Incidentally, since I wasn't paying attention -- I only just got around to looking at who won (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/14015) in the various categories. I'm quite surprised by most of the winners. Pleasantly in some cases.

Wow, at some of those winners... just wow. I can't say I'm shocked, but some of those... c'mon people, really?

personally i think those awards are bunk...they dont mean squat. how does a cgi image have a 'break out performance'? it's not even a real person.

at least HBII got some notice. 'course...that was prolly all of our voting :P

:P

Did you see Wall-E? It is an amazing performance, done by animators working through a CGI creation, just like Frank Oz worked through a little rubber and fabric puppet to create an amazing performance with Yoda, just as many actors for centuries on stage or screen have worked through elaborate make-ups and whole-head masks that weren't "real".

Granted, I'm not expecting lil' Wall-E to show up in the next Scorsese gangster flick or some hard-hitting indie drama  but I do think the animators expressed themselves in terms of acting and performance at an exceptional level using that little CGI fella. It's great stuff. And if Andy Serkis's Gollum is legitimate work, then so is Wall-E.
