Hey all! This is the new assignment of the CBR Film Club. If your not familiar with how we do this, here's what we do.

- A movie is assigned
- obtain copy by any means
- watch movie
- form an opinion
- report
- repeat
- Bob's your uncle

The third movie we'll look at will be Eduardo Arozamena and Paul Kohner's Dracula (Spanish Version) (1931).

You can find this movie at all tangible and internet stores and rental areas.

Thoughts, reports, feelings, clips and funny quips about the film will be talked about here.

And most of all....Have Fun.

You have from Oct. 16 to Oct. 30 before the next assignment is planned.

BTW, you can find this version in the 75th Anniversary Edition or the Legacy Edition of Dracula.

Royal? The 1931 Spanish version of Dracula? Seriously?

This film club would probably have more people taking part in it if the choices weren't so purposely obscure and hard to find.

The Spanish Dracula is a great movie, but it is also a terrible choice for the film club.

I've got to be honest here and say that so far the choices for films have not been very good.

I would like to track down these films, but I don't have the time really. I would like to participate, though.

Thought I was picking movies because of their accessablity. I had a real list, but the avalibilty factor just sucks. It shouldn't be, but it does.

Gimme a second to do some research and I'll set a new movie up.

Might I suggest The Land Before Time 10? I find each sequel to expand my perspective on life.

You know, I never realized the Spanish version of Dracula was that hard to come by. I mean, it was part of that big Dracula Legacy Collection they put out a couple of years back that you can probably find cheap.

At any rate, of the two films it's definately the better made one. That said, it'll never be as enjoyable a film because it lacks what makes the English version magic: Bela Lugosi. If there was a way to combine the direction of this film with Lugosi's performance we'd have a truly great film.

Widely available on nearly every edition of the Bela Lugosi version. Got my copy 6 years ago. They were both filmed simultaneously. The English version was filmed during the day and the Spanish crew would come in at night.

This film is good and I actually like it a little better than the english version, however Bela is better. The Spanish version was able to get away with a little more skin (look cleavage!).

For sale brand new and still being pressed:

Perfect choice! Don't be too hard on yourself. Some people still don't know how to operate that fancy Google.com.

Sure, but is it likely to available to rent? Does anyone show it on cable? I mean, if you have to actually purchase a collection in order to find one movie, that's probably not a good pick.

Doubt it will be in store at a main outlet, small mom and pop's maybe.

Blockbuster and Netflix online rent it out:

I've seen the collection at the rental stores and for sale at something like six bucks in places.

It's not that hard to get your hands on.

I will agree with Royal. This movie is worth the time to track it down. I looked everywhere online thinking it may be posted somewhere to watch but all I could find was the English version.

It's been in a while since i've seen this. I remember thinking it was by far superior to the Browning version that we know. All the clunkers, all the flaws from the Browning version that was seen as "well it was early cinema, nobody knew how to do monsters movies back then". And "those were b movies" are exposed to be bad, amateur filmaking in my opinion. Because when you watch the Spanish version, with the Spanish filmakers, the flaws are gone and it's on the level of any non-genre movies of that time. Quality filmaking, quality dialogue, quality acting from top to bottom. The only element that the Browning had that was superior(and that's an important one) is with the lead actor, Dracula himself. While the Spanish version the actor was very good, he came off as just this mean man, while the English version, Lugosi is so weird, so alien, he gives off this outerwordly aura that shill the blood. He's in a sub-par movie but saves every frame that he's in. You can't take your eyes off him.

I will say this, the Spanish version of Dracula is in my opinion a far better film then the Lugosi version.

Another reason the Spanish version was better...Browning didn't direct the English version.

Fruend did.

"Ok people , now you all will watch the classic : Any Which Way But Loose . That Clint Eastwood classic where he plays Fido Bedo and has a beer drinking money named Clyde !
