I'm an avid eBay user. I regularly check every auction that goes through the graphic novel section of ebay.co.uk. I do have the same problem with these big shops though. I wish there was some way of filtering out the people who are charging more than Amazon though.
As it is, I have several sellers barred from coming up in my search and I've recently had to set it to only show auctions and not buy-it-nows.
I've also often wanted a "this is in the wrong category" button that I could hit.
I haven't got a whole lot of sympathy for people who get outbid by snipers. As far as I can tell the only people who lose an auction that they would otherwise have won are those who can't get the concept of proxy bidding. I often lose auctions in the last few seconds, but because I immediately go in with the maximum I'm willing to pay (generally if you're willing to wait you can get just about anything for £4-5 in the fullness of time) and if they outbid me it's because they were genuinely willing to pay more than me.

Ok...
I've used Heritage before and they have a VAST variety of stuff. Beware of the 19% premiums though when you bid. However, it's where I got books from Stan Lee's collection. So if you're willing to pay for it - here's where you can get it. That said, they also have near weekly auctions ending on Sunday and deals can be had. It's not ALL high grade cgc stuff.
All-Star is pretty high grade. It's fun to look at if nothing else.
Kermit's Pad is more like a Mile High store. You can buy stuff and get credits just for buying that you can use to buy more stuff. Pretty cool.
Comi Art Fans is great. For FREE you can set up an account and upload images of your comic art! Then, you can list it as being for sale if you want. So you can search, communicate, and bargain for comic art. Also, no fees.
Comic Link is a very good auction site. Mostly, but not all graded stuff.
Pedigree is similar. More friendly to sellers, as the fees there for selling ar less.
The others I think I just found after searching. I just wanted to post them to show that there are other options then ebay out there.
Obviously there are more to these sites than I just listed. For example, I got a great copy of FF #73 off of Heritage for like $20 I think. Also, I get AMAZING catalogs from them every time they have a signature auction that can retail for $50 a piece. We're talking high-quality glossy paper full of images of rare comics that the cover is the best part of and these I'll never own. So it's cool to have these things lying around.
But for original art, low-grade, GCG, etc... there ARE options out there. If you've got follow-up questions or are looking for something particular lemme know. I'd love to help!
