I want to buy a pair of small speakers, bookshelf or smaller for my imac. I don't want to spend too much, maybe a little over $100 for a pair. I just wan't some decent quality to play my itunes library on. My computer is nowhere near my stereo & I'm not gonna run wire up a floor to do that so any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanx in advance - JDW

I've got some pretty nice Altec Lansing speakers. They were a bit more expensive than your budget, but they may have some cheaper models.

Logitech make good, cheap powered speakers as well.

I use Philips MMS321 speakers. You can view them here (http://www.consumer.philips.com/consumer/en/gb/consumer/cc/_productid_MMS321_05_GB_CONSUMER/Multimedia-Speaker-2-0+MMS321-05#/consumer/en/gb/consumer/cc/_productid_MMS321_05_GB_CONSUMER/Multimedia-Speaker-2-0+MMS321-05).

I wanted some small and relatively compact speakers that wouldn't cost the Earth but at the same time, wouldn't totally offend my audiophile sensibilities. Personally, these did the trick for me.

They cost me around £60 a year or so ago, if I recall correctly but I've just done a quick search and amazon.com currently has them for sale at $41.65. Click here (http://www.amazon.com/Philips-MMS321-Channel-Multimedia-Speakers/dp/B000FCN6SG/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1225236398&sr=8-4) to see them.

They're pretty good sounding computer speakers...a number of my friends have commented about how good they sound in the past. Of course, they're not really comparable to proper Hi-Fi speakers but then they're also a hell of a lot cheaper.

Having said that though, I might not listen to quite as much music on my computer as you do...I still listen to most of my music through my Hi-Fi. If you're going to spend the majority of your time listening to music on your computer, maybe you'll want to spend a bit more.
