So after something like 10 years the MC2 universe finally comes to an end. While it initially, or ever, did not have the success of the Ultimate you can see some similarities.
I think Ultimately (pun intended) that the similarities is alternate universes; they just don't seem to work for long. Is Ultimate going to follow and maybe soon with Ultimatum...

One title being cancelled doesn't signify the END of the Universe, just the end of it's constant circulation. I'm sure we'll keep seeing it here and there.

I sure hope so.

No since most Ultimate titles actually sell pretty well.
They're cutting the fat (UFF, UXM) though. And really just adding big blockbusters that are sure to sell.

I personally see this whole Ultimatum thing slapping Marvel in the face later on. I understand that they need to shake things up, but comon, cutting UXM (yeah yeah, some people say the last few runs have been horrible), but just get better writers.
And comon, Ultimate Avengers?! We already have the Ultimates...who will be on the Avengers team? Argh.
The original idea for "Last Planet Standing" was to have Galactus destroy the MC2 Universe, but DeFalco and the fans got pissed off and rallied against the decision with a sales campaign that eventually led to the renewal of Spider-Girl...so instead, Galactus was stopped when the Surfer fuzed with him and took over his body. Marvel are also looking at options to keep Spider-Girl alive. We havent heard the last of MC2, it'll be back eventually in some form or another.
As for Ultimate Avengers...so long as Miller's on it and sees fit to amend all the s*it Loeb did, I'll be intrigued.

I kinda think what is going to happen is USM and Ultimate Avengers will continue on with little crossovers and minis. Then one day someone will attempt to write UXM Volume 2.
The flip side is that Miller writes Ultimate Avengers for a bit then leaves the title. It quickly drops in sales. It is canceled. USM is the last book left much like Spider-Girl was the last MC2 title. It floats for a bit until Bendis starts thinking about leaving. I just don't think he can stay on the title forever. Once he leaves and with no other titles running it will be then end of the Ultimate U. I give it 10 years at the most.

10 more years? or another 2 (to make it 10 for the Ultimate U)? Either way, it will be sad.

In other words, We Spider-girl fans will never let the MC-2 Universe Die that easy. :evilangry:

I was thinking 10 more after Ultimatum. That is a long estimate too. I really think that once Bendis and/or Miller leave the Universe there won't be anything to draw in readers.

Yes, they've already said that Spider-Girl will be the regular lead feature in the Spider-Man Family title.

Ah, I see.
As for the Bendis/Millar comment, I don't really think that would be a problem, as long as they are good. I mean, if some of the ongoings in 616 can stand bad writers, so can the Ultimate U.
What I think may have the biggest effect on the Ultimate U is freshness. I just think at one point people will tire of seeing a teenaged Peter Parker. Or if things like Ultimatum keep poping up, people may stop reading it. we've all come to expect huge events in the 616 universe.

Unlike Spider-Girl, Ultimate titles have proven to be bread winners from time to time (and thats not a slight against the MC2 universe).
Hell, Ultimate Origin's first issue did pretty well up against Final Crisis and Secret Invasion.
Theres still a good bit of interest in the universe. As long as Marvel remembers that and seizes the opportunity every lil while, it should stay healthy for some years more.

well dont be too harsh the ultimate titles are still selling well specially usm and i heard around that maybe for ultimate avengers (the new ultimates) the original writer from ultimates 1 and 2 is coming back or somehitng along those lines, hopefully anyways. i think they'´´ end uxmen but they might start ultimate wolverine or ultimate hulk or ultimate captain america... im guessing straight up that in ultimatum cyclops will die kinda killing xmen with it and iron man will die too (i mean he already has a terminal cancer right?) better end in battle.
and i hope ultimate universe doesnt end any time soon i started reading it about a month back and im almost finished with all the issues realeased and looing forward to the new ones

I agree about the freshness. I think Peter needs to age.
I really do think that even if the best writer in the industry came along and wrote USM that it won't survive much longer past Bendis. I think it is his baby and without him it will die. I think that has largely been the problem with Ultimates 3. Everyone had grown so accustomed to Miller that Loeb just did not live up to the expectations. I think the same will go with USM.
The question is when will Bendis leave. I heard around issue 70 or something that he had another 100+ issues already planned. If thats the case we still have another 40 issues or 3 or so years.
I think Bendis's stay on the title will be the make or break of my prediction.

Yeah, I think if Bendis left USM a while ago, it may do well in the long run, but this is the one exception, because he's written it for over 120 issues...Unless, of course, you find a writer who writes just like Bendis, then it may not be a problem.
As for Ultimates 3, I think it was because he didn't know how to write the Ultimates, and what to do with them.

Why does everyone keep calling Millar "Miller"??? I'm not really aknowledged in comics and their authors, but those two are really different people, no???

Thing is unlike ASG the Ultimate line sells well enough to make to the top of the charts and sometimes they even top the charts. Unlike ASG that doesn't even make it to the top100 charts. No offence intended to Spider-girl fans by the way.
It's alright, we got an unprecedented uninterupted 100 issue run and 30 more as a bonus, who's complaining? Longer than Preacher baby.

So, did anybody else notice that on the preview-freebie card thing for Ultimatum, it says something like "An end to a Universe"? Anyone know what this is about?
I heard a rumor that they were supposed to be merging the Ultimate U with 616 (I think). But I think thats BS.
But then again, what else would that mean, eh?
It'd be easier wouldnt it?
No, the Ulitmate Universe "as we know it" is just ending
