This is one of the coolest threads ever! Kitty is my favourite X-men ever, and the first comic character I ever liked and actually got me into comics. I'm so happy to have found a thread just for her and would be proud to call myself a Kitty Litterer...
Welcome to CBR DizzyMixer...Hope you survive the experience! (*warm welcome* ) Glad to see she has fans on your side of the world as well! (of course, love for Kitty should be universal! )

I love that statue! I will be on the look out for it.

I know this thread doesn't get the type of circulation that other appreciation threads do, so I was wondering- maybe we should do a Kitty Pryde read-a-long.

I was thinking about starting with Kitty Pryde & Wolverine and then possibly doing Mechanix?

Kitty will be making her first appearance in Second Coming today. Very exciting.

really? What issue? :D :D :D

Thanks for the welcome, it was great to read that :) I'm quite sure I'll survive. Of course she has fans! I don't have tooooo many comic book friends over here, only one really, and so all my other friends try to shut me up. They've actually taken to calling me Kitty as soon as I start talking about X-Men. They think this annoys me, haha, it far from annoys me. :D Only problem I have is that my comic book store is low stocked and in the City where I hardly ever go, and it's REALLY expensive :( I mostly try to borrow my friends comics but now we have to wait for a order from America. :(
Can't wait to read more Kitty!

Quick question: What is the best Kitty pairing? So far I know of Kitty/Colossus, Kitty/Pete Wisdom, Kitty/Nightcrawler and Kitty/Avalanche (X-Men: Evolution).
Wondering what you all think...

Great idea! (although I'm so far behind in reading "current" stuff, my reading time may be best spent catching up on that). But I'd be hard pressed to resist a read-along on some of the Kitty classics (FF vs X-Men, Kitty's Fairy Tale, Cross Time Caper, just to throw out a few others after your X-cellent suggestions for the first couple of choices).

I just think it would be a fun little installment to keep this thread relevant and possibly entice other posters to participate. I will definitely start compiling scans and pulling out my back issues for this thing.

But question, which one to start with... Kitty Pryde & Wolverine or God Loves, Man Kills?

There is a charming story featuring Kitty and Wolverine in the final issue of Girl Comics No. 3, released last week. In it, Kitty celebrates her 21st birthday in a bar featuring an assortment of Marvel characters, including various X-Men such as Rogue and Gambit. Even Lockheed makes an appearance. The story was written and drawn by Carla Speed McNeil, of Finder fame. Very enjoyable and highly recommended for an amusing little 6-pager.

Mmm, Star Wars references. Surprisingly still relevant! Genuinely funny ending aside, I still think it kinda robs from Magneto's "oh god what have I become" speech when Kitty is totally fine afterwards. Apparently she can phase through Magneto's bolts(or something? Did it hit her or not?), but she can't phase through the X-men at the end who push her into the water.

Still great though, and Claremont's knack for fun antics after big dramatic events is in full force.

I don't think I'll ever connect with the 616 Kitty character again. I have instead really connected with X-Men Forever 161 Kitty. I love her costume, and I am intrigued by her story arc. I know people think XMF is mis-characterization of some of their favorite X-Men, but to me, XMF is letting the characters develop in new directions. With the popularity of such characters for decades, and the attachment many have to a specific vision of the character, of course there will be backlash. Thus, people think the changes in Kitty, Kurt, and Rogue are "out of character" when it's really attempts at further character development (although if it's not in a direction people like, it's labeled as trash). Drastic shifts/changes can cause some people to be disgruntled, I have experienced this myself with the Rogue/Kurt power switch, but once I got used to it, I'm actually liking this. XMF 2 #3 really captures whats great about this new "incarnation" of Rogue. Kurt needs more attention from Claremont, IMO. Plus, if I miss how Rogue used to be, I can read 616 books. Not too much will change with her there, the status quo will repeatedly be reset for lots of the iconic characters.

Anyway... I really like XMF 161 Kitty's new costume, adamantium claw, more offensive rather than defensive approach. I don't like the bone nails, but then again, I really disliked Kitty having an adamantium claw at first, but now can't envision the character without it.

I don't like the bone nails, but then again, I really disliked Kitty having an adamantium claw at first, but now can't envision the character without it.There's a few problems I have with that version of Kitty. One is the adamantium claw. Wolverine and those like him can use such claws because they have healing factors. The wounds close. It's never explained how she doesn't just bleed profusely while the claw is popped. And also she can't phase adamantium, so it transferring to her from Wolverine doesn't work either. And those aren't character items, but rather just issues of consistency with what came before.

But as I've checked in on X-Men Forever, it seems she's become more and more of a Wolverine substitute. I find that fairly uninspiring.

I'm not going to get pulled into defending the book, but everything about healing factors, bleeding, etc. has been addressed in the actual book, not a CC interview. I respect your opinion that she's like a Wolverine substitute, I somewhat agree. Kitty herself has expressed on panel how she's bothered that's she's becoming more and more like him.

