Ugh to that Wolverine Omnibus, all those stories have been reprinted to death.
They should just go ahead with a volume 2 of the Best of Wolverine stuff and include stuff like Blood Debt, Not Dead Yet, etc.

Will be buying the Captain Britain stuff unless the credit crunch has gone up another couple of notches.
Anybody got the heads up on whether or not Tomb of Dracula will be out before Christmas??... it sort of strikes me that it would be a good winter read.

I'm still pissed off at this:
Joe, you're the reason I started reading comics again after a six-year break. I'm super-excited to be reading comics again!
I know you don't oversee the trade paperback department, but maybe you can answer this question. Are there any plans to put things like the New X-Men Omnibus and the Alias Omnibus and some of the older oversized hardcovers back in print, or am I forced to endlessly search eBay?
JQ: How's it going, Bryan? Glad we brought you back to the fold.
Look for new versions of the Morrison run of New X-Men already on shelves in TPB. As for Alias, 2009 should see some new printings. but you've got to snatch the Omnibus up when they come out, as they don't last long on shelves.
Then a couple weeks later:
2) Any chance we might get a reprint of the Alias Omnibus?
JQ: 2) Unfortunately the answer to that is "no" for now.

I just said "f**k it" and bought all the soft cover editions of Alias.
Marvel's collections department is very wishy washy with what they choose to reprint.

I'm sure it will surprise you all to know that I'll be picking up the Captain Britain Omnibus. Interesting choice of Issues though. I'm sure it will sadden quite a few to hear that the earlier few years of continuity are missing, the Spider-man Team-Up and the Black Knight/Captain Britain stories also. But, of course, you will be able to pick up the trades which Panini are printing which do/will reprint them, through Amazon if you're in the states.
Are these solicits off Marvel.com, Beast?

I'll most probably be getting the X-Men Omnibus Volume 1at some point but the next two essential omnibus purchases for me will be both the Secret Wars and Secret Wars II ones. I'm really looking forward to those.

I'll definitely get the Captain Britain Omnibus, if only for the Moore stories, which I've never read and are so rarely locatable. Not really interested in any of the others.
Still waiting for Uncanny X-Men volume 2.

If/When they do an Omnibus, it wouldn't likely be until there's a movie.
And it would most likely contain older material, such as the Jungle Action stories.

Yeah, I can see something like that happening and understand it happening. But damn, I'm sure there are many people out there who are interested in that run, especially due to the fact that only two trades were released and there are many other issues, tons, correct? And I'm dying to read those. (sighs) :frown:

I'm sure it will sadden quite a few to hear that the earlier few years of continuity are missing, the Spider-man Team-Up and the Black Knight/Captain Britain stories also.
While it's a shame the earlier stuff isn't getting reprinted, the Omnibus is announced as Captain Britain by Alan Moore & Alan Davis, so the chosen issues make sense. Personally, I'm just glad to see the Dave Thorpe and Jamie Delano issues included in this omnibus. The old Alan Moore Captain Britain trade really did jump in mid-story, leaving out Thorpe and Davis early developmental work that established a lot of the elements Moore worked with.
The post-Moore stuff is excellent and hasn't been reprinted in decades. I still have my old Captain Britain trade, but I've read it so many times that it's starting to come apart. Can't wait to get the whole series in HC.

The Jungle Action story really does need to be reprinted. It's definitely one of Marvel's unsung classics. I've been hoping for at least a "Classics" trade reprint, but to date all Marvel has done is the later Kirby work.

Probably not going to ever happen.
I could do with just the rest of the series being put into trades. Hopefully, Panini can come through with something along those lines.

Totally. Thorpe never gets the credit he deserves for those. So it basically looks like this volume will collect everything from after the Black Knight and Captain Britain stories in Hulk comic right up to the start of Excalibur. That's a lot of good continuity. It also doesn't tread on Panini's toes with their earlier reprint trades.
More neatly, of course, it prints every appearance outside of Excalibur of Brian wearing the Davis designed costume - the costume most people associate with the character. Everything before this period is the Red Lion costume, and as Panini continue to collect those issue both win out.
The post-Moore stuff is excellent and hasn't been reprinted in decades. I still have my old Captain Britain trade, but I've read it so many times that it's starting to come apart. Can't wait to get the whole series in HC.
Yes, the late 80s 'Before Excalibur... Captain Britain!' trade suffered from being printed on the paper it was. Mine too is quite battered. I'm perfectly willing to pay £50-60 to have this all collected in one place, and with a decent size ratio.

THE X-MEN OMNIBUS VOL. 1 HC
Written by STAN LEE & ROY THOMAS
Penciled by JACK KIRBY, JAY GAVIN, WERNER ROTH & JACK SPARLING
Covers by JACK KIRBY & ALEX ROSS
In 1963 the slow boil of the Marvel super-hero revolution exploded in a full eruption with a slate of new heroic adventurers that redefined comic-book adventure forever. Joining the Fantastic Four, the Amazing Spider-Man, Ant-Man, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man and Dr. Strange came the Avengers and an odd sister book featuring a weird assortment of brand new characters: Cyclops, the Beast, Iceman, the Angel, Marvel Girl, and the mysteriously-named Professor X. They were the X-Men, and little did anyone know that they would come to take the comic book business by storm. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby billed their new creations “The Strangest Super-Heroes of All!” and while their mutant powers were certainly weird, the binding concept of this band of heroes, a group feared, hunted and hated because the of prejudice of their fellow man was pure Marvel relevance, striking at the heart of Civil Rights battles of the time. So join us as we collect in this massive, painstakingly restored, archival volume as we recount the earliest adventures of the world’s most-famous super-hero team as they encounter for the very first time their nemesis Magneto, the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, the Juggernaut, Ka-Zar and the Savage Land, Master Mold and the Sentinels, and many more of Marvel’s greatest heroes and villains. Supplemented with a bevy of behind-the-scenes bonus material, critical and historical essays, and original artwork, this volume is a bona fide must-have for each and every X-addict! Collecting THE X-MEN #1-31.

It's interesting to see that Captain America 305-306 is being included in the Omnibus. This is a little known appearance by Brian that predates his X-Men appearances. IIRC, Paul Neary illustrated those issues.
