I heard about the deal made between Marvel and some TV production company to make a live action show about "Moon Knight" back in 2006 but still haven't heard about any release. Any news on this? Cause I can't even find it on Marvel's site

o.o I sure hope they don't come out with a Moon Knight series. Unless it was on HBO/Showtime/etc.

But I have never heard of it before now.

I remember hearing about it. i thought it was with the same production company that produced the Blade series...haven't heard anything since, though.

The idea of it being on HBO or Showtime is intriguing. If they could make it a cross between "Heroes" and "Dexter" it could be kind of good.

I think the show got put on the back burner because Blade:The Series was a flop.

Didn't he Japanese do some kind of Moon Knight show back in the 80's?

I think it was a Canadian company that optioned the rights. Another deal was also made for a Punisher TV series. Both seem to have fallen through and deservedly so.

I'd love to see Marvel do an animated MK film though. Just with GOOD animation, none of that frigging Japanese-style anime crap like Next Avengers.

Something in the style of the old Spawn series would be cool.

I actually think Punisher as a TV series would work--maybe better than as a movie (thus far)--as long as it was on HBO.

I'd rather just have a Spider-Man live action show, personally.

Japanese animation is good, I'll take it over whats been produced for western audiences any day.

Next Avengers was just plain old crap period, not anime.

I'm not sure there's much in that sentence that makes sense.

This looks like anime to you?

They should do a Moon Knight series, as well as the 100 bullets they were talking about.

The Next Avengers stuff isn't strictly anime but it certainly appears to be a riff on the japanese anime-style (or at least one of the styles).

I think there is a lot of great japanese animators out there. We just never seem to tap them.

Frankly, it would be cool to get an animation style in the vein of Olivier Coipel. That would be beautiful. I think if it's possible, we should adapt established comic artist work into animation.

Is Marvel still farming stuff out?

Don't they have their own production company now?

I knew I was going to step on a few toes with that anime comment. Sorry guys, but it's just not my cup of tea, and yes, the style was anime-influenced, as Mundungus pointed out. (I guess we're going to deviate from the post and rag on me for having a different opinion now?)

I like BugsySig's idea of the Spawn-style animation for a MK film. And re-reading all the old MK stories courtesy of the Essentials, I think there is a lot of good material in there for a live-action interpretation. Marvel will just have to work very hard for it not to look like a Batman knock off to the non-comic audience, I suppose.

As Mundungus raised the point of doing cartoons in the style of artists, what about the old Silver Surfer series? I always loved that show for the Kirby-style design. Does anyone know if it's out on DVD?

I thought the last I heard about Moon Knight series, which admittedly was a long time ago, it was supposed to be an HBO series. But I may be misremembering.

This a recent reply from Jon Cooksey from June 2008:

Sorry for the delayed response – I’ve been buried and I also had to check with Marvel to see what the secrecy level is about the series, and (not surprisingly) it’s high (same as the movies), partly because the series is still in development, and partly because we want to protect all the surprises! So all I can tell you at this point is that I was brought on last year to write a pilot and bible, and develop some additional scripts with a few other writers, one of whom is a lifelong Moon Knight fanatic (I grew up a comic book fan too, but didn’t discover MK till later). We’ve all had a great time working on the scripts, and I love the storylines we’ve worked out for the episodes and the series as a whole. More than that I can’t say without starting to give stuff away!

MK fans in the US won’t know the last series I did, “The Collector”, at least until it sells down there (hopefully this year or next), though you’ve found the site. MK would be done with the same production team, and JB Sugar and I are tentatively planning to head down to LA in August to work with Marvel on selling the series for US broadcast.

So much more I’d like to talk about but it will have to wait till later stages. Thanks for writing, and keep in touch!

Hi guys,

I emailed Jon Cooksey yesterday (10/6/08) just to see if he can give me any hope that the series is still alive and well. He responded..and within a day!

Nope, not dead at all. We’ve developed 6 scripts for the first season, and are talking to people in the US now about a US sale (we already have a buyer for the series in Canada). Could be some good news on that within a month or two. It’ll be a great series!

There's a better chance of continuing the comic if they go ahead with the series. If the series sucks is another issue entirely. I'm sure they'll cast Michael Jai White as the politically correct version of Marc Spector or something.
