Hey, guys.

I need some help from the more knowledgeable listeners here.

Could someone go to Amazon.com and listen to the free snippets of Bobby Day's 1950s classic hit "Rockin' Robin" and tell me if either of the two versions available for download is the original 1950s hit recording, or are they both later re-recordings made by Day?

Thanks.

Re-recordings both, and both sound like sludge. Avoid avoid avoid.

Oh, BTW, Bobby Day's real name? Get this: Bobby Byrd.

Ack. Looks like I'm out of luck. Where can one find the original hit recording these days?

Dunno, especially if you've already checked the usual, legal, digital markets (iTunes and Yahoo and Wal-Mart, etc...). There's always the chance you can luck up and find one on a compilation somewhere in a bargain bin, but you have to be careful and read the fine print on the credits printed on the front or back cover, and even then, it's a crapshoot nowadays.

You can definitely find the original 1958 hit recording on the Rockin' Robin: The Best Of Bobby Day compilation put out in 2002 on Ace Records.

Myself, I have the original 1958 hit version on a 3xCD box set I own called "The Ultimate Rock 'n' Roll Collection". If you're just after an .mp3 of it, I could e-mail it to you. Just PM me with your e-mail address and I'll send it over.
