So, J.G. Jones isn't drawing the final issue.

Predictably, the internet is on fire.

Some people need to get a grip. There's obviously more going on than just "Artist ran late. We replaced him." I don't have any inside knowledge. Speculation is useless. But read Jones' statement carefully, and start guessing what his first project will be for Marvel in 2009. ;-)

The part that I don't understand is why didn't DC get Carlos Pacheco to finish the book? After the art mess that was Infinite Crisis, I'm surprised that DC editorial let this happen again on their big event book. So happy that I decided to sit this one out!

May I start a completely unfounded rumor with a response in the form of a question?

What if Pacheco didn't want to finish the book, in solidarity with his pal, Jones?

That's just crazy talk, I know, but stranger things have happened.

Ooh - it's Rick Veitch on Swamp Thing all over again!

I think it's just come to the point where JG can NOT do a monthly book. His stuff just takes too long. Put him in a Brian Hitch, John Cassiday, etc... kind of group where "you'll get it when you get it and like it or don't bother" scenario.

Oh, and FYI - My sources tell me that he's looking to do creator-owned stuff after this. We'll see....

We just don't know everything that's going on here. And J.G. Jones throwing himself on the sword opens up more questions for me. Jones will be going to Marvel or doing something indy next, I bet, and that departure from DC will raise more questions. Pacheco not doing the final issue raises more questions.

I'm not sure we'll ever know the whole story, but I know that the usual blowhard fanboy trolls on the internet are immolating themselves in response. It used to be funny to watch them burn, but now it's just kinda sad.

And then there's a rumor going around that one of Rich's blind items in this week's LITG is related back to this. . . Curiouser and curiouser.

Yeah, I'm sure it'll all come out if a few years. I got that info from a buddy that knows him personally - so I'd bet INDY in a heartbeat.

As I have no vested interest in Final Crisis, I could care less about the reasoning behind this change. I feel sorry for the DC Nation fanboys who are not getting the dream team that they were promised.

As long as the story is good at the end
and the art meshes well together,
who gives a rat's ass.

Hopefully DC will choose their next big event artist more carefully.

I think delays have hurt interest in the book.

JG should maybe concentrate on ogn's and such.
