WARNING: SPOILERS!!!!!
WARNING: SPOILERS!!!!!
The Baby-Sitters Club: Claudia and Mean Janine (Graphix/Scholastic) - by Martin, Telgemeier & friends. Enchanting are these books, and they are not made for me and I never knew of the books by Ann. Raina has a way with drawing the characters in these books like no other. I've loved them since I first saw them, her art has an honesty and charm to them that I've rarely seen other artists able to capture. I loved all the extras at the end, detailing how the books are made. I am only sad in that I think this is last one they will make.
Gen13 #23 (Wildstorm/DC) - Beatty, Huddleston, Strachan. Backup by Gage, McKone, Lanning, Strachan. I have not gotten a Gen13 book in a while, but i used to be a big fan, they were like the x-men's second coming to me. They have not been good in a while. This issue was actually good. I liked the art and how it conveyed each little story and the individual stories were nice. But overall, the thing was just too darned short. If they had extended them a little, maybe a few issues or so, it would've given me a reason to care about the continuing books, but who knows...
Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane, Season 2, #3 (Marvel) - by Moore, Rousseau, Mari, Strain. I dunno what made me pick this up, but I did, and was impressed with the art. First honest time since the departure of Take. But where the art was okay, the story seems stunted, in a way. Nothing really reeled me into it and nothing differed from the stories that were presented previously.
Love and Capes #8 (Maerkle Press) - Zahler, Bokausek. I like Zahler's book, it's a little satire on the superhero genre, poking fun here and there. And the art is attractive. The one thing I felt though, was that the art seems to be swinging dangerously close to being too much computer art, making his talent less apparent.
I Kill Giants #4 (Image) - by Kelly, Niimura. From the previous issue, the feeling of dread disappears and I don't know where it went. It seems to come and go, randomly, in this book. This issue was calm, more in the world of 'us', even though it's apparent that the main character has problems. What was she expecting from Covaleski? Anyways, this story has much potential, I just hope it's not squandered in ridiculousness for ridiculousness sakes. The backup was fun again.
Flash Gordon #2 )Ardden Entertainment) - by Deneen, Green. I don't know what it is about this book that makes me love it's computerized art, but I do. It's gorgeous! Fantastic, and very cartoony, but I can't help loving it. The story needs a little cleaning up though. It's good, but could be better. And sometimes, it seems like the art isn't really matching what should be drawn for the words.
Wonder Woman #25 (DC) - by Simone, Chang, Tripp, Castro. Amazing cover! Love it! The opening was a bit confusing, as Gail seems to be taking WW all over the place in her latest issues with seemingly no rhyme or reason. But this was enjoyable, once you realized what was going on. ha!'s art on the back page with all the little DC children is awesome! I want more!
Secret Six, v.2 #2 (DC) - by Simone, Scott, Hazlewood, Wright. Good story, but I don't think Batman was really captured fairly there. I don't know how he's supposed to be or in comparison to Catman (I forget), but the fight seemed set up, very pointless, with each trying to outwit the other, where no one was the winner. It was like watching a snobbery fight between two experts on a subject that is boring and neither is superior.
Action Comics #870 (DC) - by Johns, Frank, Sibal & BIT, Anderson. This was okay. The art was good as usual, but the story, plot and all was wonky. How Brainiac comes back or gets hurt is all odd considering how this all started. The fact that his last, vengeful moment meant sending a missle to destroy a wooden house was barely accomplished, seemed ridiculous. Did Supes up the fortifications of the family ranch? That B was actually put down by the thought of microbes was finally the end of this silliness.
Knights of the Dinner Table magazine #143 (Kenzer and Company) - by Jolly & Co. More good stuff on adventure gaming by these folks. ;)

No US stuff for me again, this week. Diamond has decided it's time for one of their rare triple-shipments next week.
In the mean time I got some German and English mangas...

...and yesterday I made another shopping trip to Belgium where I bought mangas...

... and French comics.

I especially liked the manga "Usagi Drop/Un drôle de père/A strange sort of father", of which there is a 20-page preview here (http://www.akata.fr/prepublication/drole_de_pere/index.htm) (cover (http://www.akata.fr/images/catalogue/couv/drole_de_pere_01.jpg)).
BTW: "Miss Pas Touche" is offered in the October Previews, by NBM, under the title "Miss Don't Touch Me" (http://www.nbmpub.com/comingup/comaug.html) (I only hope they don't actually print it in the radically changed colors they used for their sample pages).
