View Full Version : Mother 3 (Earthbound 2) Fan Translation almost done.
For anyone who doesn't know, a group of people have been working on a homebrew translation of Mother 3 for what seems like ages now, and it's finaly finishing up as they are in the last bit of testing.

They won't provide you with a rom, or an emulator, but there is information on how you can get it to work if you happened to come upon them, or had an actual copy of the game in it's original form (for whatever reason.)
Just for a little extra info, this has been a huge process, as translating a gba game doesn't just mean changing japanese to english, it also involves hacking the game so it can display english text. The translation was handeled by a few people who have done some pretty big fan translations in the past, and the "lead" on the project has actually done this for a few retail games, and been legitimetly paid for it.
So Earthbound fans rejoice, we are finaly getting our sequel that nintendo has decided we didn't need.

I can't believe Nintendo decided not to release this here, but yet they put Ness in Smash Bros.
At least the USA is finally getting a Nintendo Club.

Although theyre not providing a Rom I expect there'll be one around somewhere once this is done! Can't wait. Good on them for the hard work!

The rom has been very easy to find since it came out in japan.
So..while we can;t link it here, anyone with access to google can grab it.
And it came out today, and it's a great translation thus far.
And this soundtrack is fricken awesome for a videogame, especialy since it's a gba game.

I was gungho about it till I saw this today.

"Step 0 Import a copy of the game, if you can find one. It’s not cool to brazenly pirate stuff! Itoi, Nintendo, HAL, and Brownie Brown worked hard on this game. Can’t find a copy? Consider buying some official merch (below)."
So basically they are saying "hey import the game (not that it matters since our translation only works on ROM's) but if you cant, then buy some of our cool stuff in our store and it will make your illegal actions just fine!"
Bunch of greedy sob's. One thing to just say "hey we worked hard and any donations are appreciated", but to just try and be so blatlantly unslick about pimping your merchandise is down right annoying.
I know its free, but I wont even give them the satisfaction of downloading it free from them and giving them a hit, I just got both off a torrent site and playing it already.

Um, did you look at the links they gave?
That is not their merchandise, it is Nintendo stuff, like copies of the game, the soundtrack, clothing, all licensed by nintendo...none of it is their merchandise.
Also, you can do it with an actual copy of the game.
So try actually looking at whats going on before flying off the handle and crapping on some guys who have been working on this, for free, for 6 years.
So, no, basicly what they are saying is "If you don't want to get a flash cart and learn how to put a japanese copy of mother 3 on it, but something nintendo made that would show support for the series."

Never cared about Earthbound but this reminds me...the worst review I've ever read in my entire life was about this game.

The guy who creams over any and everything that comes from japan?
It was in Play magazine.
So yes.
It was in Play magazine.
So yes.
If i can give one thing to play, it's that i think one of the original dudes from Die Hard GameFan is doing it, and if remeber my childhood right, Gamefan was one of the first magazines that was pimping everything japanese.
Yknow, before we had cartoon network and pokemon.
So at least he's staying true to his roots. (But no, that wasn't the review i was thinking of.)

I still own Earthbound but haven't played it since it first came out. As a result I can't remember a damn thing about the game and that's scaring me as I put many hours into it.
