View Full Version : BIG EVENT, NEW INTERESTS: Final Crisis

Throughout the recent history of comics, events come and go that draw in entire universes of characters and storylines. Events have the effect of drawing new readers to follow certain featured characters (vice versa).
For example, Sinestro Corps War started my love affair with the Green Lantern universe & Superboy-Prime, who in turn motivated me to read Infinite Crisis (which I loved).
Has Final Crisis gotten you interested in characters you weren't interested in or knowledgeable about before?
For me, I have never seen into The Flash until the big hoopla about Barry Allen coming back (which motivated me to read Rogues' Revenge...which I am loving so far...read the 1st 2 issues). I definately want to get into The Flash universe but I don't know where to start. There's more than meets the eye with that character and he's like GL with various folks taking up the mantle.
Also, the Legion of Superheroes has come on to my DC radar screen. Loving that tie-in as well.

First off, I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed Infinite Crisis. It seems to me that the popular opinion is that it wasn't that great, but I loved it.
Because of Final Crisis, I might actually get around to reading Jack Kirby's Fourth World stuff.

Barry Allen, but more because of the final issue of Rogues' Revenge than the actual Final Crisis.
And maybe Kamandi.
Also, Super Young Team needs an ongoing series.
Well, does Super Young Team count?

Nah, a mini-series would be plenty.
Dan Slott should write it and each issue should involve one of them dying in a hilariously ironic, super-cool fashion.
I'd buy it.

No, I avoid events like the plague. The only ones that grabbed me and I liked were Marvel's Annihilation and DC's Sinestro Corps War.
Probably because I had vested interest in those characters.
I do have to say the Sinestro Corps War got me interested in Guy for the first time ever.

I don't know if they deserve an ongoing just yet, but I wouldn't mind seeing a mini series. And I still really like the concept of Big Science Action, and want to see them in a mini series too; although I think a Big Science Action: Year One series would be the way to go.
And if DC really wants to play with things... do them both as manga. Find a good mangaka who is willing to play with the concepts, but is also able to work within the DCU. And then release them in a format like the Batman manga that came out earlier this year.
Absodamndoodely.
Then SYT for me, them and probably Frankenstein even though he only had a short appearance

yeah that sounds like it could be great.
FC isn't finished yet so not sure who'll still be around at the end but the characters who've caught my attention from the series are the super young team, frakenstein and shade and also im keen to see what happens with the new captain marvel and tawny..

Revelations is the first time I've been interested in, or cared about, the Spectre. However, it's doubtful that interest will carry beyond the end of Revelations.
I am intrigued by Forseti's idea for SYT. That does cool, like a Final Destination for the DC Universe.

Loved Frank in seven soldiers of victory.
Grant said he'd been in the big battle they're having in FC

I'm definitely more interested in the Flashes. I want to know what key they hold in this whole story. I know Barry is somehow important. But is he the one who gets shot in the previous issue? I got a lil lost there. He was dead but somehow he outran death?? Is that how it is?

I had almost no interest in the Legion until I picked up Legion of Three Worlds.... now I want to go and try to find a bunch of back issues.

With me, it's quite contrary... the Final Crisis thus far has made me even less interested in anything New Gods or Seven Soldiers. It's just not my cup of tea. And all those obscure characters Morrison is dishing out are hardly long enough on-panel not to immediately forget them again.
So no, not this time: Except for Legion 3 Worlds, which is great so far, the whole event left me cold.
Not really, no.
Legion is awesome, but I already loved pretty much everyone in that.
Flash is a great story, but I'm afraid I've never really been into his rogues that much.
Spectre/Question is kind of dull and hasn't piqued my interest in them.
The main series doesn't give anybody enough focus to make me care about anyone.

No not really, but not because I don't like Final Crisis. It's about the only monthly comic I have any interest in following right now (and even then part of that is taking part in the ongoing discussion about it and the fact I've waited with too much anticipation to wait for the collection like I usually do). I'm just at the point where I'm constitutionally incapable of following particular characters as opposed to the creative talents on a book. So while Morrison's story and concepts interest me I'm probably not going to leap to Flash: Rebirth, especially since my limited experience with Geoff Johns comics has been unrewarding.

It gives me faith that DC's being given a vision of the New Gods that (hopefully) competent writers can continue writing them along the lines that Grant's crafting in FC.
Also, I've very anxious to see Barry Allen return to regular DC superheroics.