Anyway, are there moderators on this board? I don't post that often. But I state my own opinion about how I appreciate a certain version of Kitty, and I am told (by Talisman) to GTFO (which I think means "get the f out")

No wonder CBR has a bad reputation. I will not be posting here again. Goodbye.

Kitty herself has expressed on panel how she's bothered that's she's becoming more and more like him.It wasn't expressed in the first twelve issues of the original series or the annuals (the only issues I've read completely). So, if it was explained, it took far too long to do so.

And even with the claw, there's no real reason for her to become like Wolverine. She's gotten increasingly angry or bloodthirsty. Did she acquire his berserker rage somehow, too?

Anybody else here reckon Kitty Pryde should lead her own team? I was reading NM #31 the other day (where she leads the NM in order to rescue Bobby and Amara) and there she shows some pretty awesome leadership.

And now for a random scene from Excalibur #11 (I think):

Hmm, if marvel printed that nowadays I wonder how much flak that they would get.

Probably a fair bit, which is sad. I don't like the uber politically-correct direction the world is taking nowadays. It is sucking the fun out of everything.

I personally really like Kitty's attitude with the whole thing. I wasn't offended by it at all, but then again: 1. I'm not black, and 2. I'm not American.

But even if you replace it with something that discriminates against me, say a sexist remark, it isn't offensive, it's quite funny.

For example: (imagine kitty pryde is a male talking to a female)
"You a mutant then Pryde, like him?"
"Gee, Sam, who said you could leave the kitchen?"

Its retro but all of X-clubs tech is outdated so its hardly surprising still I wish the helmet looked less like a fishbowl also does Kitty no longer require food.

... Why'd they bring her back if they're going to just rehash something she's been through but solve it worse? And is everybody too busy to make one simple phone call?

"Yo, Reed? Wassup? Yeah, Kitty Pryde can't unphase. Yes, again. Can you help? Ok, cool, when is good for you? Tuesday? Cool, see you then."

"Kids, calling people a "nigger" is bad."

"OMG THAT PERSON SAID THE N-WORD! KILL THE RACIST!"

Exatcly its all campaign style hit ads so the news story would read so and so said "nigger" to a group of school children today.

So true.

Just so I understand how bad the word apparently is if said by somebody of non-black ethnicity, how does it compare to the word f--k?

So much infinitely worse especially if a white person says with a white male being the absolute worst, "f--k" is so casual these days no one really cares even when elementary school students say it.

Wow. Here it has little to no impact.
I guess the equivalent word here is abo or coon, but nobody is like: "ZOMG DON'T SAY THAT!". Well, if you say the latter to their face you may or may not be in trouble, depending on the individual.

I'm guessing other racist slurs wouldn't be so bad? Isn't that just a bit racist there? =P
Like, somebody could call me a cracker and nobody would care... guess it has stuff to do with the whole slave and second class citizen thing.

I think that's one of the points CC was trying to get across. Hypocrisy is silly. Glad he made Kitty point it out.

The spacesuit is solid. And Kitty occupies the spacesuit.
The suit "contains" Kitty. So... read into that however you will.

The suit is physical, thus hittable.
She is in the suit. Thus goes where the suit goes.
Hit suit. Hit Kitty.

jeje nice reasoning:wink: but my doubt is if she is in a gaseous state inside the suit.if so it would be like hitting a baloon: it would deform were you hit it. (and then it flies to hell)
giving it a second thought maybe hellverine didn't hit her he just made a air draft(?) strong enough to blow her away!

Hello everyone! I was sifting through Cliff Chiang's blog and found this beauty!
Feast your eyes!

http://www.cliffchiang.com/page/4/#

And if I remember correctly we were discussing doing a read along well over a year ago and this thread is definitely dead so I will be starting X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills within the coming days! Make sure to find your copy of it!

EDIT- Apparently you can't link to the original picture so just scroll down. The sketch I was talking about is the one that features her costume from Uncanny X-Men #175

As far as I know it's because after Magneto brought her back in the big bullet she had been phasing during the whole Breakworld saga and now she doesn't have the ability to un-phase. The "space suit" has to do with keeping her contained and I'm guessing getting her in the books again more which I'm totally good with! :)

Hey y'all! Missed you guys! Was catching up on old stuff and realized that the second Bowen Kitty Statue never made it to the appreciation thread.

The original one made it once upon a time, but it looks like the link got obliterated, so here is it again:

But the even-BETTER one didn't make it (that I can see), so here it is to appreciate (as an appreciation thread should be)!

Thanks for bringing this thread back. It's been awhile.

The series your referring to is X-Men: True Friends. I actually borrowed it from a friend(How ironic), and I honestly don't remember how or why they went back in time. I'll have to check it out again.

Good. He saved her life.
As for the reason they went back, it was an accidnet. RAchel using the Phoenix power in the wrong palce led to some kind of mysical whatever and threw them back in time. More info here:
