Writer/Director Don Roos (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0740400/) has re-teamed with muse Lisa Kudrow for a new online series, Web Therapy.
Kudrow plays a therapist who has determined that the whole 50 minute session thing is really just self-indulgent, and has therefore boiled it down to 3 minute sessions.
The show is co-produced by Kudrow and Roos' partner, Writer/Director/Actor Dan Bucatinsky (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0117857/), and can be seen @ Lexus' lstudios.com (http://.lstudios.com).
Each episode is outlined by Roos and Kudrow, then she and her "patients" improv the therapy sessions. Among the patients is the brilliant Jane Lynch (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0528331/) probably best known for her work in several of Christopher Guest's films. The format takes Kudrow back to her Groundlings foundation, and really showcases her wit and abilities. For some, it's just a funny new series, for those who write, act, direct and produce, it's one more entry into the world of webisodes.
In some ways, this harkens back to the early days of TV. Lexus has their own website/studio/network, which is distributing the programming. It is branded with their emblem, and they don't need to deal with ABC, CBS, NBC, the CW, or Fox. This really is the future of entertainment, which is why the WGA struck last year, why SAG might strike next year, and why the AMPTP is so desperate to lock everyone out of their share of this new media market. The danger for the AMPTP is that the studios and networks they represent could end up factoring themselves out of the equation, which is a very interesting possibility.
