Pffft. MySpace? Nah, all the really cool authors have shiny, shiny websites with buttons and things that go clicky clicky. Come on, Gail. You know you want one. Do eeeet!

Quick reference, PR, and if it's a website like www.warrenellis.com, strictly for sick, twisted entertainment value.
Oh, and bonus if she includes a blog like www.neilgaiman.com. Just a good way to get her name out there, I think.

Which is a fine example of what I'm talking about. That is how I discovered Gail. I'm talking something more updated. A quick and easy reference for news, biography, etc. She has a new fanbase with Wonder Woman now, and it might help her visability if her new fans didn't have to mine YABS for information.

I've gotten the impression that Myspace and Facebook sites, as well as blog sites (like Blogspots and LiveJournals) have been taking over as the new personal websites for a while now...

True, but Facebook only if you have a Facebook account. Not as much with MySpace, but there's a certain cheesiness factor even with the best-looking MySpace page.

She just needs to register gailsimone.com and point it here:

Perhaps it's because she's so busy already... writing great stories for all of us to read!
It's a good idea, but I think Gail's already got her hands as full as they can be!

Gail doesn't need a website, she has us. We're better then some stinky ol' website!

If I understand correctly, Gail's said she's not that good with computers. She could hire someone to set up a website for her, but that costs money.

Um.... as someone who built her own site, and has to do the maintainence on it, I ask you.... are you volunteering to do the work?
On the other hand, it could be kinda cool to have a site with pages of things like covers of notable books she's written (like the covers of some of her Bongo issues). A calendar of where she's going to be heading during the year. A page of links to interviews......
Just a little bit of work there.

Exactly, she doesn't need to build a shrine to herself, when we can do it for her....if she wants to...and if we have time...ah heck with it, lets just open another thread in her name, its easier.

You keep saying these things in the present and future tenses. Try it in past tense.

as they are one of many new forms of advertising that businesses can and must take advantage of these days. I'm surprised Gail doesn't feel the need to have one as a marketing tool. If she doesn't get commision on the products with her name on them, then there's no reason to do it. However, if she does then there's a very good reason to do so.
We all know Gail loves her job BUT she's in it to pay the bills too. Listing the trades she's done that are in print and where they can be purchased seems like a good idea to me. I'm not familiar enough with MySpace to know if it can perform that function for her as well as her own separate site could.

I think SK's point on at least the listing of previous publications is that she has already done an index and it's linked in SK's signature.
Just sayin'.

Is Gail too sexy for the web?
'Cause I heard of this one case, about 15 years ago, where a guy was actually too sexy for his shirt. So this sort of thing can happen.

There is that. But SK has also done other things that haven't yet been made public. One of those things sits silently on my server, waiting for the magic word.
We've tried many magic words so far, from "Hulk Pants Activate!" to "Shut Up and Eat Your Grundy", but nothing works. Gail has apparently forgotten the magic word.

Have you tried "Reach arounds for everyone!"
That use to work back in the day.

We have tried awesomesauce as a matter of fact. We believe it's Gail that has to say it. And she needs to say it to Yahoo.

The Index hasn't been updated in ages. I tried to find someone to take over when my schedule got too hectic, didn't have any takers.
Once the other thing languishing in silence finally gets going, there won't be a need for the Index anymore.

According to GoDaddy, they've made dealing with Yahoo simpler, so it might be doable now.

I tried awesomesauce once, but it gave me food poisoning.

Stop imposing your version of time on me, you linearist!
Shel! Make Mac quit forcing his version of time on me!
I have the right to think of time in a circular fashion. If the Greeks and Native Americans can do it then dammit so should I!

I'm not forcing anything on you. I'm merely reminding you that you've only explored two out of three options.

Well in that case, I will be sure to have used all three at once.
