...about his search for an understanding of his scientist father, who developed a theory about parallel universes. You'll have to check your local listings for the show, but it looks really interesting and makes a great intersection for music loving comic geeks like myself!
I'd love to hear what people think about it!

Is this on the fall schedule? I like the Eels from what I've heard. Is he estranged from his father. Do you have any particulars? Is it about his search for an answer to his father's theories or about an understanding of his father as a man and a father?

Thanks for the head's up, this definitely sounds like something I'd like.
Here's the website. (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/manyworlds/) It's on the Oct. 21 episode of NOVA.

as estranged as you an be, his dad be dead
its a great show if its the one which has been shown on bbc and before the eels gigs. his dad was one of the first to postulate on the possibility of parallel universes, his research was belittled, and it led to him becoming detatched.
quite an "emotional journey" for mark e., who comes acrosss as always as a reasonable deep, likable guy

Thanks for the link, Robb. I was too lazy to dig around for it earlier.
I really like a lot of Eels music. I first encountered them with Cancer For the Cure on a compilation sampler, but was only really aware of them with Jennifer Jason Leigh/Allan Cumming's the Anniversary Party, for which E was the Music Archivist. That soundtrack featured two great songs, Flyswatter and It's a Motherf:eek:er, both of which I really love. A short time later I found Bus Stop Boxer and several other songs which are in constant rotation on my iPod.
The doc looks really cool!

They played it at the concert I went to on their last tour - it's a good watch.
Interesting to learn about his history, and they do a pretty good job explaining the theory of parallel universes, and why it makes sense - you can almost understand it by the end.
Nice sound track as well.

The show just re-ran on PBS here in LA. It's a really interesting journey E takes. It's also an interesting look at what happens when a young upstart tries to go against accepted orthodoxy. I think someone at Marvel must've read his dad's paper back in the day, because their whole endless alternate continuities seems to be very much rooted in the theory.

I watched it on Tuesday and really enjoyed it. E listening to the tapes and hearing his father's voice again was a great moment.

I was just watching All My Loving yesterday, and there was something that struck me again, as it had with "Parallel Lives:" they have footage of a young, vital Frank Zappa, as as with E, he and Zappa's kids have a record of their lost parent. One of the things that was really hard for me when my Dad died, was that his voice was gone. He wasn't even on the answering machine. I'd give almost anything to be able to hear his voice again. Those tapes are a great gift.
