designs in comicdom. MUCH better looking then the red flash suit.

It wouldn't even be much of a downgrade either. Techniquely wearing the the same red suit as Barry should make him feel younger and more a "kid" flash then the yellow one.

http://ourworld.cs.com/Mizujin01/kidflashorigin2.JPG

If it was me, I'd try to combine the two ideas, Maybe Red on top with just the yellow bolt, like Jays shirt, with the red mask, but with the kid flash's open cowl. Yellow gloves, Red boots, Yellow pants... something like that.

Personally I hope they tweak the yellow kid costume and keep it streamlined, unlike all the frills and ruffles they gave Bart when he wore it. With the flashes, simple is better.

That alternate look is brilliant Wally should get that.

The Kid Flash look is perfect but not for Wally it should be used for future Flash apprentices.

On the other hand just get rid of Barry and stick with the Flash. (I know all that that sentence entails by the way).

I still think that going back to the Kid Flash uniform is essentially saying that Wally is still just a sidekick even after all these years.

Great Idea. While they're at it, they can make him 12 years old again, and then give him scintillating dialog like: 'Gosh, Uncle Barry! What do you think this clue left by the Mirror Master means?'
Wally has paid his dues. He doesn't have to go back to 'Kid Flash', or even a costume that is similar to that. I would prefer a variation of the 'Walter West' suit. Or leave his suit the way it is and give Barry a new one. But I'm sure that will NEVER happen.

Iris as IMPULSE?! Why are they trying to make the DCU into KINGDOM COME?!?!

Is anybody else disappointed that Barry's stealing the mantle back? It's probably just because I was born into West as the Flash, but I really like Wally. And I really like what's happened recently. I just know that they're going to drop his series, reinstate a new Flash series, and Wally will have to hang out in the background like Kyle does now. My only hope now is that they make some sort of a Flash "Corps" series so I can have stories about Wally, still.

As for the costume redesign, I'm kind of looking forward to it. But, an honest redesign, not the Kid Flash outfit. He's not a kid anymore, and I agree that it'll bring him back down to sidekick status. Of course, that may happen just in Barry coming back.

And for the idea of tying the DCU into Kingdom Come, I think it's awesome. With all the Gog stuff, I'm looking forward to a pretty big event with a close mirror to Earth-22's fate.

I just wanna know why superheroes can't stay dead. But if they can't, I say bring Bart back for Flash: Rebirth and Superboy back for New Krypton. A different Superboy, too, I didn't like the transformation he had into Connor Kent.

I guess it's just us being post-Crisis readers (and only really knowing Wally as The Flash), but I felt it was better that Barry "died" and had his legacy passed down. I mean, when you think about it, being runners, the Flash legacy lends itself metaphorically to the whole "passing of the [baton]" thing quite well.

Exactly. Never thought about that. But, just in general, that's how I feel about most superheroes, sometimes you need to pass it on. So, I was a little upset when I first heard about GL: Rebirth, I'm a big fan of Kyle, too.
