In the old Earth-1 continuity, Batman occasionally attended meetings of a group called The Mystery Analysts of Gotham City. One of its members was a female mystery novelist named Kaye Daye. As far as I can tell from online research, she has not been heard from since well before Crisis on Infinite Earths, and the same statement MAY apply to the entire club.

Does anyone know of any Post-COIE story that told us anything about Kaye Daye and/or any other members of the Mystery Analysts of Gotham City? Or has the entire concept of that club just been left floating in limbo for over two decades?

I could be wrong, but offhand I can't recall the Mystery Analysts being seen anytime after the "New Look" period (1964-1969).

As far as I can tell the last appearance of the Mystery Analysts was Batman #295, January 1978. Nothing post-COIE.

As an interesting side note, Kaye Daye was Steve Lombard's aunt.

I ran across those things you mention in my research before I posted this. Incidentally, it looked as if the Kaye/Steve family tie was only established in her last Pre-COIE appearance in "Superman Family #205" in 1981 -- although I concede that this doesn't necessarily contradict your point about the last appearance of "the Mystery Analysts" per se, as an entire group of characters using that collective name, occurring a few years earlier.

I was wondering if someone else would say, "Wait! I know a case that didn't make it into the standard online databases about old Batman continuity! The Mystery Analysts were involved in a story in "Legends of the Dark Knight" in the late 90s!" (Or whatever.)

I asked on this forum and two others, and no such thing has occurred. So I guess I was right that Kaye Daye et al. simply haven't been heard from in any way, shape, or form since before the transition to Post-COIE continuity! I figure it's reasonable to assume she still exists, though, in the absence of any real evidence to the contrary.

With that in mind, earlier today I went ahead and posted (on fanfiction.net) a new chapter of a Batgirl fanfic in which I have someone briefly refer to the idea that bestselling author Kaye Daye is currently away on the West Coast. (So he kidnapped a different author who also lives in Gotham -- long story, okay?)

I just remembered an interview with Mike Barr in which he mentioned how he'd sometimes rewrite issues of Brave and the Bold scripted by Bob Haney when he came to work for DC towards the end of the 70's. Barr recalled that he would "try to shoehorn aspects of other Batman stories into Bob's scripts that didn't belong, causing one fan to exclaim that he didn't even know that Bob Haney knew about the Mystery Analyists of Gotham City". I don't know of any appearances the club made in Brave and the Bold unless Barr simply had Batman toss in a passing reference to the group that I've forgotten about, but depending on how Barr snuck them into the story, there might be an issue of Brave and the Bold you might want to track down if you haven't already (And yeah, it'll be close to 30 years old, but I don't think you'll find a post-Crisis reference to the group unless Grant Morrision has something planned).
