One of our favorite Brits talks about X-Men: Legacy, Original Sin, Manifest Destiny and more!

I wonder if the earthquake at the X-summit inspired them to have Avalanche, Magma, or a repowered Rictor do the same to cause conflict with the X-Men in San Francisco?

Hmm...

I love Carey's writing. However, I just can't really work up any excitement about Wolverine right now. Get on with it and get to Rogue.

For real, my ears only perk up at the mention of Rogue where Mike Carey is concerned. Everything else just feels like background noise.

I buy Legacy to support Mike Carey's X-book, but I can barely stand to read about the boring Charles Xavier each month. Having Juggernaut and Wolverine show up soon will help, but I consider dropping this book from my pull file every day because I can't take much more of Xavier's boring adventures. It's not Mike's fault Xavier is boring, he's doing the best any other writer at Marvel could do with Xavier. Legacy needs to shift focus on Rogue very soon, or I may no longer be able to support one of my favorite X-writer's book by buying it.:frown:

I like Mike's comments about characters driving the narrative in the end. I think that's in large part why his stories just "click" and feel genuine in a way most X-writers don't.

Seriously! Considering how much Mike Carey claims to love Rogue, he sure doesn't get around to writing her very often. He made her completely awesome in one arc, then put her in a coma for 12 years and then she disappeared. If this is what he does with a character he loves, I would hate to see how he handles a character he's not interested in.

And as much as I have tried to like XM:L, God, it is boring. It surprises me that a writer as good as Carey can write such a dull, dull book.

I'm not interested in reading Professor X's past link to Logan. Daken might as well be Feral; again not interested.

I am interested in reading Carey's work, though. Carey always makes a good case for stories he's writing. I hate him for making me want to read about Charles and Logan.

I really like the tempo of Carey's books. I don't need a lot of action and I like wordiness. I'm a book person what can I say?

Xavier is a little boring to me because I don't really like him any more the superficially.

I think a book like Carey's is needed to sort out a lot of the fast paced, contradictory stuff that has happened previously.

However, I may be sucking up to Mr. Carey as he is Knight In Shinning I Swear I'm Going To Do A Rogue Arc I Just Have To Shove it Back A Few Months To Do A Pointless Wolverine Arc.

I was most upset that he didn't talk about Rogue's upcoming epic return. He must be tight-lipped for a reason. If it doesn't get pushed back...again  ...I know her return is just going to blow my mind.

I'm glad I'm not the only one impatient for him to bring Rogue into Legacy to spice things up!

Says Mike Carey:
"Bobby is interesting because in spite of what I said earlier, Bobby sometimes seems to follow a character arc which is cyclical and self-contradictory. He's become a veteran, and then he drops back to being the wise-cracking locker room joker character again. That was something I wasn't happy with, and I tried when I made him one of my core cast in X-MEN to emphasize the fact that because he was there from the start and because he is effectively an Omega-level mutant, he is part of the backbone and core of the team. He has as much to offer as anybody in terms of strategic skill and raw power. I wanted to go back to what I thought were the best aspects of the character."

Carey doesn't have enough clout to get that team. Whatever his cast is after Legacy is finished it'll be made up of all the characters that no one else wants.

That's not how it works. Astonishing and Uncanny have the same teams right now. Well, plus one. The point is that Carey deserves a team, period.

That is how it works. Every since they went to 3 corebooks in 2001. There's been a pecking order, and even then no writer has got the cast they asked for.

Astonishing and Uncanny may have virtually identical cast's, but Marvel aren't going to extend that same cast to 3 books. Ellis, Brubaker and Fraction have the cast's they want. Carey gets Rogue and either Iceman or Cannonball (he said that he would lose control of one of them post MC) and anyone else who's left that the other 3 core writers don't want.

I wouldn't say that the writers don't want certain charaters. Its about who they do want. They choose carefully. Though, their are certain characters that have to be used because of the direction they are taking. I see what you mean though.

He lost Sam immediately due to YXM, it's pretty clear he's still in control of Bobby and Rogue. Sam's involvement in YXM has run it's course though, so I wouldn't see why he wouldn't get him if he wanted him?

Cannonball, Rogue, Iceman, Husk, Northstar, (Aurora?) and Xavier... that alone could already be a pretty compelling lineup. The only people I think who'll be totally off-limits are the core casts who're spoken for in Uncanny/Astonishing (ie: Cyclops, Emma, Beast, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, Angel... and uh, Armor and Pixie I guess). I think even the peripheral characters like Karma or Dazzler might be doable if Carey wanted them though. The one I'd really like to see him get is Psylocke, but it seems like (suddenly) everyone wants her. :/

I do agree though that Carey seems to be 3rd in line when it comes to selection (just like last time, ugh). I kinda doubt he could steal from YXM, X-Force or X-Factor at this point either honestly, though I'm not sure he'd want to really.

From the way Carey describes it it sounds like he was initially planning on a friendly conversation, then as he was writing it realized that the story didn't match how the Juggernaut would actually respond. Tieri's handling of the Juggernaut was exceptional so I don't think it's realistic to hope for a portrayal up to that level. But it seems like Carey at least tried to take the Juggernaut's character into consideration when writing a story with him. If that's the case, then he's already a couple steps above...that other writer you mentioned.

I'm at least a little curious to read this now though I can't think of anything Juggernaut and Xavier really have to talk about anymore at this point.

I like the number five, but Iceman probably should stick around.

With Emma around, I wouldn't see a need for Psylocke. I hope Psylocke joins MI:13.

Scratch that. After getting up to speed with the series I see their conversation may be quite interesting. That's a big "may be", but Charles walking into a bar and asking to read Cain's mind? That little thing Cain hates him for? Now that could be fun...
