Super powered bears, Cranio, Truman Capote, gambling Cavemen and Carol Danvers parading around as "The Sentress" surprisngly enough.

Another fun issue.

All fun and games with a silver age twist, right?

Wrong. In the last story, Sentry tries to find out why all the superheroes have been avoiding him and it all turns out to be they were throwing a surprise birthday party for him! Cute and I was actually expecting it towards the end but I wasn't expecting what came next, the series has seemingly taken a bizarre turn with the strange appearance of the story morphing into a modern age Cranio taunting the Modern age Sentry while bizarrely telling him over and over again to "blow out the candles" while Bob is freaking out telling modern age Cranio he's not supposed to be here before things bleed back to retro and The Sentry seemingly calms down and overlooks what just happened as "drifting off".

There were some teases dropped that stuff like this was gonna start happening in the stories.I don't recall in what interview. It's all supposed to build to the final issue in the mini-series. I believe Parker teased that it was supposed to be an out for people who didn't like the silver age takes on the character. That they could write it off as all being part of Sentry's delusional mind. Or something like that.

I have some ideas about what happened, but this issue has really sold me on the series. Cranio's modern update looks pretty good, too, although I'm not too fond of the GG of G's modern hairstyle. :)

I forgot to mention it but the whole retro part of the story started to break down when Sentry noticed two different versions of Nick Fury walking around. Funny stuff.

It'll be a shame if this all turns out to be one big illusion and none of these adventures actually happened but I have to say I'm surprisingly intrigued now in a way I wasn't really before.

That's just brilliant stuff right there. Marvel needs to put Parker on a core book.

We had this discussion before, and that's what I've been saying. I want Parker on New Warriors!

You know, if I wasn't so sure Jenkins was working on something like it right now in secrecy, I wouldn't mind seeing Parker take a crack at a Sentry ongoing.

Sure, alot of this stuff is silly but a ton of old comic stories are, some of the best characters ever have been born out of them. Stuff like Cranio, I'd love to see how he would be handled as a modern day villian (and it looks like we're going to get to see abit of that).

The character of The Sentry is still pretty fresh, theres alot of freedom available to writers in carving out some of his history, supporting cast and rogues gallery.

Not sure how Jeff would handle the more manic and fragile aspects of The Sentry though, Jenkin nailed the fine line while Bendis has really went overboard hitting you over the head with "He's crazy! he's ****ing crazy!".

If anyone can handle it, it would be Jeff Parker. Just read Agents of Atlas to see that.

Anyone else wanna shout "PARKER!" everytime a thread about Jeff turns up.

"PARKER!!"

See, it's just perfect.

I'm loving this series. It's kinda surreal.

Plus, Carol Danvers as Sentress  *that could explain the S on her current costume*

What was I thinking?

I meant Fantastic Four. Could you imagine how great FF would be with Parker writing it?!

That floored me. Take away the cape and invert the colors and you've got something awefully close to her current outfit. And of course, carol would have no memory of this. ;)

While I'm no fan of the Sentry, I have to admit the idea of a caveman on Wall Street is pretty entertaining.

"It no gamble with Oogar, Oogar beat market five years straight!"

I imagine Madoff's pitches must have been similar.

I didn't pick up this series purely because my wallet is feeling the pinch since Diamond upped its prices to UK sellers. It sounds like I'm missing something good. Might have to reconsider.
