According to MM, Hellboy's story is about half over. My question is, has he found his arch nemesis? The Joker to his Batman? The Moriarty to his Holmes? (Sherlock, not John).

If so, who is it? If not, when do you expect him/her to show up?

I really believe Hellboy's true nemesis is not an individual, but rather his situation. When he ultimately comes to an end, it will be the one that he chooses...not one involving a singular enemy...it will be about his choice and the repercussions...

I believe in the first third of his story arc, Rasputin was his arch enemy. My take after Darkness Calls is that there will be a second arch nemesis, namely the Queen of Blood that has been re-awakened, and afterwards it's anyones guess. Has Mike, like Dave Sim in the past, planned out HB's entire life history so he knows exactly when the HB lifeline will end?

Unless Rasputin or Baba Yaga make a BIG comeback then i think no.

I would have counted Hecate maybe, but with recent events i think she will be more the BPRD's headache.

As for the blood Queen, i really don't see her surviving past the middle trilogy.

Not to get too cornball or cliche...but I'm pretty sure his main nemesis is himself. What bigger enemy could there be than the harbinger of doom?

With Rasputin´s soul freed from Baba Yaga´s nut, i´m hoping from a comeback.

I agree. Hellboy's arch nemesis is the responsibilities he carries as the bearer of the Right Hand of Doom.

Yep, I second that. In this sense I feel Hellboy 's existence to be more like Homers' Oddissey or Dante Aglieri's travel log: Hellboy seems so straightforward of character that his struggles and battles will be archetypical - like 'the thing to do basically' or better yet: "the way to go".
This straightforwardness I feel to be found in lots of folktales and most first-school storytelling: little time for philosophisin' for right or wrong and that mumbo.
A nemesis sounds a bit like one reversed doppelgänger keeping the other on edge. The archetypical oddissey-thing I try to describe, is more a whole outside world putting the hero to the test and shaping him for what he will become.
A world full of good, evil or anything in between, not with one single genius or a perfect foe but more real than that: the ego's are lesser to the greater scheme (except to fans of course :).

It looked to me like Baga Yaga ate the remants of Rasputin's soul for a last little bit of power. Hard to comeback from that.

Not impossible though.......

I believe Mike knows how his current existence ends and who'll be around when it does and the major markers along the way. He doesn't have a date for it because the length of each miniseries can change and there's always one shots and new story ideas. The guy is too creative to lock himself into a specific number of comics or stories.

I think Director of the BPRD will become his nemesis. Since he quit he is now their number one enemy. They can't afford to Overlook a big red demon on the loose, especially if he is gunna turn into the apocolypse incarnate.

Not really seeing it myself. Are you talking Movie or Comic Hellboy?

comics. The whole BPRD is gunna be after him When he starts to realize his destiny of being the world destroyer. So we will get an Epic Abe Vs. Hellboy issue. I can't wait for that to happen.

His servant took the nut before she could consume it, it´s with little things like that that Hellboy and BPRD uses to surprise us.

You never know.

To me it seemed that Rasputin's little nut was thrown into the roots of the world tree, or down into hell. He has been beaten down so many times it's hard to count, so it's very hard to imagine that he would return again. I interpreted that moment as his ultimate, pathetic, anticlimactic end.

I don't see that happening at all. Plus, Abe v. Hellboy isn't much of an "epic" fight, considering one is a fish-man and the other is a harbinger of doom.

I'm with Rick and the others--he's his own worst enemy, even with all the other baddies in the books.
