I'd say "Little Miss Strange," with Noel Redding doing the lead vocal.

Love and Confusion.
Though what on earth is an underrated Jimi Hendrix song?

It's not "Purple Haze" or "Foxey Lady" or "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)," that's for sure.

Yeah, that's what I mean; Hendrix songs that are marvelous but that not a lot of people seem to know about.
I think "Dolly Dagger" should get an honorable mention, also.

Everything but Little Wing. That one gets just the right amount of love.

"May This Be Love" or "Waterfall", from his 1967 debut album. I feel that cut is under-rated and yet is one of my favorites. I just love the guitar solo that ends the song.

"Waterfall" wasn't on any version of Are You Experienced? I've heard, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a track on something out there.

"May This Be Love" and the so-called "Waterfall" are in fact the same song. "May This Be Love" is its correct title but I think david r gave it an alternate title because some people may think it's actually called that. I don't think he meant that they were two seperate songs.
Anyway, back on topic, my favourite underrated Jimi Hendrix song is probably "3rd Stone From the Sun". I love that track but it doesn't get its due in my opinion.

The longer a jam goes on, the more likely someone will quote that lick.
It's basically Godwin's for guitarplayers post-1968.

I nominate "If 6 Were 9".
Honorable mention: "Castles Made of Sand"

That is the song I meant. "May this Be Love"! Thank you, good sir.

That is another favorite of mine, too! I just love that psychedelic/jazz feel on it. Hendrix's guitar playing with his incomprehensible "talking" in the background. I once saw a local band play this tune live and fast and it remains of fave.

... his incomprehensible "talking" in the background. If I remember correctly it's dialogue recorded at normal speed and then played back really slowly.

I like Red House, although I'm not sure if it's considered underrated.

Since I haven't seen it being mentioned much, I'd say it's at least somewhat underrated.

I was just about to bring it up!
I think that Red House makes up for being fairly unknown by the general populace by being incredibly well known by musicians. There are four bands in my area called Red House off the top of my head.

It's not underrated by me. It may be my favorite song on Are You Experienced?

Given that it seems to be THE choice Hendrix song for blues rock musicians to cover over and over until its reduced to the level of hoary cliche, I'd say that "Red House" is far from underrated.

I'll also throw out "House Burning Down".

I agree with "May This Be Love," as well.
And a very close runner up, "Drifting" from First Rays, which is probably only underrated because it was released so long after his death.

Actually, "Drifting" wasn't released that long after his death at all. It was first released on the "Cry Of Love" album which came out in March 1971, only about six months after his death.
The tracks that Hendrix was working on at the time of his death (for a planned double album called First Rays Of The New Rising Sun) were all released in the years following his death on a series of posthumous albums designed to cash in on his legacy. These albums were "Cry Of Love" (1971), "Rainbow Bridge" (1971) and "War Heroes" (1972).
The 1997 compilation album "First Rays Of The New Rising Sun" (which I believe is the album that you're referring to) was the first time that the cream of the tracks recorded for this planned album were compiled as an approximation of what the double album may have sounded like had Hendrix lived.
I'm such a nerd.

Sure. Just like always, you have to show up and crash the party of us melodic misfits with your impeccable musical knowledge. To the likes of you, all I have to say is "Freebird!!!"
