 Yeps, it's as shitty as EVERYONE knew it would be. I'm perhaps one of the most ardent DBZ fan you'll ever know and even I must say this look like utter low budget garbage. See for yourself and leave your inevitably negative comments. (There may alread be a thread for this movie but I couldn't find it. And to be honest I didn't look very hard).

Actually, that trailer makes me cautiously neutral. A successful Live Action direct adaptation of Dragonball, even just one of its sagas, is impossible. They're only chance is taking the general concept and making their own thing with it. They'll have martial arts, fighting, and chi blasts, but that'll be about it. It looks like that's what they are doing. At least most of the cast is asian--but that just makes the white goku seem even dumber. I'm surprised they have Mai in there.
I have no idea if the movie can be good or not; but again, any movie that directly took Dragonball and just made it live action would ultimately fail. The only chance of this movie being good is if it's its own thing, its own vision if you will. It looks like they are trying to do that, as well as keep the cast of characters low--though leaving Krillin out is WTF crazy!
They could have made it a lil more like Dragonball I mean jeezus. Why not just make it some original product.

The trailer keeps getting removed. I saw it on that same website like two weeks ago, then on youtube, then Superherohype again, and they've all been taken down. Kinda dumb, I wish they'd just hurry up and officially release it already so I can see a decent copy.

You know even if Goku were cast as a Asian I saw no hope in the Live Action version being any decent.
The only question is will this version be as bad as the other live action Dragonball movie.

Maybe the film makers saw how bad the trailer was and decided to remove it for damage control purposes.

It wasn't quite bad. It just wasn't good. It was bland, generic, and didn't look a thing like Dragonball.

I never watched much dragonball mind you, but did the show have mustangs and guns in it?
From what little I know the title, goku having funky hair, roshi wearing a hawaiian shirt, the character names and a dragonball are the only thing it seems to have in common with the show.
It just looks very boring, bland, sterile and kind of generic looking to me. Also seems way to late, dragonball hasnt been real popular for awhile now.

Given how I knew this would be bad from the beginning Im just avoiding this movie all together.
Why they couldn't just make it CGI Animated Movie is beyond me, Dreamworks could have made a good CGI DBZ movie on this

There's like 100 animated DB/DBZ movies that're just fine. Not sure why fans couldn't be content with that. They wanted to live action--here's what you get.

SEANPiccolo look more like a light lime green to me.
I can see these guys are trying to do the bast they can with this movie, but DBZ simply cannot be made into a respectable live action movie. Grounded on what footage we've seen thus far, everything looks laughable at best. The opening sparring scene in the lastest trailer alone is too silly to tolerate.

What the hell...
"I'm not ready for this!" What, is this a damn Yamcha movie, instead of Goku?
Looks like it. In fact, this looks like Yamcha's dream movie if he was the main character of Dragonball.
Bulma's a hot gunslinger, a significantly younger looking Roshi trains him (and is played by the especially un-creepy Chow Yun Fat), another old dude (better be Grampa Gohan) trains him too, Chi-Chi... if that's Chi-Chi, is his age.
Some other dude may even be playing as Yamcha, but in his dream, it's Goku.
He always had it in on Piccolo, so he gets the exaggerated villain role (now which Piccolo is the question. I better hear Demon King Piccolo coming out of their mouths, or this goes from rental to pirated from a friend.)
And a hot villain shape-shifter to boot.
This sounds like a Yamcha Elseworld/What If/Fan Fiction.
But no. That dude is GOKU! Wow... well, I never had faith in this one anyways. Missed their chance years ago, when they had the dude who played as Liu Kang (Robin Shou, I think?) as Goku during the scripting.
It should be beautiful either way, but yeah, hopefully it'll make a lick of sense.

Because it aired in between two other cartoons that I actually enjoyed, I endured a lot of episodes of the Dragonball Z cartoon. And I thought that it was terrible. Very decompressed story-telling, compounded with occasional filler like those scenes where people would strike dramatic poses and then just hold them for awhile. The dialogue had all the subtlety of children who don't understand the concept of the "indoor voice." And there was a high degree of repetition, in plots, in fights, in pretty much every aspect of the show. The idea of turning that cartoon into a live-action movie and somehow expecting quality? No, just no.

The original comics run of Dragonball I could enjoy. The tv show was full of guys with constipated power ups while screaming. I have a suspicion there's only going to be one constipated power-up in the movie, though. It will be more, uh, dramatic that way. :)

This is based on the original Dragonball, the much better prequel to Z.

Oh, and the mangas are much better than the TV shows. This is mainly because they were done nearly the same time as each other, and because the creator was pretty slow with his work, TV show "needed" filler and really decompressed episodes.

No, it's really not like that.
There is a significant difference between DB and DBZ. From story structure, goals, fight structure, adventures, mood, tone, themes, everything except some of the characters.
Even some of the characters were retconned. (piccolo)
They may be within the same universe and such, but they are completely different beasts, story wise.

Wasn't the original comic only ever called Dragon Ball, from beginning to end?
There's no denying the tone changed the longer the book went on, but there's no clear demarcation point. The final fight between Goku and Piccolo was much closer in tone to the arrival of Raditz than it was the earlier DB stories.

True, the original comic was only called Dragon Ball. The English version makes the separations like the anime did. However, JOJOs Bizarre Adventure is only called JOJOs Bizarre Adventure, but you cannot deny the changes that happen throughout each part. (I know, different main characters and time periods, but still)
Now, which final battle are you talking about? Because the change in tone was more clear in the tournament when Goku was older and fought against DBZ Piccolo (or Piccolo Jr. some call him). The final DB fight (everyone against DK Piccolo) was still very Dragonball-ish.

I meant the tournament fight. But even going back to Big Daddy Piccolo, the tone of the book was already starting to edge into Z-ishness (if only slightly). Main characters were killed, power-up maguffins were introduced, etc.

This movie is going to be awesome. The nitpicks are only of little trivial things that don't matter. For instance, early on I heard complaints about there not being any talking animals, or dinosaurs. WTF? Why do they matter. As for Goku being a teen & not a kid, the way I see it is that I'd rather have a young adult portray a kid than a toddler or the like portray an annoying brat. Kids can ruin big name roles, it's happened plenty of times. Also, Roshi not being a perv is great, I was always annoyed with the fact that he was portrayed as this pervert. People are also complaining that Goku doesn't have super long hair, but you have to realize how ridiculous that'd look on film, and if they had gave him the long hair, everyone would still be whining.
I'm a big fan of Dragon Ball/Z/GT, but these changes don't really bother me.
