I hate this character and usually just seeing her stupid face is enough to ruin a story for me.

I'm not a fan of killing characters, but she really has it coming.

Readers have become incredibly cynical about characters being killed off and rightly so. For that reason I feel it would be best to make her death off-panel, and a non-event. She's killed in a car accident or something. The funeral and grieving should mostly take place off panel too. Maybe a tribute in the bat-cave, just because people flipped out when Stephanie Brown didn't get one, and I'd rather people adjust to the idea of Babs being gone ASAP. The memorial will help them come to grips with her demise and move on. OYL would have been a perfect time to get rid of her, too bad they didn't take advantage of that.

Birds of Prey (a book I've heard a lot of good things about, but have never read because I don't like Barbara AT F'ING ALL) is getting on in years, so with Babs gone, I have an idea for that book too.
Birds of Prey has always sounded like the name for a villain team. I'd like to see it like Charlie's Angels, with the Penguin as Charlie, running a team of hot villain bitches (the line up could change every so often).

riiiight. you're suggesting an idea that's designed mainly to please yourself personally it seems. beause alot of of fans would flip out if a ) barbera died, b) for no other reason than we hate her stupid face and c) she died in the manner you desribe.

also there's plently of characters you don;t have to like but you can always just avoid reading books they appear in. why you would want to kill of a charater that has no effect on the books you're reading makes me wonder. what has she ruined lately for you, not much I'm guessing

i think ending the joke with the paralysis and wheelchair should be the first thing that needs to happen to Barbara.

So, just because you don't happen to like a character who's immensely popular with the majority of readers, she should be killed off. And a book which sells well (and which you've never read) should be changed to fit your whim. Righhhht!

Have someone replace her entire network with 56k dial up.
She'll die waiting for information to come on the screens.

A character from the Silver Age loved by many and hated by... One guy that I know of? That's easy, have Grant Morrison kill her off camera as a plot device with no purpose other than to show how badass the villain is. Then have a better written tie in featuring her story, how she died featuring her funeral.

(Yes, I'm aware that Killing Barbara Gordon because someone dosen't like her is a ridiculous Idea, but I'm not going to pass a chance about Final Crisis and the Death of Martian Manhunter)

I don't know what is worse... The notion that you think a character should die just because you don't like her, or that we were both in a thread earlier today talking about how hard it is when a character we like is obliterated for seemingly no reason.

A lot of people hate people who are disabled for whatever reason.

I don't really care much for Superman. Can we kill him off too? Off panel too so there aren't any books I should buy to keep up?

Seriously though, why the hate? It sounds like you aren't even vagualy familiar with the character since you flatout refuse to read some of the best stories DC has ever printed (Gail Simone's Birds Of Prey).

At the very least joe27 gets a grade of "A" for button pushing, right? He targeted a topic which he knew would irritate a lot of people fairly automatically and zoomed right in on it.

I love the character in BOP but hate her other dc books she appears in especially the batbooks. Barbara, especially in the 90s and early 2000s, was nothing more than a crutch and or plot device used by writers to take shortcuts which really cheapened and shortchanged stories. For instance there was a good decade when Batman, Nightwing and Robin weren’t detectives. Rather than finding information they just place a call to Babs and away they went. I can go on and on but out of respect for the posters here I won’t. Needless to say I wasn’t happy whenever she popped up in books other than hers

In the real world I am a firm believer in donating massive amount of time and money to curing the mentally and physically disabled. I can’t imagine what life must be like being immobile every moment of your existence and conscious of your immobility. Talk about a never-ending novel.

But Babs, no matter how well written, isn’t real. She doesn’t suffer the way a person suffers as she’s a fictional construct. Getting paralyzed was the best thing that happened to the character, a parlization that happened because they had NOTHING for the character and decided to have Alan Moore unceremoniously shuffle the character offstage. Thankfully John Ostrander reinvented the character using her paralysis as the crux in reconstructing her new persona, a persona that still going strong twenty years later.

I think the simplest solution is simply to not read the comics that you don't like.

Okay, ignoring the sheer stupidity of killing off a character because some dude on the Internet doesn't like them, I'd do it like this: Fragmets of the bullet the Joker paralysed Barbara with move. They shift into her bloodstream and perforate her heart. She dies of internal bleeding.

I saw something like that on CSI: Miami. It was a good episode.

Barbara shouldn't die and never will.

So, deal with it.

Are you serious joe27?

Did you post that because you want to cause an argument, or do you really feel that way? The mention of the Stephanie Brown Memorial thing was like you were adding fuel to the fire.

Either way, Barbra won't die just because you want her to, she has many loyal fans. Plus she is one of the only paraplegic heroes in the DCU. She is admired and looked up to by many handicapped readers. DC would loose that many more fans.

If you hate a character like Oracle that's a big problem as she's liable to pop up in any DC comic. Less these days then in the 90s but she has the potential of being everywhere.

What's interesting about her handicap is that it's a true handicap. Matt Murdock may be blind but he got superpowers to compensate for it. In Oracle's case she mirrors the real world because any paraplegic can become a cyber detective. I think that's kind of cool even though as I said I hate it when the character pops out of her book.

I can maybe see disliking Barbara, but "hate"? How?

So much troll feeding going on here...

And do I have to point out the general creepiness of helping some dude fill out his fantasies of killing a female character off? One who is very intelligent and isn't cheesecake material in any way? A smart woman who isn't sold as a sex object in any way and he wants her dead. Do we really need Freud to figure out the reasons behind this?

I tend to agree. I think we've indulged this quite enough.
